St. Petersburg bicyclist struck by hit-and-run driver
A man riding a bicycle was seriously injured after being struck by a hit-and-run driver Monday night.
It happened on the 4700 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street S about 9:15 p.m.
The bicyclist was going east on the road when he was struck by a black sport utility vehicle that was headed south, said St. Petersburg police Sgt. David DeLong.
The victim suffered a head injury and was taken to Bayfront Medical Center. His condition at the hospital was not immediately clear.
The Florida Times-Union reported Monday that Florida was the most dangerous state for bicyclists in 2008.

If the bicyclist was going east on a north-south street obviously his chances of being hit increased 10 fold.

I drive in this area all of the time and I have almost hit many people. They cross right in front of traffic expecting cars to slam on their brakes! The driver should have stopped though.

No surprise here....When will law enforcement get the bicycles to obey the law too. Sad about the hit and run, they should have stopped, but no surprise someone got hit.
Bicycles ride the sidewalk, cross on the wrong side of the road, ride in pacts blocking the road and slowing the legal speed of traffic, and most of all .... not respecting tons of metal that drive the raod able to kill them...!!
Tougher Laws on bicycles...and get that person who hit-and-run..!

Many bicyclists are just as bad as motorcyclists when it comes to obeying traffic laws, just not as fast.
