Carter Deal Sealed

The Bucs have acquired their second defensive player during this free agency period by inking defensive end Kevin Carter to a four-year deal worth as much as $25-million.

Carter, who was released by the Dolphins last week after he and the team failed to reach an agreement on a restructured contract, made the Bucs his first free-agent stop.

The 33-year-old pass rusher has the versatility to play on the edge but can also be utilized as an interior lineman.

Linebacker Patrick Chuwurah was the Bucs' first defensive signing, joining the Bucs on Friday.

Why did the Bucs give Kevin Carter so much money? He's 33 and reaching the end of his career. Conversely, the Bucs should have paid Dewayne White, who they invested in a 2003 2nd round pick, a little more money and made him one the young anchors to their new defensive line. If they didn't like, the Bucs should have used that same pick on White to draft players such as Lance Briggs who was available in the same draft and is a stud for the Chicago Bears. I predict the Bucs will finish the season 6-10 at best.

the guy with the first comment must be one of those bandwagon buc fans. i love the signing, we did pay a bit to much but i still love the signing

I agree with the first guy. Why do the Bucs keep signing old washed-up has-beens year in and year out? They're gonna pay Carter 5.5 something million a year when they could have signed a 4 year younger still on the upswing of his career Patrick Kerney for a deal that only averages roughly a million more a year. $50 says Kerney has at least 5 more sacks than Carter this year. This free agency period is really starting to piss me off.

Jason, the second poster, is an idiot! We invested a 2nd round draft pick in a player that had as many sacks as Kevin Carter last year. More importantly, Dewayne White is faster, younger, and has tremendous upside. If we didn't like him in the draft, then why didn't the Bucs draft Lance Briggs? He was available when we picked White.

Its evident that Jon Gruden is playing for his job now. He is making no attempt at signing quality defensive players because the defense is the responsibility of Monte Kiffin who will harbor the blame, if the Bucs fail next year.

I think Jon Gruden and Bruce Allen have a time machine. That's why they keep signing players that used to be good. One day they will fire up that time machine and they'll go back 7-8 years and we'll have a young Kevin Carter, Charlie Garner, Jeff Garcia, etc. Granted the time machine won't help with jake Plummer, b/c he's always sucked. So for that, my only excuse is that Jon Gruden must be retarded.

The Bucs wont win anything until Gruden and his boyfriend Bruce are gone.
