Bucs sign seventh-round pick Hamilton | Main | Let the standoff begin »

Which Bucs rookie will have big impact?

Aside from the occasional signing of a draft pick, it's vacation time for Bucs players and coaches. The quiet before the thunderstorms of training camp at Disney's Wide World of Sports.

So let's look ahead and start a discussion. The Bucs concentrated most of their draft on defensive players, starting with first-round pick Gaines Adams.

What role the Clemson defensive end will have might depend on how Simeon Rice comes back from shoulder surgery. Right now, Adams is working exclusively at right defensive end. My guess is he'll be used some on the left side on certain passing downs.

But there are other interesting rookies such as linebacker Quincy Black and safety Sabby Piscitelli. Then there's an offensive contributor like Kenneth Darby, who looks great catching the ball out of the backfield.

So which rookie do you believe will have the biggest impact for the Bucs in 2007? Considering the bar has been set by Michael Clayton and Cadillac Williams, can one of the first-year guys reach those heights?

   Tell us what you think.

I definately feel it is going to be Sabby Piscitelli! We have been struggling at the safety position ever since Lynch and Jackson left (twice!). Philips and Allen will go to fetching water and keeping the seats warm. Sabby has the physical skills to be a star. Big enough to stop the run and fast enough to cover in the open field! Go Bucs!

Assuming everyone stays relatively healthy, it's a no-brainer that Adams should make the biggest impact this year...that's why he was a first-round draft pick. DBs like Piscitelli are intriguing, but it usually takes the those guys at least a season to work their way into a comfort level in Monte's system. D-linemen have a much easier path, as they don't have nearly as much to learn. Look for Adams to step up alongside non-rookies like Ruud and maybe Zemaitis this year.

When the offensive line gels this year it's going to because of the big man Sears!

Look out for Sabby Piscitelli,Got a great feeling about him. Hope I'm right.

I have the old fashioned belief that games are won in the trenches. We have in the last 2 years used our top 2 picks to draft 4 guys to improve our trench strength....this is the key area to watch....if we win the war in the trenches we will win more games....so gaines adams is my pick, followed closely by sears.

HARD FOR ROOKS TO MAKE THE BIG SPLASH IN THEIR FIRST YEAR ADAMS COULD HELP TAKING THE DBL TEAMS OFF THE D-LINEMEN BIGGEST IMPACT COULD BE THE TWO LINEBACKERS BLACK AND HAYWOOD ON SPECIAL TEAMS BOTH ARE SPECIMENS WITH SPEED AND SIZE WE COULD USE SOME IMPACT PLAYS

I don't really think Adams will be a big factor this year unless Rice doesn't play well, but if Rice is healthy you won't find a better pass rusher in the league. Which translate to Adams not seeing a lot of playing time on the right side. If I had to pick a rookie that going to make and impact I would say it's going to be Black. And the reason why is because with his speed he's going to be a menace on special teams. Besides he'll probably split time with Rudd at middle. I think Piscitelli will see some playing time, but not as much as Black. Espcially because the Bucs might go after Darius.

I would like Sabby Piscitelli to be the main contributor. But,for some reason it takes DB's and Safety's about 3 years to develop in our system.Ronde Barber,Brian Kelly,Will Allen,Jermaine Phillips all took about 3 years to start.Even John Lynch didnt start right away.So I am going to say Aaron Sears. He seems like he will be able to make some big holes for Cadillac.

Neither the bucs should have traded up for wide recivier calvin johnson

I hate when people make stupid comments like Stephen's. The Bucs didn't trade for CJ, get over it. Not what's being asked. That said, I think Sears has a good shot of making a big impact since LG should be wide open this year. The others may be good special teamers; it'll take a couple of years for the DBs and LBs to learn the scheme.

Hey Stephen, by saying "neither," do you think the Bucs only got two picks dimwit? Anyway, stupidity aside, I think Sears has the best chance to make an impact as it's the weakest spot.
