Bucs release Boston
David Boston's tenure with the Bucs is over - and possibly his career.
The Bucs released Boston after reaching an injury settlement with the 29-year-old receiver, just six days after police determined that test results showed high levels of GHB in his system at the time of his DUI arrest Aug. 23.
The Bucs replaced by Boston by re-signing kick returner Mark Jones.
General Manager Bruce Allen said the Bucs will not attempt to re-sign Boston the way they brought him back after releasing him at the start of the 2006 season.
'''Yeah, I think we've moved on,'' Allen said. ""And we're hoping this group stays healthy and we move forward.''
Since his arrest last month, Boston had maintained he was not under the influence when police found him slumped over the steering wheel at a Pinellas Park intersection.
Two days after his arrest, Allen said there was no 'objective evidence' to support the charges. But all that changed last week when a unrinalysis revealed Boston had high levels of GHB in his system.

Gradkowski didn't have a problem with batted balls. Everyone has judged him harshly, lets blame the O-line for him too. They also forgot Grad was a rookie last year. Simms has been in the league for a while now and I don't see any progress. He had a decent year but if you looked at that schedule, they played the easiest schedule in the league.
Caddy had a great first 4 games of his career, but went away after that. He didn't handled a full load in college so he was over used at the start and has been hurt ever since. Thats another great coaching job on that too. They had a guy like Alstott, and even Pittman, but they had to abuse Caddy.

Grad didnt have a problem with batted balls because he rolled out (ran away from the oncoming pass rush) and threw it. everyone judged him harshly because galloway consistantly blew past his man and grad couldnt get the ball to him. he cant throw past 15-20 yards. but that is a different topic. you didnt see any progress because he was always getting hit. our line held up when we went 11-5. then they digressed last year. caddy had a great 1st 4 games the year our line held up and the year simms played well. the following year is when our line stunk and caddy didnt have a good year and simms lost his spleen. the common denominator in that was the o-line.

So what you're telling me Aaron is that Simms doesn't have the ability to create a play by getting out of the pocket. So he couldn't play for most teams in the league since O-lines aren't doing too well across the board. Simms certaintly couldn't play in ATL, did you see the O-line block anyone up there? I didn't.
People said that Montana wouldn't make it because of his arm, but you know the story to that. Pennington doesn't have an arm but his play got them into the playoffs last year. Ryan Leaf, Kyle Boller, Aaron Brooks, and many more have had arms and they sucked.

read my last post and that is exactly what i am tellng you. so should i play your game now and say "how can you compare grad and montana?"
Posted by: aaron | September 14, 2007 at 10:13 AM
Montana wasn’t running for his life, neither was Vick but his career passer rating sucked at 54%. He was successful in ATL because he could run and that’s all he did well. Your pure pocket passers… ie Marino, Manning had and have good offensive lines and when they did escape the pocket there running from a pass rusher. In Simms case it’s a jailbreak. Simms may have been the system for five years but he’s played 10 games and started 8, Gradkowski had more playing time car run and how successful has he been? Again with out an O-line this debate will continue.

Yes I can compare Montana to Grad because Grad's a rookie and he still has a chance for success. I threw in Pennington to make a point that he is the type of QB I think Grad will be. To call it a jailbreak, you guys are grossly exaggerating the blocking situation. The cowboys don't have the best blockers and yet Romo is doing great. He rolls out in situations and makes plays. His passes in the pocket aren't tipped every other throw. There is no excuse for tipped passes.
You gotta wonder too about Simms if you look at the Browns situation. Frye was traded why? Because he took 5 sacks in 1 quarter. His replacement, Anderson, took 1 the rest of the game. Point is, Frye was holding the ball too long. Something Simms is doing because he doesn't see the field. The vision problem is probably true, and that would be a legit excuse.

Also, if you admit to Simms not being able to create, than why do you want him period? If you can't create as a QB, you shouldn't be in the NFL.
Posted by: DR | September 14, 2007 at 10:53 AM
create and run for your life are two different things. simms has enough athletic ability to move around, but he is not a scrambler in the mold of garcia, young and the sort. dont you think a better statement would be "if you cant throw the ball longer than 20 yds you shouldnt be in the nfl?"
Posted by: aaron | September 14, 2007 at 11:00 AM
simms couldnt see the field because he was staring julius peppers in the eyes as he lay on the ground. hard to see the field under those circumstances, dr. if you ever read up on other teams what happened in cleveland had nothing to do with frye and everything to do w/ quinn. last week quinn was whinning about the browns cutting dorsey. he said he was really dissapointed he was cut. 2 days after that was said frye was gone. it was about making the mighty quinn happy, giving him his mentor back.

and actually the cowboys have a pretty decent o-line. i love the bucs dr but i also watch what is going on elsewhere in the league. you should do the same if you are going to comment on it. and to compare grad and montana is absolutly crazy. more like gradman and joe hamilton.
Posted by: aaron | September 14, 2007 at 11:24 AM
the last time the bucs o-line played anything close to acceptable caddy rushed for over 1,000 yds and simms got us to the playoffs and if it wasnt for a dropped pass we could have went on the second round. (remember that pretty pass to edell, grad couldnt have thrown one like that). the issue isnt simms. it is the o-line and it will negativily affect our rb's and our qb's no matter who they are. my god we had garcia the most mobile qb in the NFL, when vick isnt playing, and he got tossed around like a rag doll.

Haha, you like exaggerating things beyond belief. Grad can throw the ball down field. Simms didn't run because he chased around all the time. Carr lead the league in sacks every year and had a horrible offensive line and yet he put up decent numbers. He is far better than Simms and I don't know why the Bucs even signed Simms over a QB like Carr. The reason Simms signed with the Bucs is because nobody else wanted him. The reason why Simms is faking a hip injury is because once he is cut, he will not be picked up. If you listen to the radio, even the Tampa Bay Storm coach said he wouldn't invite Simms to try out for his arena team if he was available. Nobody called about a trade for Simms, thats why he was so close to being cut. The Cowboys line has been just as bad as the Bucs the past few years and Romo has been successful. You need to watch other games in the NFL. Sure, a first round hold out is calling the shots in Cleveland, there's no coach over there. They gave up on Frye. there's no point in carrying 2 top drafted qb's on one team. They're being smart about their QB situation. They're not keeping 4 like a bunch of morons.

Even if Grad, Garcia, and Mcnown get hurt, Simms still wouldn't play. testaverde and Leftwich have a better shot to play in Tampa than Simms does. Thats why they took his poster down.

David Carr was the #1 overall pick in the “02” draft. The Bucs didn’t pick until the third round that year because if the Gruden deal and yet the great evaluator of talent he is picked Marquise Walker, now out of the league. Simms wasn’t drafted until the third round of 03, again because we lacked a 1st round pick, but with the last pick in the third, not bad. The Cowboys offensive line is a strength of that team, read any of their blogs, no comment on Cleveland

The Cowboys O-line has improved this year but was subpar before that. I have several sources on the inside of cowboys camp. Their O-line needs to improve.
The biggest problem with most these coaches in the NFL, especially Gruden, and Parcells, especially, is that you can't fit a circle wood piece into a triangle opening. You can't run a west coast offense if you don't have the right personnel. You can't run a 3-4 defense without the right personnel. You have to play at your personnel's strength, which should be a common sense thing.

dr has sources? thats funny. the source is that little voice inside your head.their line has always been good.
Posted by: aaron | September 14, 2007 at 03:34 PM
yeah, sure they've been good. I watched them first hand on the sidelines get whooped by the Bucs 16-0 a couple of years ago. And Parcells didn't kick a field goal to break the shut out either. In fact, he wanted them to beat shut out when it came down to the last minutes to teach them a lesson. You don't deserve to break a shutout if you play like crap. The only good guy they had then was Larry Allen and Parcells had him in his dog house. These guys on the Bucs couldn't play for Parcells. Well, actually, if they did, they would be better. I'll give you guys some insight after the weekend when I come back from Miami.

Aaron, your gross exaggerations are ridiculous. Their O-line was overrated in my opinion. Emmitt Smith's yards per carry took a significant drop not because of their O-line, but because of a neck injury to Moose Johnston, probably the best blocking FB ever to play the game.
Posted by: DR | September 14, 2007 at 05:12 PM
Their line was and is good dr. you are wrong. they can pass and run block. that is why their rb's look good and that is why romo looks good. your inside sources stink. you call it a gross exagaration when i say they have a good line? so you are saying they suck? that is what your sources are telling you or that is what you see when they are out there?
Posted by: aaron | September 14, 2007 at 06:40 PM
Aaron, the major reason they benched Bledsoe last year is he couldn't run for his life, as you would say. Bledsoe either took a sack or rushed a pass that ended up being intercepted. Romo did well because he can scramble. He is really not that good of a pocket passer. The rb's do well in Dallas? Usually, you can say that when they have a 1,000yd runner which they haven't had in a couple of years. Not sure which cowboys team you're watching.

Marion barber 2005: 538 yrds, 5td's. 2006: 654 yrds, 14 td's. julius jones 2004: 1084yrds, 4 td's 2005: 993 yrds, 5 td's 2006: 819yrds, 7 td's. those stats are pretty impressive considering the run a 2 back system, DR. wouldnt you say?
