Williams, Petitgout lost for the season

The Bucs have lost running back Cadillac Williams and left tackle Luke Petitgout for the season.

Williams is believed to have suffered a torn patellar tendon in his right knee when he was hit by Panthers safety Chris Harris following an 18-yard run in the first quarter.

He returned to Tampa with the team Sunday night and will fly to Birmingham early this week to undergo surgery from renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews.

Petitgout is believed to have suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee one series later. He will undergo further examination today in Tampa.

"I just put my arms around him,'' running back Michael Pittman said of Williams. "I couldn't tell him it would be all right. Obviously he's disappointed his season is over.''

Comments

This is a tough loss for the Bucs but I think their young lineman and Michael Pittman will get them thru it.

Williams we can stand to live without - Petitgout I don't think we can. The next 12 right defensive ends we play against are certainly happier knowing Donald Penn will be there to wiff against them. Want a preview of the rest of the season for the offense?

Garcia rolls right (away from the LT)
Pittman runs right (away from the LT)
Graham runs right (away from the LT)
Garcia sacked from the blind side. (off the LT)

If this doesn't feel like heartbreak, I don't know what does. There's no positives about this. Take a deep breath and regroup. Let's fight. This team is special, I expect them to win many more. Go BUCS.

And this from the mouth of Luke himself from the Trib...

In addition, Bucs left tackle Luke Petitgout he sprained his right knee and also plans to have more details tomorrow.

“I shouldn’t be out long,” Petitgout said.

The way Caddy's injury looked seemingly backs up this headline but come on, an ACL with Petigout? I think your reaching again Times. Get the doctors opinion after an MRI before you let your continuous negative headlines spew. It's getting old.

I should've collected all of your bandwagon fans' "Got Chucky?" t-shirts. I could make a fortune with the mass exodus of fans back on the bandwagon.

What do you guys think? It was probably Dungy's team that won against the Panthers today. Not Gruden's.

Hey DR, again, today proves you know absolutely NOTHING about football. You said we'd go 5-11 after last week's win. What is the excuse now? No Delhomme!

Oh wait, you also said Gruden can't get players out of college playing well. Tanard Jackson, Greg Peterson, Greg White, Aaron Sears...all rookies...all made an impact today.

DR, you suck!!! I would love for the Bucs to whoop up on your Cowboys now.

Guys, Luke was on crutches after the game and, in a seperate conversation I had with him, he seemed resigned to the fact that it was pretty serious. he didn't say much, but when I asked him if he was done, he just shrugged and gave me a defeated look. He's getting an MRI tomorrow to determine the exact nature of the damage, but these doctors are pretty good at diagnosing these things on the spot. They do it all the time. I'm willing to bet he already was told what to expect on the MRI.

he is junk cut him he has not done anything but fumble since he got here then when he was hurt in first season he hide it ,that don't help, sucks as much as Clayton another waste of time and money !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is not the end of the world, Donald Penn played great today as he did in the pre-season. While we will miss Caddy as the teams best back, Pittman is strong and fast and Graham is a nice change of pace. Pittmans hands are better than Caddy's anyway, so they can isolate Pittman on linebackers deep and Garcia will hit him. If we lose Garcia, then we are in trouble. I'm curious to just how good our defense is, we'll find out against the Colts.

I think losing Pettigout is going to be tough. He has been playing very well. Although Penn played great also today. What about Chukwurah? That guy looks like a beast! I am still worried about Adams. He got pancaked again today. Although, he looks like he's improving.

Tom, yeah, your Bucs are gonna whoop my 'Boys-hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Just like they did last year except the 'Boys are 10 times better because of the outstanding play of the 5th year QB Romo. The Bucs can't score with them and the 'Boys already proved there is no DE that can stop them.
Tom, 3-2 next week, what are you going to say then? Today's win is impressive and if you can read, what offensive draft pick has Gruden brought in? Don't credit him with Kiffen's defense you stupid clown. Remember Kiffen was here before Gruden, and he is the only thing that has kept the ship from sinking. He is the constant, the DE has always been good even when Gruden tries to throw them under the bus.
Caddy is no loss by any means, he couldn't carry the load by himself anyways.
I still stick with my prediction of 5-11, if anything, they might make it to 6-10 if they're lucky.

Here's a sobering thought people: If Penn starts next week, his first assignment is Dwight Freeney. Good luck with that.

Most these "die hard" (LMAO) bucs fans have already handed themselves a loss for this week anyways. Is there such a thing called a true bucs fan?

Tom, you must be a gators fan too. You are, don't be ashamed.

Yes actually! If the Bucs play mistake free offensively and continue to dominate on defense, I think your going to see a good game, in which the Bucs can win.

Tiki Barber in Tampa Bay, for this season anyone?

Anyone?

was Malcolm Glazer at the game today? I thought I saw a stiff wearing sunglasses in Section 104.

Boy these last few weeks have sure been fun to watch!! The defenseive takes control, and the offense is avoiding the big mistakes. In my opinion why Tampa is this much improved is the offense sustains drives, which is keeping the defense fresh for 4 qtrs. 5-11 prediction? With whatever knowledge you think you have, a statement like that discredits that. Have you seen the rest fo the NFC? Dallas is an exciting team, but they wont sustain it. In due time, T.O. will run his mouth, the team will slip up and loose some games they should win. As impressive as their offense is, the Dallas defense is beatable!

night to all! GO BUCS!!

Ahh, I can hear Dwight Freeney's smile cracking all the way from here. Oh my goodness Mr Penn is in for a welcome next week.

All you pro Gruden people need to slow down. There isn't any bandwagon to jump on yet. The Saints and Rams were not playing well at all, and the Panthers were without their starting quarterback and middle linebacker. These were games that were against teams the will be 16 and out. Gruden doesn't know how to step on the opponent's throat. How about that goal line stand by the Panthers? That was a failure on Gruden's part, not any significant effort by the Panthers. It was unimaginative play calling. This isn't the first time that I have watched Gruden's play calling and said "what the !@5%# was that?" The Bucs went conservative with a 14 point lead and should have scored at least another 20 points, and if any of you people thumbing your noses with the "I told you so", think that is going to work against any real competition, like the Colts, Cowboys, you have a big surprise coming. Gruden gave us a skinny blocking tight end (Clayton), and a glass running back who couldn't catch a football in a zero gravity chamber. He doesn't know players, and he doesn’t understand strategy. There are always teams that start fast out of the gate, but you geniuses need to realize that it's how strong you finish. Talk to after we play a playoff caliber football team.

Wow, I don't think I could catch a ball in a zero-G chamber, either...that sounds hard! Good thing the Bucs don't have to compete for some kind of crazy interstellar championship. I'll settle for another, lowly 'world' championship, but maybe that's just me.

Actually, it would be easy to catch a ball in a zero gravity chamber since it would be floating and never touch the ground.
Its funny, your banking on a TO meltdown for the Cowboys to lose. He won't melt down, why? This is the best QB he has played for. Romo plays ball and doesn't cry like a McNabb and has got a great arm, not like a Garcia.
Like the other guy said, this is the Bucs first legit win all year and against another injured team.
Did you see what the Cowboys DE did to the Rams? They one upped the Bucs and gave up zero points. Only a great punt return was their score. They got Ellis and Newman back and will have the Tank for the 2nd ha;lf of the season. Oh, and another thing, their players are rallying behind their coach. Its theirs to lose.

they may need to make a trade for someone like reuben droughns to help graham and pittman with the load. they can be good on spot duty, but i dont think they can get it done for the whole year. droughns has a good motor and is a big back who can also catch the ball out of the back field. or maybe somebody like dr's, julius jones. i am sure the boys would be willing to part with him considering they also have barber.

Cowboys won't give up Jones. Their 2 back system is working too well. The Bucs should have used a 2 back system all year as well.

Jon Romano 5 words should have been:

Where are the Gruden Haters?

Come on everyone say it with me: TIKI, TIKI, TIKI...

"Williams is believed to have suffered a torn patellar tendon"

So you BELIEVE he tore his patellar tendon, but you feel it's ok to report that he's out for the season without MRI results? What crappy reporting...

DR, you're a loser. You keep on making excuses and can't admit that you have a secret crush on Gruden. Just admit man and feel liberated! Yeah, we beat the Rams and Saints who were struggling, and a Carolina team without Delhomme. However, we did what great teams do, we DESTROYED them!!

Besides, how come when we beat the Panthers without their starting QB, it's not a real win? But when we play with rookie QB and have half our team on IR last year, it's Gruden's fault?

It's ok to come out now bandwagon fans. We're winning again so you can put on your "Got Chucky?" shirts. Where are you fools who wanted to fire Gruden after the first loss in Seattle? OOOOHHHHHH, it was Dungy's team that won yesterday not Gruden's.

Hey NO, when you tear a patellar tendon or an achilles tendon tear, it's pretty obvious on the field unlike an ACL tear which requires MRI. Unless you have an obvious "anterior drawer sign" for an ACL tear.

The Cowboys struggled in the first half against the pitiful Rams. The Cowboys couldn't score a point off the Bucs Defense.

Tom, you're an a** clown. The Bears defense is better than the Bucs and yet were scored on. The Cowboys would put up another 40 on this Bucs defense, like they did last year. I guess it is a struggle when you put up 14 points in the first half. Thanks for the high expectations. Seahawks score 20 on you, we will score 50. And our defense is only getting better.
17-7 isn't exactly a destroying them type game. 35-7 is destroying them, 34-10 is also. You gotta put up at least 30 points before you destroy somebody.
yesterday's win was impressive. I said that. Garcia is playing like he did last year. It sucks to watch any player get injured like Caddy did. The ironic part is his patellar tendon did what he is considered, it busted.
It is Gruden's fault when he has no offensive talent that he drafted. You have yet to name one. Here is my offer again, name an offensive player Gruden drafted that is a stud? Don't take credit away from Kiffen you fool. What free agents will the Bucs pick up next year? Don't say Fitzgerald, he's coming to the big D to be a winner.

I like Ronde Barber, but he couldn't guard T.O.'s left toe. Kelly shouldn't even be on the same field as T.O.

C/ATT YDS TD INT
Romo 22/29 306 5 0

Tom, does this line by Romo look familiar?

Hey DR, your Cowboys have beatin' four teams with a combined record of 3-13, who also average a defensive rank of 26th. You act like your team has proved something against four contenders when your talking about the Bucs. Beat some real contenders before you crown yourself and please quit talking about last years Bucs/Cowboys game. We stunk last year with a 6th round rookie QB much like you guys did on a certain very memorable field goal attempt in January. Oh and btw, you guys were a very dominating 9-7 last year, a whole five more wins than our crappy team. Much like us, you guys need to beat some teams who aren't 16 and out this season. Btw, as hard as it is to say, your making it easy on this Philly hater to cheer for them in a certain two games this year. So please stop.

Gruden's drafted offensive young studs...Davin Joseph, Jeremy Trueblood, Aaron Sears, Dan, Buening, Cadillac Williams and Alex Smith.

Cowboy fans, like the Gators, always overestimate their own team's abilities. Romo, like the Gators QB, is reckless and can be beaten by a disciplined defense. They remind me of the "greatest show on turf", which the bucs have shut down in the past.

Also, since the SB victory in 1995, how many playoff games has the Dallas Cowboys won? How many games period in that span has the Dallas Cowboys won?

Well, that would be 1 playoff game in 1996 and a total of 83 regular season victory's. In comparison, the Bucs have won 93 regular season games and a total of 5 playoff games including a Super Bowl title since 1996.

Point is, without Jimmy Johnson's Hall of Famers, your team has played very under par. So to sit here and talk like your team has become champs again in September is not only rediculas but very annoying. Beat some contenders, earn that highest NFC power ranking, and stop pretending.

Thanks James H. All of those guys are too young to say that they will be great players. However, Gruden's era drafted Clayton (runner up to rookie of the year) and Williams (rookie of the year).

DR, is an idiot. He doesn't realize that the coaches don't make the final decisions when it comes to drafting. They have a big say in who gets drafted, but so does the direcor of college scouting and most importantly, the GM.

Look at the careers that Gruden and his staff has resurrected. Brian Griese, Rich Gannon, Jeff Garcia, Charlie Garner, Ty Detmer, Irving Fryar, Ricky Waters, Joey Galloway.

Joey Galloway sucked in Dallas and is a stud now. What happened to Keyshawn in Dallas, DR, you moron?

Hahahahaha, Alex Smith, Caddy, etc. studs in the NFL!? hahahahaha Are you sure you didn't mean scrubs? You must have.
We were only 5 games ahead of you in the standings? Umm, this is football, thats a huge difference, like between getting the 4th pick and 22nd pick you moron. Romo didn't lose the game in the playoffs last year, Roy Williams did. So did Parcells. Good riddance. I'm glad we kept TO. Phillips knows how to deal with players like TO.
Your Bucs have beaten nobody's either. Don't lie, you picked the Bears to beat the 'Boys too.
You'll get a reality check on defense this week. No crying. Remember, Cowboys beat the champion Colts last year.

It's not that the Bucs beat a division foe with some key injuries, or that they beat a couple of teams the past few weeks that appear to be less than stellar. Those aren't why us real Bucs and Gruden fans are happy. The reason we are so excited is because we are pulverizing these teams. We are making them feel terribly bad about Gruden/Allen have done an excellent job with personnell and team management and you naysayers don't understand the benefit of planning for the future. With $15+ million cap room and the base of talent we have right now, the future looks very bright for the Bucs. Dallas is very good, there should be no argument, but with a defense like ours, any team is beatable. Let's see how we do this week and we'll know just where we stand in the NFL. I think it will be a lot closer than DR's prediction's as he is drinking the kool-aid and needs to stay on his own Cowboy blogger. What's the record of the teams the Cowboys have played DR?

Gentlemen, pay no attention to DR. He talks a lot of crap but he can't tell a tight end from his rear end. He thinks a 4-3 is his 43 in waist.

The Bucs are looking very impressive. I am hoping that Pettigout's injury is not serious. Good luck to Cadillac. He is a really good kid and deserves some respect. Unlike that no good loud mouth Terrell Owens.

Romo didn't fumble the snap on the game winning field goal in Seattle? Bro, your ignoring the facts to make your worthless arguement. The only game we've lost this year is against the last team to beat the Cowboys, in the same building.

The Bucs are in "rebuilding" mode and are playing spectacular so far this season and btw, Gruden never put together these loser but records...The Dallas Cowboys were 5-11 in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 6-10 in 2004, 9-7 in 2005 and 2006. IT'S ABOUT TIME they have a decent football team there. IT'S TAKEN LONG ENOUGH! They've had enough high draft picks in the last 7 seasons to work with. Once again, you act like your team has won something in September. Please stop crowning yourself, you have won nothing. There's 12 games to go, stop looking past them.

DR,

Do the world a favor and pull your bottom lip over your head and swallow.

DR, enough already. This is a Tampa paper hosting a Bucs blog. If you want to talk about the boys, that’s fine talk about the boys, just do it on there site. Nobody on this blog cares about the Cowboys; we came here to talk Buccaneers. I haven’t read the first post saying the Bucs were SB champs or contenders this year so nobody is anointing anyone for anything. Like Gruden said in the post game conference, last year is last year. Nobody cares about last year’s team or record, but these years this team is winning, the last three to be exact. It doesn’t matter who they beat or what the team’s record or combined records were, because they won. Do you think people will look back at this game and say it was a shut out till 1:35 left in the game or how they only crossed the 50 three times? No. They will just say we won and we did it with the players, like it or not, that Gruden either brought in via free agency or drafted…. So who won yesterday DR? who’s in first place in the division.

Oh by the way Tom, I thought I heard the rumor about the white power as well, and has anyone heard for our good friend Pantherfan?

Looks like Pettigout is out for the season. This is a huge loss. He hasn't given up a sack yet. Hopefully, Penn can hold up. However, if he struggles, it means that we will have to keep a TE or RB back to block. This definately alters our ability to use the whole playbook.

As long as our defense plays like it does, we can beat just about any team, including the Colts. Our defensive is awesome, even though they haven't gotten a bunch of sacks. It is very deep with quality players. What about the very first play for Chukwurah as a Buc? He almost got a sack!!

Philips is the most improved player so far this year. Tanard Jackson looks great!

Keyshawn was bad in Dallas Tom? You're an idiot. True Bucs fans will give Key the respect he deserves. He was the Key to the ignition Gruden gets credit for. He jumped out of the sinking ship when he had a chance.
James, are you 12 years old? Do you know anything about the history of the NFL? The Bucs have one of the worst franchise records in the NFl, still. The only team to NOT win a game in a season. It wasn't until Dungy got here and turned this team into a winner when the fans started to turn in their Packers shirts for Bucs shirts. Bucs record since Super Bowl, 7-9, 5-11, 11-5, 4-12 (w/ 60 yd FG). Total 27-38, thats a great record, should be proud of those Norv Turner type numbers there.
There you guys go again, saying I said things that I didn't. You're all idiots who play with dolls. The only reason Romo has been involved is because he was brought up in the Dallas organization. Why hasn't that offensive genious made any of his young players into studs like a Romo? Average players don't count. Gruden has to go to the free agent market to get good players.
Good luck to Caddy and his 3.5 avg.
Fact is, a 7-9 record will win the NFC South. Neither team has beaten anybody worth a crap but one team has a better record and has slaughtered every team they have played.
Tom, I have a 38 inch waist as a matter of fact. I bench 275lbs 10 times. Your football knowledge is equivalent to my dead grandmother's. You guys are a bunch of morons.

I wonder how difficult it would be to have the Times bad this guy. What do say DR, or will you just leave?

You guys ignore this guy, maybe he’ll just go away.

did you see the way "papa" gruden hugged barber and brooks coming off he field?

how fake can you get by gruden "showing love"

both barber and brooks looked as if they were being hugged by a rosie odonnell who had not bathed in a month.

i hate gruden.........he is such a 2-faced fake.

"Keyshawn was the key to the ignition for Gruden." WOW!!! You really are dumb!

Actually DR, I know much about NFL football and I wasn't talking directly about your team history nor mine. I was simply mentioning your rebuilding years in comparison to ours. I.E. How bad has your team been since ('97-'06) compared to the Bucs current rebuilding mode ('04-'07). During these rebuilding years your team was TERRIBLE, an NFL laughingstock. They had double digit wins in only TWO season out of 10! They went 5-11 three years in a row, then 6-10 a year later, then 9-7 the two season's after that. And after finally making it to the playoffs for only the second time in 7 years, your golden boy saviour Romo, muffed the game winning FG's snap. Point is, that it took the Cowboys 7+ seasons to become a legit contender again. And here in Tampa we are in this "rebuilding mode" as we speak, and truelly have been since 2004. BUT unlike you guys, we've won one division title in our "rebuilding" span and are currently 3-1 atop the most competitive division in the NFL since it's allignment in 2002. The facts are there buddy, keep arguing them with your blind kool-aid drinking, ESPN hype believin' self and I'll keep female dog slapping you right back down. Bring it!

Watch it James, DR will come back with most competitive division? Romo didn’t muff the game winning FG's snap. DR’s like a bad wife that just won’t go away, he’ll knit pick one sentience and miss the point of the paragraph. I’ll put money on it, you watch.

He has nothing to argue. I gave him only facts. He can keep looking like an ignorant fool, it's entertaining actually. He just keeps proving that the intelligence of Cowboy fans has either faded over the last 10 losing years or never existed.

Why was Gruden Dry-Humping Barber and Brooks when they came off the field?

Is that guy for real? He doesn't have a love-hug bone in his body.

The scene looked just as abhorrent/out of place as that photo of hillary and bill when they were dancing on the beach in swimwear.

Hey James H. I was making a point that Gruden has a history of offensive success by saying that the Eagles had the #1 in the NFC in 1996. DR said well the NFC sucked back then. Yeah, this is the same mid nineties that had his beloved Cowboys winning 3 Super Bowls. DR is an idiot and he'll say whatever it takes.

Now he's saying he can bench press 275 lbs. ten times...HAHAHAHA!! Do any of you guys believe that. Keep on telling yourself that macho man!

good lord! i just followd that photo link Dude. with all that cottage cheese on her legs, no wonder Willy had to get some strange.
LMFAO

Your wrong fake DR. I don't have to say it, listen to the Barber Shop and your own boy Ronde will tell you, the NFC South is the worst division in football the last 4 years. The only division where the last place team has won the division the very next year. He said he didn't feel comfortable going into the playoffs because the division was weak and he knew they weren't too good. You're saying that the NFC South is the most competitive, you are an ABSOLUTE joke! Thats a fact!? Look at the stats you idiot. Jesus Christ, thats the worst statement I've ever heard any true soccer fan ever say. You are definitely not a football fan.
The difference between the 'Boys rebuilding years and the Bucs is #1, there were 3 divisions with 5 teams, more competition in division play. Again, the NFC South is a joke. #2 At least they fired their coaches when they didn't progress. If you say 7-9, 5-11, 11-5, 4-12 is progression, than you're an idiot. Our worst year was 5-11, compared to a 4-12 season that had a 60 yd game winning FG kick.
If you're gonna talk smack, talk with logic. You can be happy all you want with being the best out of the worst, but it won't get you anywhere. Look at the stats, they're the facts, and you must not be looking hard enough.

Hey DR, each division has four teams.

Tom, you're trying to say I have a 43 inch waist which is fat, but if muscle makes you fat than I guess I'm fat. The Eagles didn't start winning until the late nineties. 'Boys won in 92,93, and 95. I said 96 started their downfall, and they weren't the same. Obviously when a division was as dominant as the NFC East was, it doesn't last forever and the Eagles couldn't win then. When all the teams started to fall, thats when the Eagles became better. But when you become better in a division that is mediocre at best, really, how good are you?
Winning one Super Bowl doesn't make you a great franchise. Gruden is a leach. He's taking advantage of a salary cap that punishes teams for drafting good. If you don't understand that, you have no knowledge of the MLB, NBA, or the NFL. He gets free agents from other teams because his team doesn't develop squat as far offense is concerned. His offense has been horrible the past 4 years and yet you guys are proud of that and rip Dungy for having a "bad" offense. You guys are idiots.

Tom, read the statement you idiot.

Check that, you meant back then.

The salary cap prevents big market teams to hog all the players like the Niners in the eighties and the Cowboys in the nineties. Now that you actually have to manage a team, Jerry Jones the Baffoon, started a decade worth of futility.

I used to live in Dallas. That is the worst stadium in America. They play this awful crap on the PA and it is as quiet as tennis match in there. I was there on 9/10/01 when the Bucs smothered the pitiful Cowboys. Kelly made a great stop at the 2 yard line on the overrated Emmitt Smith.

their stadium is crap, i've been there a few times. The insulation at the top is falling on the field, sometimes they said it happened during games. Insulation was everywhere duiring the offseason, it was terrible. But, as you know, they got a state of the art stadium coming.

What about hogging the draft? If the Colts draft Manning, James, Harrison, Wayne, and more and they become the best players in their positions, why should the Colts be punished for drafting great? Like the NBA, a drafted player can be resigned by their team for the most money and it only counts for a percentage of the cap so other teams really can't match it unless they really want to spend money. They also have caps for draft picks which would have helped this year. It would work in the NFL but the NFL wants parody.

The Cowboys didn't hog the free agent market. Most of their players were drafted.

What Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson did was amazing Tom and you know it. Compare Aikman, Smith, Irving, Johnston, Williams, Newton, Tunei, Stepnoski, Allen(1) to B.Johnson, T.Jones/Pittman, K.Johnson, McCardell, Joe J., and what do you see? Those impact players for the Cowboys were drafted and the Bucs were all free agents. The Bucs DE however, can compare to the Cowboys as far as drafted players. The Cowboys were hoggong talent, their won drafted talent.

One of the most encouraging things that happened yesterday was when the whole team went over to show support for their young back.

Football is a team sport and that kind of comraderie will win championships. The Bucs looked like champions yesterday.

Hey, DR, how many guys on the Cowboys would walk over to check on TO?

Actually, according to the rules, the Bucs should have been flagged for that. How many guys would come over for TO? Probably quite a few. How many players were standing around Everett when he was paralyzed? Not many. I thought it was cool on one hand for the support but also kind of corny. Its a knee injury and we all have seen much worse and those guys with the injuries didn't have nearly as much support.
