Cox to IR; more roster moves
It's official: cornerback Torrie Cox is done for the season, his knee injury prompting the Bucs today to move him to injured reserve.
The Bucs also released receiver Chad Lucas who was thought to be an option succeed Cox as kick returner. His hesitancy as a returner in Cox's absence Sunday probably didn't help his cause though.
Receiver Chas Gessner was signed to the active roster and cornerback Darrell Hunter was added to the practice squad. That leaves one open roster spot unfilled, though the team's plans are currently unclear.

You know what?? Just put the entire team on injured reserve, so we can put an end to this nightmare!! Geeeeez!!!

All the injuries are the direct result of Jon Gruden. He is the mastermind behind the rash of injuries we have sustained. It is all his fault! Tony Dungy or Bill Cowher would have a team full of healthy players.

Fire Gruden now for this dispicable coaching! How can a coach let players get hurt? He needs to be out there throwing the ball, catching the ball, not committing turnorver, fielding the punt, kicking the field goal, blocking rushers, tackling players, causing turnovers all by himself. It is all Gruden's fault!!!
Posted by: DR, John P and Trotter | October 31, 2007 at 11:57 AM
If there is anyone to blame it is the physical trainers. To say it is any one persons fault is idiocy. And one more thought, people "GET OVER DUNGY". he is gone, he couldnt get to the SB with his team, that is why he was let go. Accept that and let it go.
Posted by: AL | October 31, 2007 at 12:01 PM
i agree that the trainers should be gone.
they are the reason folks stay in shape, or not in our case. Too many injuries the last 2 years for this to be bad luck. Lack of proper conditioning, lack of proper stretching, etc.
Also, I'd fire the Special Teams Coach years ago. He's not done anything to get our ST unit doing good.
And get rid of Muir, too many years for a line "genius" and we are still wallowing in mediocrity, if even that high.
Posted by: Joe | October 31, 2007 at 12:06 PM
AL, you're wrong! Gruden should fired now for letting players get hurt. He is the one putting our players in harm's way!! Get used to Grudumb being gone! I burned my "Got Chucky?" shirt today and going to jump to the Saints bandwagon since they won 3 in a row. If the Bucs start winning again, I'll buy a new "Got Chucky?" shirt and root for the home team. Until, fire Gruden!!!

Someone please tell me how you prevent an ACL tear! Or a meniscus tear! Or a Patella tendon tear!
I am in the medical field and work with athletes. If any of you know the latest technology in preventing ligament injuries to the knee, please tell me. Tell me how you could strengthen the Anterior Cruciate Ligament. IT'S INSIDE YOUR KNEE!!!!!
Posted by: Tom | October 31, 2007 at 12:16 PM
It is just silly to compare coaching and injuries in the same sentence. A good coach can overcome injuries to some extent, and that is what makes them a good coach. Gruden can prove to everyone that he is a good coach which I know he is. I hang with a lot of players, and they all support his cause.
Posted by: Chris | October 31, 2007 at 12:20 PM
Tom, the answer to your question is....with pre-game conditioning THATS HOW!! these guys need to quit partying all the time...and get their sorry buts to the gym. If a man is in top physical shape he doesn't get hurt he does the hurting!! they need to just MAN UP!!
Posted by: Fedup | October 31, 2007 at 12:39 PM
Maybe fate is dealing Gruden the same hand that was delt to Dungy!!
Posted by: Danny | October 31, 2007 at 12:43 PM
Injuries don't kill a team that has talent. The Bucs clearly don't have talent starting and their back-ups are even worse. They're not the first team to have these type of injuries, they just have no talent, it's that simple. You have to question who is bringing in these scrubs. Why are the Bucs talentless with so much money to spare? Do the good free agents not want to come to Tampa? Have the unprofessional, disrespectful manners of this organization prevented them from signing top free agents? I think so. This team has shown no loyalty to their best athletes. The players they have drafted have regressed from day one. You have a coach and GM that don't have a clue about talent and have no clue how to develop players who do have talent. If you guys love a loser so much, why weren't you there back in the 90's? You weren't buying tickets to the games then, why are you buying tickets now? They should have built the Bucs stadium to look like a wagon, because 99% of the so called fans that fill are on the bandwagon.

My god you people are something else. Players get hurt because they play. Unlike some of you pansies who probably have never played the game in your entire life. Geez.....
Posted by: Andy | October 31, 2007 at 01:04 PM
I know Andy, let's fire the trainer because he should have prevented Caddy from landing awkwardly. It was the trainers fault that the team brought in an injury prone LT who is overrated. There is never an injury on a kick return either. You guys must have played soccer, there is no way you played football with these comments.
Posted by: DR | October 31, 2007 at 01:31 PM
Fedup, so you know of a way to prevent an ACL tear by pregame warmups? OMG, I am laughing so hard right now. Out of all absurd things I have ever heard, and I've heard a lot of them on these blogs, that one takes the cake. Do you even know what the ACL is?
I am calling Todd Toriscelli today and tell him the players need to jazzercise before games!! LOL!! Fedup, you made my day!
Posted by: Tom | October 31, 2007 at 01:42 PM
Hey Tom, I suspect you have a "got chucky" t-shirt that you are emabarrased to wear? Put it on Son, noone really cares what you wear. Not sure how John P and myself got lumped in with a Cowboy bandwagoner. DR makes some good points on the Leadership of the team, even though he jumped over to the Cowboys now that they are winning again. Tone down your man-love for the Guru. I will say again, if he makes it to the playoff's he should be considered for COY, but long term outlook for the team with him as the "Head Coach" just may not work out here in Tampa. I think he just lacks leadership, and may not have the ability to make changes necessary for long term success.

I agree with you Trotter, that he is definately not the greatest player's coach. But the constant lynching of Gruden is not justified. If we lay an egg in the second half of the season, I will be there calling for his head, too. But I think we're going to alright.
Fedup, you need to publish your findings in the New England Jounal of Medicine. You could save millions of dollars in health care with your amazing realization that jazzercise prior to a game can prevent traumatic injuries!
Posted by: Tom | October 31, 2007 at 01:51 PM
Tom,
glad I could make your day! The truth hurts...Iknow! Hey maybe jazzercise is fitting for these guys, they keep getting hurt out there like a bunch of cissies!! Keep on laughing ...I WOULD say laugh all the way to the superbowl...but that wouldn't apply here!!

Reading everyone's takes on these matters gets me through the day. It's quite the adventure in here. I don't know who is to blame for all these injuries (I don't think it's the trainer however) but I know I'm a little tired of writing about injuries. My goodness. Maybe we should change this to the movies blog or something that will be a change of pace. Yeah, moveis, that's it. I watched Smokin' Aces on satellite last night. Not bad, though it was kind of one of those movies where everyone gets killed and you sorta wonder 'What's the point?' Anyone else seen anything interesting lately?
Just kidding. Carry on.
Posted by: Stephen_Holder | October 31, 2007 at 02:12 PM
TFS, is that you posing as Trotter?
COY if he makes the playoffs? HAHA He has no chance in that.
Posted by: DR | October 31, 2007 at 02:42 PM
TFS is the one who exposed you as a bandwagoner on here a few weeks ago, right?. That was some funny shiza. Yes, the litte guy should be considered if he gets this team turned around with the injuries that have occured recently, and I really would not be surprised if he is able to do that.
Posted by: Trotter | October 31, 2007 at 02:53 PM
So, what kind of bad luck do the Bucs have? Marcus Stroud gets hit with a four-game suspension AFTER they face the Jags.
That said, I would've liked to see the Bucs sign Grady Jackson. But, the Jags needed someone to replace Stroud's dumb-***, so, they already got the guy.
I hope the people that really want Gruden fired because of injuries are not serious. Clearly, if they are, they should never be allowed to post on this forum again.
Yes, good teams overcome talent. Well, the Bucs now have 12 guys on the IR and they are 4-4 with a chance to win the division. So, I guess that would make the Bucs a good team ... and Gruden a pretty darn good coach.
As for the Dungy people. Tony would never have take the Bucs to the Super Bowl. Never. And for those that said Gruden won with Dungy's team -- I'm pretty sure it was the Peyton Manning led offense, not Dungy's defense that got it done in Indy last year.

I have an idea for a movie
DR in Saw 5, DR's Romo doll has a chain around his neck, and while DR hugging his Romo doll, chucky is coming towards him with a blade. DR is never heard from again, but is seen from time to time wearing a "got chucky" t shirt.
Posted by: Trotter | October 31, 2007 at 03:16 PM
Pete, you're my friend. You make sense. It's crazy that someone could actually blame a trainer or a coach for a player getting hurt! People are so gullible that I'm going to start a new religion. And I'm making DR, my cardinal and John P, my bishop.
Of course Fedup is going to be chief of medicine with his new revelation that pregame warmups are the key to preventing traumatic, season ending injuries (I'm not talking hamstring pulls or dehydration or cramps).
I guess Trent Green should have watched Richard Simmons before he had his concussion! LOL!!
Posted by: Tom | October 31, 2007 at 04:12 PM
Hey Stephen Holder,
I know you're biting your lip and being very diplomatic, but don't you want to give us your true opinions?
1.) Should we count the days for Gruden to be fired?
2.) If we win the division and make the playoffs, regardless of outcome, should he be fired?
3.) Should we play a 3-4 alignment?
4.) What is the biggest difference in our 4 losses and 4 wins?
5.) What is the maximum velocity of an unladen Sparrow?

Hey DR, speaking of classless organizations...I thought Jerry Jones was too classy to have negotiations during the season to sign Homo because he didn't want to distract the team (you said that word for word just days ago.) What happened to all that class? You should have known how much class he had when he fired Landry and Schramm years ago and then the best Cowboys coach ever, Jimmy Johnson! Your insight is zero. And to add insult to injury, actually DR, the trainer is the guy that is supposed to have these athletes limber and properly stretched so that when they do land awkwardly, their ligaments and tendons don't snap. As for the ACL, there's nothing anyone can do about that, but tendons and ligaments can be stretched. Also, sterroids often cause the muscle to grow faster than the tendons and ligaments can stretch in unison and hence you have injuries associated (ie just look at Dan Morgan at any point in his career.) Just wanted to make sure you realized that you can't ome onto our Bucs blog with your stupid comments anymore because I will b@@tchslap you down everytime:) Go hang out with you Cowgirls fans and bring me my pizza already!
Posted by: Skylar | October 31, 2007 at 04:39 PM
I've been a Bucs fan since 1976 and there are no truer core fans in the league. We kept the team through 20 years of crap; tell me another city that could pull that off. Not even Cleveland could and they invented the game. I believe there was a city in the putrid state of Texas, call Houston, that's about 4 times the size of Tampa that couldn't keep the Oilers. Remember that? Well we kept our team because we came to games and bought merchandise (always 2nd or 3rd in the league in sales!) Hey DR, if it wasn't for the Tennessee Volunteers, Texas would just be part of Mexico anyway, so go suck on some bluebonnets with your gringo brethren and leave us real fans alone! You've probably never even been to Dallas anyway have you? And for being a classless organization, see Skylar's remarks. I guess you don't realize that everyone else in the world thinks Jerry Jones has no class. Like when he signed Barry "No Class" Switzer. I mean c'mon, he ran one of the dirtiest college programs ever known to man. You're really ignorant, you know that?
Posted by: Kurt | October 31, 2007 at 04:51 PM
Tom. Concerning your questions to Holder, I'm perplexed: Why would you fire a coach if he won your division 3 of the 5 years he had been here? Not to mention a SB...
Posted by: Skylar | October 31, 2007 at 04:57 PM
Skylar, I wouldn't want Gruden fired. That would be ignorant. Why would you rebuild a team after winning the division after a 4-12 season and then fire him and start over again? That makes no sense to me.
It's just that there are fans on this blog that are bent on firing Gruden no matter what happens. Those are the same people who rushed to the store to buy chucky dolls and "Got Chucky?" shirts. I always make fun of that because of the bandwagon nature of Bucs fans. If they win, you can't find a ticket. If they lose, you can sit in the west club for $20. I bet you USF tickets are going to be real easy to get now.
That would never happen in a place like Green Bay, Washington, Chicago, Buffalo or Denver. Those are true fans!
Posted by: Tom | October 31, 2007 at 05:24 PM
skylar, If there was a time to sign a contract extension during the season it would be during a bye week. Jones already said that he intended to extend Romo's contract and wanted to be sure the money was right. That is classy. Every player the Cowboys released haven't failed a physical like in Tampa. Keyshawn was released respectfully. In Tampa? He was treated like piece of garbage even though he helped win a super bowl. He was perhaps the biggest piece on offense. A possession receiver which doesn't have right now and its killing them.
I agree that Jones was a piece of crap when he came to Dallas. He fired a legend and then made up for it hiring another legend and screwing JJ the same way. He has learned from his mistakes though. Who hired Wade Phillips who is a good fit for the 'Boys? Bill Parcells. Parcells was on every interview. Thats first class respect.
Posted by: DR | November 01, 2007 at 01:30 PM
Kurt, you're amazing! Where did you learn that trick. I flush you down the toilet and then bam, you blog. Truly amazing.
I've never been to Dallas? Haha. I've seen their war room, looked through their scouting reports, visited their training facilities, walked through their stadium and had a catch under God's watch. I've been on numerous Dallas sidelines. Unfortunately, I was on the sidelines when the Bucs kicked their butt 16-0, but had respect for the embarrassing loss when I heard Parcells say "F them" when an opportunity came up to kick a FG late in the game. Gruden could have learned from a HOF coach what losing with class is. But Gruden's classless.
Tampa fans are the truest fans? I'll laugh for days from that comment! The only reason they made it through the bad times is because true fans from Green Bay, Chicago, Detroit and other teams would sell Houlihan Stadium out. They didn't have true sell outs until after they made the playoffs. After. Tampa has the worst bandwaggoners in any sport.
