Galloway looking for another milestone

This is an interesting stat I wasn't aware of: I'm told Joey Galloway has at least one touchdown reception in his past six games against the Saints. On Sunday, he can become just the third player since 1970 to record touchdown receptions in at least seven consecutive games against a single opponent.

That's a pretty impressive feat. Of course, the quarterback play on Sunday will have a lot to say about whether Galloway can pull this off. This would be yet more history for Galloway, who last month surpassed 10,000 career receiving yards.

If you're interested, the only two players to accomplish this are former Cardinals receiver Mel Gray (1974-78) and former Bengals receiver Isaac Curtis (1973-76).

Really?!?!? Joey Galloway has surpassed 10,000 receiving TOUCHDOWNS!?!?! That's amazing. Exactly why did the Bucs finish 4-12 last year with the Messiah as their #1 receiver?

Jason

Obviously a typo, but Galloway is amazing all the same.
I hope he get two TD's just for good measure.
Go Bucs!!

Stephen_Holder

Ken... Meant to say yards. I fixed it. Dang, tough crowd! :)

Tom

Hey Stephen. Skylar is making an argument that Gradkowski is as good as Vince Young because he's from the same area of PA as Marino and Montana. As if anyone who comes from there is destined for Canton!! What do you think? Should Gradkowski give Canton his jacket size? LOL! Hey Skylar, B@@tchslap!! I am laughing so hard right now. You make ti too easy for me dude!

DR

Man, both Tom and Skylar are stupid. Both arguments are absurd! Who cares where a guy grew up and who gives a crap where a guy played college. Ty Detmer won a heisman and so have many other QBs that sucked in the NFL. Great, Young went to Texas, but so did Simms and he sucks. Major Applewhite should have started for Texas, not Simms. Arguing over whether Grad or McCown should start is like arguing over the presidential election. It doesn't matter either way, it's pretty much a lose-lose situation. I hope nobody is expecting either QB to win the game because that is unfair. It's picking the right guy to manage the game and make the fewest amount of mistakes possible.

DR

Galloway's feat is attributed to longevity. If he was a great WR, he should be in the 14,000 yard range. Galloway is perhaps the most overrated WR to ever play the game. H e has only eclipsed 75 catches one time and reached 1,100 yards one time. That's not impressive to me.

DR

By the way, HOW 'BOUT THEM COWBOYS!?!

DR

Daniel, last night was an example of why the QB rating isn't the best measuring stick for QBs. Romo played outstanding and his only interception wasn't even close to being his fault and his QB rating went down because of it.
I'm still waiting for TO's implosion guys.

William

There is no type-o! You guys stop drinking kool-aid. Go Bucs!!!!

Tom

DR, you are very right about arguing who is the better backup. Like most every team in the NFL, losing your starting QB is a disaster. Just as if Romo were to be hurt, the Cowboys would be done.

Congratulations on your big win last night. Romo is proving to be one of the top elite QB's in the league. His ability to move within the pocket reminds me of Brady. His delivery and quick release reminds me of Marino. I think that the Cowboys are the only team in the NFC that has any chance against the Pats. They use a good mix of blitzes and are physical on the outside. The same recipe the Eagles used last week. You can't play a zone Cover 2 against Brady. I hate the Cowboys, but I hate the Pats even more.

DR

Thanks Tom. You're absolutely right about how to play the Pats. I was disappointed the 'Boys didn't play tough on them last time. What I would do is put Williams on the line to harrass Moss every time he comes out and drop him back into a zone coverage for short passes. I say double Welker. he killed the Eagles. That along with a good pass rush, knock down Brady, and it could be victory. Eagles did a great job with that. The Pats game plan was horrible that game. You have to establish the run or even try to.
Its tought to watch the games man. Every time Romo gets hit or sacked it makes me cringe. He doesn't get back up and he is hurt, the season is over. The 'Boys made a mistake not having a similar back up to Romo. I'd rather have Grad than Brad. Johnson is a statue in the backfield.
Damn Aaron Rogers looked pretty good last night. I was impressed.

Joe C.

"Impressive feat"? Nah, statistical oddity. You slice the numbers enough different ways, and eventually you'll carve out a piece with a vague resemblance to Jesus carrying a tuba.

How can I be so sure? Mel Gray and Isaac Curtis? Good players, had some Pro Bowl years, but not exactly all-time greats.

Gandycat

DR I think you might be selling Galloway short. Many variables factor into a receiver's success. Galloway played on some dismal offensive teams with the Cowboys. And, let's face it, things haven't been great with the Bucs either. Joey has an excellent skill set as a receiver. He runs good routes, adjusts to the ball well, has good hands, and great speed.

As far as him being overrated my question is by who? He gets almost no national press, except when someone mentions that he still has good speed despite his age. For a player to be overrated, someone actually has to hype them.

I think a good example of a receiver's dependancy on the team is Moss. Everyone faults his attitude last year, which was bad. But that really had nothing to do with his lack of success. The Raiders had a pitiful line and poor QB play. In NE, the line blocks long enough for Moss to get deep. Not to mention, Brady can read defenses and deliver the ball.

Skylar

Tom, you are just flaming mad because I made you look stupid on multiple occasions. You know you are blatently lying about what was said concerning this whole Gradkowski thing. I mean people logged in just to note how incredibly bad you got b@@tcslapped by me, doesn't that tell you something? You offer zero insight and have actually begun regressing since your "equipment manager makes the gameday uniform decisions" elementary school statement. Stop lying and crying and be a man about it. In fact I'll be the man here and say I apologize for blistering your face and brusing your ego.

BTW, why don't you find some original material instead of regurgitating the same lines that were once used against you by me. I mean, saying something like "d@@kslapped" or "teabagged" would be original and funny, but you can't be that guy can you? By using my lines on me, it's kind of like saying, "I know you are, but what am I."

And lastly, I don't think calling upon your nemesis, DR, is really going to help you out. Did you really think he would be your biggest fan after calling him all those names over the past season? If you had something of value to say, people might agree with you once in awhile, but instead, you're incessantly ignored because you back nothing up with facts or insight or, God forbid, both.

I'm just saying...

Good routes -check
Good hands -check
Great Speed -check
Blocking(worst in the NFL @WR) -check
Adjusts to the ball well - LOL! Did u not watch him cost us two big plays in the game just last week?

Skylar

I agree Roland 100%. And to be honest, he has the knack to drop a couple too. He definitely missed the TD pass last week by turning towards the coverage and not away from it. That was a perfect 40-50 yard pass put in the only spot where he alone could catch it and he turned the wrong way. That may have been just because they don't practice together; but if so, what does that tell us? Does Garcia not know to throw it away from the rolling coverage? However, he does get open enough to be a #1 on over 75% of the teams in the league. That's just my opinion.

Gandycat

Roland, you can't judge a receiver based on one or two plays. Galloway has pulled in some balls when two defenders had good position on him this year. Every receiver has had a play or two where they turn the wrong way. By your logic TO and Moss must not adjust to the ball well because I've also seen them get outmanuevered.

I've seen TO cost his team by getting alligator arms and the dropsies. I've seen Randy Moss get absolutely abused by Peanut Tillman. It doesn't take away their overall effectiveness. I stand by my position that Galloway adjusts to the ball well while it's in the air.

DR

Galloway has always been a #2 WR. His stats prove it. A #1 WR should have the capability of catching at least 75 balls and he's only accomplished that once. It's important for a young QB to have a go to guy and Grad and Simms didn't have that. You guys will argue this, but another great weapon for a young QB is having a reliable TE which the Bucs do not have. You look at the best QBs to ever play and most had great TEs. A great TE is a guy who gets into the open spot in the middle of the field, even the slightest of openings and catches the ball. Most Super Bowl teams had top tier TEs.
The Bucs must be big players for WRs in the upcoming offseason if they really want this ship to stay afloat.
I am impressed with the Bucs defense besides the weak defensive line. The DBs have been playing outstanding with the weak rush. I think most sacks can be attributed to coverage. You look at the games they have lost, and the offense put the defense in bad situations with turnovers. Last week, the offense did crap but did not turn the ball over and the defense won the game again.

DR

Gandycat, Gallowaty hasn't been overrated as of late but I can tell you his years in Seattle, he was well over hyped and my 'Boys bit on it to my disbelief. His hands are slightly above average. Speed doesn't make you the best at your position and he is far from being the best. Again, the Bucs better be big players in the WR free agent market next year no matter what cost. Fitz will be there, although, I hope my 'Boys get him. They have money as well.

Tom

Skylar, you are a complete moron. What in the world are you talking about? Are you saying Gradkowksi threw a perfect 40-50 yard pass to Galloway? Did you not read what Hackett said about your lover, Gradkowski? Galloway had 3-4 steps on both defensemen. The only coverage on Galloway was looking at the numbers on his back.

He was benched for McCown this week for pete's sake. You're the only moron that thinks that Gradkowski played well last week. And now you're questioning Garcia's ability compared to Gradkowski????? What????

Wait a minute... According to you, Gradkowski qualifies as a HOF QB because he's from the same part of PA as Marino and Montana!! LOL!! Dude, you're a sandwich short of a picnic.
