Alstott retirement announcement coming
Fullback Mike Alstott, perhaps the most popular Buccaneer and certainly one of the franchise's most accomplished players, is expected to announce his retirement by week's end.
Alstott, 34, spent 2007 on injured reserve with a neck injury and made it clear at the season's conclusion he had no intention of undergoing more surgery to correct the problem and prolong his career.
He hinted at his last public appearance that an announcement on his future was forthcoming.
Alstott was a 1996 second-round pick of the Bucs, for whom he played his entire career and was a six-time Pro Bowl selection.
The team is expected to hold a press conference, likely on Thursday, to make the announcement.

Pro Bowler six consecutive times. That is hard to do. Name another RB or FB to do the same since Emmitt Smith.
Hall of Famer?
No.

I believe it speaks volumes that he has decided not to do it on 620 where he had a show for years.

Why are we still talking about this? He has been retired all year, PLEASE not another crying interview. I don't think I can take anymore. This guy crys at the drop of a hat. Plus next year don't let him back on field or run out last. He already has done that. First preseason game this year if you don't remember. ENOUGH ALREADY Mike, its not about you anymore.

You are right TIM.. It is about Duemig and Mike. didnt you hear Duemig today tell everyone how Mikey picked up the tab at hooters for Lunch. Or how Mike hated to run in that 2 point conversion in the Washington game. Or how Gruden ruined his career.. Yes it will be Mikey and Duemig running out of the tunnel hand in hand.. Should be a Broke Back moment

Mike was one of the best in the league in his position i don't think i could name another fullback that had as much nfl talent as mike. He will be deeply missed in tampa bay. GOOD LUCK MIKE!
HALL OF FAME

ben. Alstott will always be a HOF in my book and in about 95% of tampa's as well. might be a tampa rd named after him in the future same with derrick

Dueming is a dousch..how could Mike hate running in the two point conversion that won the game. I still miss Mike on the goal line. Nobody could get it in better then him. And watching him drag players down the field as he was running. Great stuff. Enjoy retirement Mike you will be missed!!!

Mike WAS a great player during his TIME. Prob a HOF player. But TIME to let it go. Why can other guys do it Quarles, Sapp, & many other thru-out League. Plus if I have to hear or see him running around field after game with with his wife/kids I just might puke. The first 50 times wasn't enough? Why is he the only guy whose wife is on the field after game, in a game he DIDNT even play in. Wait in the parking lot like everyone elses wife. The guy did alot for organization but his act is getting tired.

Alstott was a great Bucs player but has no shot to make the NFL HOF. Anybody who thinks so is way to biased as a Bucs fan. Don't compare him to Brooks because Brooks has done far more than Alstott. Alstott was part of a mediocre offense every year and the RBs he blocked for had mediocre success as well. He ran hard, no doubt, but he didn't block like Neal, Johnston, Richardson, Gash, or anybody else in the league. He was an average blocker at best.

He might not be HOF material, but that doesn't lessen the impact he had or his popularity.
Brokeback, crying? Wow, some bitter people.

i believe he is a HOFer. what other fullback has as many career rushing yards? recieving yards? six time pro-bowler, 4 time all-pro. Super bowl ring. 2nd all-time Bucs rusher, 3rd on Bucs alltime scoring list, 1st on bucs alltime touchdowns list, 1st on rushing Td's and 3rd on bucs alltime receptions list.
the problem with many people's argument that he should NOT be in the HOF is that they are looking at him as a Tail back. he is not and was never a tailback. he is a FULLBACK. and no other fullback, ever, has done what he has done. i believe he will be in Canton.

hey dr. who said he was good at blocking he is ok but you can't judge a fullback just on blocking there are many other things as well

Ben, you are a classless di*!, his family can't support him? Leave the wife and kids out of it. Mike has done more on and off the field than any other buc in history. The proof is in the numbers, period. His community involvment is second to none, look at what he is doing right now with auctioning off his car for the foundation. Thanks #40 for the memories.
