Jerramy Stevens expose'
We already knew tight end Jerramy Stevens had some skeletons in his past, but there are some very startling accusations made by an alleged victim and police in a riveting story published Monday in the Seattle Times.
As part of a series of stories detailing a long history of past offenses by numerous University of Washington players, the story says an alleged victim and police investigators accused Stevens of rape in 2000 while at UW. Stevens allegedly drugged the freshman student and then raped her, leaving her with memory loss.
A frustrating chain of events between the police, who wanted to charge Stevens, and the prosecutors' office, resulted in charges not being filed. The alleged victim and Stevens settled in civil court in 2004 for an undisclosed sum.
The gist of the story is that Stevens, and others associated with the UW program, have received numerous chances to make up for past mistakes. Stevens has been arrested three times for alcohol-related offenses, his most recent resulting in a conviction in Arizona in September. He was sentenced to 12 days in jail but the jail term was stayed pending Stevens' appeal. The first of those offenses occurred while he was still enrolled at Washington.
Stevens signed a one-year contract with the Bucs not long after his last DUI arrest for a relatively meager $600,000. He becomes a free agent next month, but there is no word on whether the Bucs plan to re-sign him.
The Bucs maintain that Stevens has been a model citizen for them since arriving in Tampa but make no apologies for his past offenses or allegations leveled against him. They offered no particular comment to this article because the allegations predate their relationship with Stevens.

He screwed up 3 times with the Seahawks, before they cut him. What a waste of talent.

I hope he changes and learns from his mistakes.. He sure is one of a kind talent.. We need him around here.
I hope we sign him

Read the story from the Seattle paper this guy needs to be behind bars! He also got off twice before while at UW on DUI. Ron & Ian also talked about it on their show this morning. If he didn't play football he would be behind bars.

Why would a star athlete have to drug a girl to have sex with her? I'm a nobody slob and I never had to drug anyone. I hesitate to pass judgment without all of the facts.
Posted by: Mr. S | January 29, 2008 at 01:50 PM
The Bucs need to get rid of him right away. Everyone should read the story from the Seattle paper, it shows he is a troubled person with a bad past and needs to be in jail. The people he hurt will never be the same no matter how much he paid them. I don't care how good a player is, if you have a background like his you need to go.
Posted by: ms | January 29, 2008 at 01:56 PM
He is flawed, read the Seattle paper article. He should not be in the NFL.
Posted by: Matt | January 29, 2008 at 01:58 PM
Apparently guilty till proven innocent is the order of the day. The insinuation that he raped a girl is pretty bad. But the prosecutor apparently had no evidence, which should tell us something.
Posted by: dionysis | January 29, 2008 at 02:07 PM
He is a disgrace, having reviewed some of the facts this man is at best a bum and at worst a criminal.
Posted by: joe | January 29, 2008 at 02:14 PM
People, get over yourselves. At least he’s not running for president!
Posted by: Barack | January 29, 2008 at 02:19 PM
Makes you wonder if the girl came back for more money now that he's in the NFL and he turned her down. A man is innocent until proven guilty. Bottom line, you settle in civil court, it's done. Arrest records are open to the public, so it isn't something that can be hidden. The criminal court system didn't have the proof to put him on trial. As BUCs headquarters state, he's been a model player during his time in Tampa. Let's hope he continues to behave, knowing eyes are upon him.

So...
It's over when the Civil Case Says...
Ask the Goldmans (sp)
Ask Ron and Nicole
Ask OJ...

I Thought he was a good pickup for last year but this year I say we draft a tight end and get this guy out of here. This guy doesn't deserve a second chance with this team. He has already had too many. That woman did not consent to sex with jerramy. She would not have filed charges against him if she did. He is not somebody I would want my team to have to depend on I think he already has shown he can't be reliable. No telling when this guy will get arrested again I hope he gets three dui's and has to spend ten years in jail. This is not somebody I would want my kids to look up too. Draft a tight end and get rid of this band-aid thats all he is anyways a quick fix. I heard gruden was looking at the tight ends at the senior bowl looks like its already in the making. Maybe you can get on a football team in prison. Maybe you will experience what marie experienced while your in there

I hope we release him this offseason
Posted by: Aaron | January 29, 2008 at 03:22 PM
Not sure how much credebility that a story with 2 drunk virgin co-eds can have though. There's a reason why this story is presented in a one sided manner with no quotes from the defense attorney.
Posted by: E | January 29, 2008 at 03:36 PM
I hope he is dropped and no other team picks him up. Let him try to survive on the miniscule earnings that most of us have to live on.
Posted by: Mark | January 29, 2008 at 03:42 PM
Hey Aaron, remember Duke University LaCrosse, no woman ever regrets drinking and getting drunk, then doing things she regrets. He's not perfect but Pitman has been convicted of beating his wife and endangering his children and no one is complaining about him. If he was more involved in the offense i think you guys would have a different approach.
Posted by: JJ | January 29, 2008 at 03:42 PM
Why are you defending him jj. Do you like rapists
Posted by: Aaron | January 29, 2008 at 04:05 PM
Excellent and powerful article from the Seattle Times. This guy is a bum and should be released immediately. He's gotten off easy on too many blatant offenses.
Posted by: Tim | January 29, 2008 at 04:15 PM
If you are writing the Stevens should get another chance, or the girl is seeking money, then READ THE STORY.
Posted by: Lee | January 29, 2008 at 04:32 PM
The Seattle Times has posted anything they could dig up about Stevens for years now.
Most of it, I think, is lies.
Posted by: Oliver | January 29, 2008 at 04:42 PM
The Seattle Times story is very disturbing. Are the Bucs going to do nothing?
Posted by: Brett | January 29, 2008 at 05:02 PM
Why does Bruce Allen keep bringing these criminals into our town.
Posted by: Rob | January 29, 2008 at 05:15 PM
Its funny all the attention to Stevens. What about Leonard Little who killed a women while DUI never spent a day in jail and had a subsequent DUI after that. Why dont we hear anything about that considering he has made millions playing for the Rams since those incidents!
Posted by: Jake | January 29, 2008 at 05:27 PM
Tampa was a murder and crime capital, long before Bruce Allen started "bringing these criminals into our town". Your viewpoint is narrow and shortsighted and reeks of ignorance. Every man deserves his day in court just as he deserves to pick himself up after he he has fallen. I dont condone anything he has done and if he is indeed gulity for all he has been accused of, then he deserves whats coming to him. But You people are neither his judge nor his jury. In closing " Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see." Just because its printed doesnt mean its true.

Posted by: | January 29, 2008 at 06:38 PM
maybe stevens can get some X-tacy pills from "Sea Bass" in Oakland. Gruden can probably help you with that Bra!! After all "That's just Sea Bass" The X got Sea bass a new contract as the highest paid kicker. There is hope for you "chester the molester."

Barack thanks for the Idea Steven's for president!
Posted by: T | January 29, 2008 at 07:00 PM
They should get rid of him, infact they never should have signed him in the first place. As for Pittman they should have cut him to. I don't care who it is, even if it were Brady, Manning, Brooks or Barber, then they should be gone. It is a shame how student athletes get away with so much, then it continues in the pros. They should be held accountable no matter who they are......
Posted by: Ray | January 29, 2008 at 07:29 PM
To JS #86...You are an idiot...Did you read the story. The guy raped a girl...I guess you do not have childern. I don't care if the guy is an MVP of the league - he has to go...and bring JS #86 with him!!!
Posted by: ps | January 29, 2008 at 08:47 PM
Regardless if they WANTED to charge him, he wasn't charged. Period. Like the blog says, these are predated allegations.
Posted by: Tonka | January 29, 2008 at 09:16 PM
he's never lived up to his potential . . . he got paid about what he is worth--Bucs should let him go be 3rd string TE for the Raiders and drop all the baggage
Posted by: FortMyersBucFan | January 29, 2008 at 09:34 PM
The "boy" raped a woman...somebody's daughter.... and that is only part of it. He has committed numerous crimes and has hardly paid a price. To anyone who says only white collar crimes go unpunished, well here are plenty of ones for you..... If he is resigned as a Buccanneer, I won't be there, until he is gone, maybe not then either.
Posted by: Jay | January 29, 2008 at 09:37 PM
I think Ray may have some issues. I am guessing he was picked last for kick ball(if you know what I mean?) So Ray, should they just be hung for who they are? And If it happened to my daughter no amount of money would settle it! Once you take the money You can't wine anymore.

Why would St. Pete Times even run this story ? Honest to god, if they can't take shots at Gruden, then thay go after the organization. What's past is past...
Posted by: mkurbo | January 29, 2008 at 10:11 PM
Sheesh nothing but a lench mob here. Who should we burn at the stake this week on the basis of opinion?
I'm not implying I'd let Stevens date my sister, but most of you give me the impression you have been exposed to sensationalism far too much and are willing to accept anything that is told to you as fact.
They must find it difficult, those who accept authority as truth, rather than the truth as authority.
-G. Massey
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
I really don't think Tony Dungy would react this way. I think he wouldn't cast someone aside just because of perception and basis of opinion.
There is no doubt that Stevens needs help and guidance, whether this story has any basis in fact or not. Tony would try to help this troubled soul. He wouldn't succumb to the cries of the blood thirsty mob. Whether it came in the guise of a newspaper article or so called fans.
I say if Stevens is taking the steps to better himself as a person and is willing to play for a price the Buc's dictate. Then I'm all for it. If he is appreciative for his 2nd chance he will work harder than most on & off the field.
Posted by: Geo | January 30, 2008 at 12:14 AM
I admit that I get as tired as anyone about reading the negativity towards the Bucs in the St Pete Times. But, how could anyone who read the article in the Seattle Times defend Stevens? We are all lucky that he has not killed anyone yet. This guy makes me sick and I hope that the Bucs do not resign him. I would not feel good cheering on this creep.
Posted by: Scott | January 30, 2008 at 01:07 AM
Oh, come on now everyone. This man is going to do you everyone proud if we just give him a chance. Just because you get accussed of horrific crimes does not mean that you are crazy or will do it again. I mean, to be accussed of such terrible attrocities and then be given a second chance.....well, you one would have to be crazy to commit more crime after this....

yeah lets cut him, but lets vote for hillary. honestly you people are hypocritical morons
Posted by: Bill | January 30, 2008 at 08:40 AM
I dont think that anybody here is "seriously" saying that taking advantage of a girl is ok. Even drunk its wrong and should not happen. The facts are that we dont know if she was just hammered. (freshman female= lightweight) or if she was drugged. And Stevens isnt the one that drugged her. According to this overly biased article Stevens was not at the party. So its not as if he would know if she was slipped a drug or just drunk. And is there any proof that they had not had interest in each other prior to this night. They were friends. I do feel terrible that she was taken advantage of while under the influence of what i dont know. Was stevens drunk? Is that mentioned? Has he had his chances... ABSOLUTELY. This is called his final chance. If he messes up here no one would sign him. Wasnt RAY LEWIS up for MURDER? Hasnt JAMAL LEWIS spent a year in jail? Where is the uproar there? If an incident occurs again obviously he should be cut and removed from the nfl. But the only proof your going off of is an extremely biased article. Anybody else notice most "quotes" are three words? I said most.
Posted by: Eric | January 30, 2008 at 09:00 AM
He's a pig. What a disturbing story. And for the Bucs to have no comment because it predates their relationship with him, what kind of cop-out is that? The Bucs should take a stand, do the right thing and cut him NOW and make it clear that this type of behavior will not be tolerated. If the Bucs don't come out strongly against him, I'm through with them. Glazier's WAKE up......Allen and Gruden are ruining the reputation of this team if they stick by Stevens.
Posted by: Charlie | January 30, 2008 at 10:27 AM
First off, this story was already blown wide open in Seattle in 2003. Look around your team, Pittman (tried to run over wife and child with car) and Jeremy Daterape Stevens. Remember when Sean Taylor spit in Pttiman's face? A classless act committed by a guy who would eventually be shot and killed defending his fiance and child towards a guy that TRIED TO RUN OVER AND KILL HIS WIFE AND CHILD!!!! Stevens should shock nobody here; it's par for the course under Gruden. There hasn't been a player with any class signed by the Bucs since they got rid of Dungy. You got rid of guys like Lynch for Pittman. Enjoy.
Posted by: eric | January 30, 2008 at 10:58 AM
I heard he is a great guy and has changed his ways. If I were the Bucs, I would give him a multi-year contract extension with a $10 mil signing bonus as a show of support.

This just in, the 2000 Summer Olympic games are about to get underway in Sydney.....yeah, this "news" is that old.
Posted by: skp | January 30, 2008 at 03:12 PM
Read the story. The Seattle PD had an open-and-shut case with DNA, witnesses, etc. The prosecutor's office had to twist and wriggle to get out of prosecuting Stevens. Their document explaining their failure to bring charges is difficult to read in light of the undisputed facts. They had to twist witnesses' and victim's testimony to avoid prosecuting him. All because he was a good tight end. I lived in Seattle all through this period and a lot of this was news to me even though I follow the UW and Seahawks avidly. I don't care that he's relatively ok now.
He's ruined too many lives. Something has to change.
Posted by: abg | January 30, 2008 at 10:26 PM
It's kind of strange this happened in 2000, but the story didn't come out until he leaves the Seahawks. While he's on the team they sit on story, but when he's elsewhere the story breaks.
Posted by: mark | January 30, 2008 at 10:37 PM
I agree with Mark in that it's a little strange that this all stayed wrapped up until he was with the Bucs. I don't know Stevens, but I know he scored a few touchdowns this year. If he stays clean, keep him. A team full of nice guys would be great, but only if they were winners. If it takes drunks and misfits to win a championship, so be it.
Posted by: John P | January 31, 2008 at 12:17 AM
This forum has tried him, found him guilty and handed down his sentence. Let's review the evidence. Victims character (unknown)? Prosecution evidence (in-conclusive)?
Bottom line, he has the athletic ability and size to become a Pro-bowl tight end. If he keeps himself out of trouble, what a steal. Re-sign him...
Posted by: Drew | January 31, 2008 at 12:34 PM
This story was written about the last great Washington huskies football team a team with several players who had trouble with the law.Jeramy Stevens was a part of that team so it's not some big conspiracy to get the Bucs but rather is an indeitment on the coaching staff ultimately Rick Neuheisel who alledgedly looked the other way in order to win.

"Marie's parents went with her. The medical staff found semen in her vagina and rectum, and a doctor told Marie that her anus had been lacerated."
"About the same time, Jerramy Stevens emerged from his room. He lived with several teammates in a house north of campus. He pulled a pair of women's underpants out of his jeans pocket and, according to a police report, told a roommate, "Look what I have."

Jerramy S,
I'll roll with you man, if you're ever in the San Francisco Bay Area. Become the Pro Bowl player you're capable of becoming. Stay focused and be great.
Go Bucs!!! Go Jerramy!!!

Thank god some people still believe in the constitution. If we put everyone in prison the cops wanted, noone would be able to pay for it. The girl had been drinking considerably before she "mysteriously" got loaded. She wanted to drag Jeramy's name thru the mud without being identified herself. How nice. Then she settled for cash. Is that what she wanted all the time? Isn't there a word for a girl who wants money for sex.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are an absolute disgrace for hiring a r@pist. For most companies, that's a disqualifying factor. But not for the Bucs. Pure sleaze. The Bucs and Jerramy Stevens are made for each other. Oh, but wait, he's probably innocent. Yes, my guess is that woman agreed to @nal intercourse in the alleyway. Yes, that makes sense.
Posted by: Roger | February 01, 2008 at 10:21 PM
This story is revealing because it demonstrates that our Tampa media (including the St Pete Times) AND Bucs management do not do a thorough job in letting the fans know about incoming players. How are we now supposed to know whether or not Stevens has been a "model citizen" since he has arrived in Tampa? Memo to the journalists of Tampa: do your jobs! Check out the facts before you spin a story! Whether or not one believes he is innocent, it is clear that Stevens has been given many "second" chances.
