Gilmore expected to sign with Bucs
Bears tight end John Gilmore is headed to Tampa Bay today and will sign a three-year contract with the Bucs.
Tampa Bay is looking to replace Anthony Becht and Jerramy Stevens, who are both unrestricted free agents.
Gilmore didn't expect to receive such immediate interest from the Bucs.
""The next thing you know, I'm on the phone with (Jon) Gruden,'' Gilmore told the Chicago-Sun Times. He told me, "I don't think you realize how excited we are to have you. You definitely figure into what we're doing, we're going to get you very involved in a lot of two tight end sets.' He wants me to do what I do and it sounds like I'll get a chance to catch a lot more footballs. He was probably a little more fired up than I was at the time.''

We picked up who?...

uhhh. why do we drop two former pro bowl caliber TE's for a backup from the Bears? i didn't realize we had a problem with that position

Sign Crumpler morons!

Sure, Crumpler would be great, and he still might make it to Tampa Bay but you have to realize that Gilmore is a great blocking TE and even a better blocker than Becht, according to the St. Pete Times.

I dont know who this guy is, but i, not gonna regret the signing if he really is a good blocker, i guess this means a no go for crumpler, then we should at least bring back Stevens

The draft is not very deep at the TE position. I think we will end up signing one of those two back.

Why bring back stevens??? We need good character in that locker room. And has anybody thought that Crumpler might be asking for more than he is worth?? Or maybe he has health issues. Remember the situation with Simeon Rice? Everybody was up in arms over the way it was handled though the Bucs gave him enough time to find another team by cutting him before training camp even started. And then he cut by 2 other teams. These guys might know more than we do about football.

Crumplah is a bum. We need a blocking TE for a good bargain. Let's save the money for a big-time DL and/or WR. Crumplah is waaaaaaay overrated and he will command a lot of money.

Im sick of haering everyone come down on Stevens,he made some mistakes, what people cant change?you all are as bad as him, what about Chiti Ahonitu,Cosey Coleman, and Mcants, are we going to call them scum bags now that they all got arrested,no one was saying anything about Dwight Smith when he was hear,GET OVER IT...

Yeah, Stevens only made a few mistakes, like putting it in the buttocks of a drugged up female behind some bushes. No biggie. All guys do that!
Posted by: Gruden | February 29, 2008 at 02:37 PM
I agree, Stevens is OK with me. it's not like he beat his wife "ie Pittman" He has a drinking problem, So what! There are plenty of us who have done worse. Our current president is ex-coke head. So what!
Let he without sin be the first to cast a stone.
I hope we resign Stevens he is an excellent TE.

I don't know how anyone who has read this article

can think Stevens is worthy of a spot on this team or any team.

not too excited about this move, but if he is a good blocker then we have our anthony becht back. i really like jerammy stevens, but if we cant get him back i guess crumpler is an option.

Wow,.. you people are just jackasses, not all Free agent signings shake the world but they are necessary, this guy is an excellent pass protector AND run -blocker, this is no way nixes the Crumpler deal, but I think Crumpler is headed for Tennesee. I do kinda like the rumor I hear that Ben Troupe is headed to town, that would be intriguing. there' s alotta Free Agents headed to won, but don't forget we had a pretty good team last year.

Crumpler weighs about 300 lbs last I checked. He has cankles for cripes sake! He's done! I don't think any football players deserve a second chance at a once in a lifetime gig; but that's just my opinion. Stevens should be a ditch-digger somewhere with someone forcing their gameccock into his mouth! Otherwise I'm happy though. DL and WR is what we should be concentrating on, but small pickups like this are the gems we see come to fruition later in the year when our O-line is road-grading the Packers Defense. We've got Smith to catch and this new guy to block. Bring back Heller too I say!!!! Go Bucs!!!

I don't know about Washington, but sodomy between two consenting adults is not against the law in Florida, Gruden. Feel free to experiment.
