Saints WR Henderson on the way

Another confirmed free-agent visit: Agent Jimmy Sexton tells us the Saints' Devery Henderson will be making a visit to Tampa Bay.

Henderson, 5-11 and 200 pounds, caught 20 passes for 409 yards in 2007. The 25-year-old has averaged 20.2 yards per catch in his three NFL seasons.

This might not be the blockbuster receiver most were hoping the Bucs would pursue, but he does possess the kind speed the Bucs are looking to add. And because he's still young and improving, there is a feeling he has some upside to tap into.

Considering the unimpressive group of receivers available in free agency, getting Henderson might be considered a small victory. Jerry Porter just got a $30-million contract from Jacksonville, and little-known Andre Davis re-signed with the Texans yesterday in a deal that will pay him about $4-million per year.

As I told you earlier, we hear the Bucs think they haven't seen the best of Michael Clayton and Maurice Stovall and think they can get production out of them in 2008. They both are tough receivers willing to do the dirty work and run inside routes. Maybe if an effort is made to involve them in the offense a little more regularly they'll start to show some consistency.

Either way, don't look for the Bucs to spend crazy money at this position. And don't lose sight of their ability to further address the position in the draft, which is rich in receiver talent.

Sign Him!!! He's very young & would help Galloway a lot!!! We need help big time at WR.

Straight burner! Serious speed but his hands aren't great. I love that we are going after division rivals players.

Henderson is inconstant as hell, but fast. Sign him if the offer is marginal and incentive-based.

Speedy but with butter hands?

Sounds like Joey Galloway at 25 years old.

Henderson would be a great slot reciever for us, much like a Welker, and even Donte Stallworth. I guess we'll see what happens.

The idea is to get faster so signing this guy makes sense. Plus, I'm sick of the Saints having umpteen amounts of WR's beating us down the field.

Henderson will be a solid pickup.

We need Him!!!!

We would be stupid not to pick him up.

sign him ... sign him... sign him!!!

If he is that fast, can he return kicks? We need help in that area.

If we get him it will be a good pick up he is a real burner hes gotten the best of the bucs at times, i say sign him, and go after Bryant johnson of the cardinals too.

Yay.

Another receiver with no hands.

Henderson could be reunited with Michael Clayton from their LSU glory days. It would be a nice pickup at a pretty decent price I imagine. Believe it or not, I still have some faith in Mike. He's too good and too smart to be bad.

I am really excited about the upcoming year. We're heading in the right direction.

He had pretty good hands whenever he played against the Bucs.

Great move so far. I understand that bucs are looking at that guy from Applation State(sorry about the spelling )he was great in the senior bowl. Another RB I like is RB from Tulane. But their is alot of Free Agents out their, and they will fit in just great. Can you Imagine what defensives would have fits with Bucs Offensive side of the ball with new WR's, Te's and Rb's on the Bucs. Go Bucs.

YES!!! Ive always been a fan of devery, and he is straight fast. GET HIM!!! i love these free agent signings.

SPEED kills, just ask us first hand. He's beat us several times, but let's not back the Brinks truck up here. He is inconsistant, but with the proper grooming from Joey G. we could have a great pick up.

$30 Million for Porter. That's nuts. These are the same teams passing on Moss last year for peanuts whose WORST years would be one of Porter's best.

Sometimes I don't understand the herd mentality amongst football teams.

Get him, if we are signing backup TE's from non explosive offenses (i.e. Da Bears) then we should go after a fast WR from a productive offense , that just seems to make scence to me.

Sign him if it is a good deal. He's got to get better if he wants big dollars. Give him an incentive laden contract; that's how you handle the "iffy" players. Make them prove themselves on the field.
