Walker hits the market

There's another free-agent receiver on the market for the Bucs to consider.

Word out of Denver is that the Broncos have released disgruntled veteran Javon Walker, making him an instant unrestricted free agent able to sign with any team. We've previously reported that the Bucs had engaged in conversations with Denver about a potential trade for Walker, but with most expecting his eventual release, the Broncos were at a serious disadvantage in negotiations. A $5.4-million bonus that would have been due on Tuesday made this move pretty predictatable.

Now Walker is a free agent, there are likely to be a number of interested teams largely because of the lack of depth in this class of free-agent receivers. The Bucs could join the Cowboys and and a number of other potential suitor, but don't expect the Bucs to get into a bidding war for his services.

Walker, 29, is coming off a knee injury that limited him to eight games and five starts in 2007, which he finished with 26 receptions for 287 yards. In his last full season, 2006, Walker posted 69 catches for 1,084 yards.

get him

George Hicks

What do you mean that Bucs won't get into a bidding war, If all this so call talk about trading for his services. I would with over 40 million to spend it would send the message to rest of the league, That this year do mess with the Bucs. Can you Imagine if Tampa get Henderson and Walker. I would just static about the possibilities. Go Bucs.

ryan callahan

i think that we should get him as long as we dont go crazy with the money. i dont think dallas will spend too much on him, as they already have TO and will prolly draft another WR, so i dont think they will outbid us.

This would be a great addition for the Buc's a younger, faster Ike Hillard. He is also a potential threat on the opposite side of Joey G. J-Walk is looking for a fresh start due to a couple of factors: the death of his close friend Durrant Williams on New Years and the fact that they didn't use him the way that was promised once trading for him from Green Bay. I think this is a great fit for the
Buc's. A player hungry to get the ball and wanting to win. A deadly combination in a player on the free agent market.

Harvey

Stay away from Walker, go after Moss, we need big play wide out not over middle whiner. We need turner too.

Jon

Walker is a malcontent and isn't that talented either. Everybody was down on Moss last year and he's 3 times the reciever that walker will ever be and Walker has a longer history of being enough of a PIA that he forces teams to get rid of him.

Pass unless we can get him VERY cheap.

Jim

Moss? what an a-hole,.. I 'd love to se his disrespectful, arrogant stank outta the league.

Dan

Buyer beware: three knee surgeries and a malcontent

kurt

i agree. i don't like this guy much. plenty of talent, but just kind of a jerk. he'd end up getting couched like kj did.

DR

He's isn't a malcontent. He lost his best friend and teammate in a drive by shooting. He hasn't been able to focus ever since. At least he has a legit excuse. What is Clayton's excuse for sucking?

Skylar

Doesn't: "best friend was killed in a drive by shooting" pretty much sum up this thug's existence? I mean, doesn't that just beg for a non-reply to that ignorant statement? Clayton looked fine last year; remember, he's a possession receiver and he did his job rather efficiently. Moreover, and overlooked by the non-astute talent evaluator is that, he's probably the best blocking WR in the league (maybe Jurevicious,) but still in the running. A more appropriate comparison would be to Galloway, of whom, there is no comparison (on and off the field) to Walker. I think the talent is there, but it is completely off base to presume he is not malcontent when he showed his buttocks in Green Bay a few years back. We have good starters and good prospects. I believe everyone is making too much of our "need" at WR. Galloway, Hilliard, Clayton, Warren, Stovall, Jones, etc is a pretty good stable. We should be patient and get good value prospects and a possible stallwart if he falls to us.

DR

You ever get in a limo Skylar? The drive by incident was a random act. They weren't the targets. Walker needs a change and he'll do just fine. He's a better WR than anything the Bucs have. He's had really good years and some not so good because of injury. Galloway has had one, maybe two solid years in his career. The Bucs don't have a true #1, that is what they're missing. Clayton is terrible. He's done nothing since his rookie year and can't make a big play to save his own life.
