DE Douglas agrees with Bucs
San Francisco 49ers free agent defensive end Marques Douglas has agreed to terms on a four-year deal with the Bucs.
Douglas, 31, will help fill the void left by Greg Spires and Kevin Carter, who were released in cost-cutting moves two weeks ago. Carter, who visited the Oakland Raiders earlier this week, still could re-sign with the Bucs.
Douglas was brought to the 49ers by Mike Nolan to help the team adjust to the 3-4 scheme. The 6-foot-2, 292-pound Douglas entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens.
Last season, Douglas finished fourth in the NFL in tackles for loss with 12. He recorded 72 tackles, three sacks and 16 quarterback pressures.
Douglas could play defensive tackle or defensive end in the Bucs' 4-3 scheme.

Huh? Nevermind I don't know who he is, why would you give a 4 year contract to a 31-year old backup? I confused

Disregard previous comment. I looked him up and looks like a solid player. A lot of tackles for an end with 60 or 70 a season. He only had 72 tackles last season, not 100. Should be a good pickup. Hopefully we didn't pay too much.

They needed a solid, if unspectacular LE to replace the Spires/Carter combo. I like the Douglas signing much better than the Wiklerson one.

Good Pickup! Douglas could be an excellent sub off the bench to help split time with Greg White. Remember that White had 8 sacks in only 10 games. Let's get him signed! Then look to the draft for either a defensive tackle, end and a CB.

Douglas is also a candidate to play some under tackle for us. He's sort of like Kevin Carter-very versatile. Good pick up.

Has anyone else seen that the lions cut kevin jones, and are now gonna look into signing pittman to the roster, why does marenelli keep trying to get all are bucs players he might as well stayed to keep coaching if he wanted to keep looking at bucs players.

Dwane... it's "OUR" Bucs players, not "ARE".

1. our (possessive determiner):
belonging to us; of us
2. are
Second-person singular simple present tense of be.
Mary, where are you going?

Can anyone say manchester United....

This guy was completely under the radar eh? 72 tackles is a very solid number and 12 for a loss. I'm not complaining about that pickup; especially since I didn't even know this guy existed. Bucs are pulling in some real nice gems this offseason; really upgrading our depth. Good job!

well i meant our, im at work so i have to type fast at times, this is a football blog it doesnt matter if spell stuff wrong on accident, you got what i was saying and meant, stop lookin to much into detail so much its not that serious, were talkin football not about grammar.

hmm, the one faulting dwayne for spelling wrong couldn't even spell dwayne's name correctly, so go figure.. Go Bucs!!

Solid and durable player who will suit up every Sunday and play hard. Not a marquee name, but I like the fit.

to the guy talking about the lions. I think it is because he (Marinelli) already knows the guys, it is the same reason why the bucs have signed so many ex-raiders.
Posted by: carlos | March 13, 2008 at 08:45 PM
thank you for whoever corrected that guy, ive been a buc fan since i was a little boy so i know why marinelli is doin but im just saying he goes one after the other in like a week span at least gruden spaces it out and never signed 3 raiders to the bucs in a week span is wat im saying.

Holy run-on sentence Batman!!!

This is a great pick up for our D-Line, we just added depth to D end, Under Tackle and D Tackle. Here's a guy who will come in here and put in work like the older Spires and Carter did before hitting a wall. He's hungry to get to the next level with his career coming to an end and what better place to do it other than Tampa. Cory great way to research your teams pick up before smashing them. Dwayne you know that you work better with people that know what your trying to accomplish, so this is why you see the former Bucs in Detroit. The Guy on the Couch must be a woman for correcting someone's grammar. Who cares that he spelled something wrong. You were smart enuff(oops enough) to understand what he was saying so let it go.

It looks like we're taking a page from the Patriots book (the legal book, not their other book :-D) by signing a lot of "role" players and not mainly marquee guys. Sure, Brady has become a household name, and Moss is a block-buster, but their main formula is guys like Stalworth, Gay, Welker, etc.
Now we've got a good core, and we're adding situational guys to make it even stronger and more robust. So far a good off-season. Go Bucs!

Lets hope that all of these free-agent signees have quick learning curves, otherwise talent means nothing.

this is a fantastic signing. this was a steal. very solid player.

Tony Romo is better than all 12 of your QB's combined.
Posted by: DR | March 14, 2008 at 08:28 AM
You're right DR. I especially like the way Romo handles FG snaps. He also looked great in the NFL Championship game against the Giants with a hobbled TO. I hear they are already casting his bronze statue for Canton.
Posted by: Duane | March 14, 2008 at 08:42 AM
That wasn't me Duane. Romo does have a lot to prove. I would take Romo over any Buc QB, easily. He fumbled a snap he shouldn't have taken. He was the only starting Qb in the league that was holding snaps. He made a mistake, so what? He played average against the Giants, who did better? Nobody. Not even Brady. Brady had his worst game against the Giants.
Your busting up Romo for his 2 years of experience but where is the criticism for Favre? Favre has blown more playoff games than he has won. Yet, they call him one of the greatest.
Posted by: DR | March 14, 2008 at 03:00 PM
he gets tackles for losses, and that could be very good for us. Plus, on the bucs d line, there are really no actual starters. everyone cycles out. You could start with adams, hovan, haye, and douglas, and cycle out our other defensive players. but, i do want to see him in action before i am completely sold on him.

Say what you will, but the fact remains, I have man love for Romo!

Some people look under their bed for the boogie man. The boogie man looks under his bed for Jeff Garcia.
Posted by: The Man | March 15, 2008 at 03:17 PM
I wear Tony Romo replica panties.

I really like the Bucs off-season moves so far, and think each will improve our team. Given Gruden's penchant for veterans, why doesn't he bring in Troy Brown from the Pat's? Brown can still play and contribute, on and off the field. Especially as a mentor to the younger WR's. Coupled with Wilson on DF and Brown on OF, I think it would be a great addition to have one more Super Bowl player fly south and help us for next season.
