Did Bucs jump the gun on Faine? | Main | NFL proposing measures to curtail tampering, tanking »

No tampering charge filed against Bucs

Although Chiefs coach Herm Edwards made a pretty clear implication that the Bucs tampered with center Jeff Faine while he still was under contract with the Saints, a league official tells us no charge has been filed with the NFL office.

NFL Senior Vice President of Public Relations Greg Aiello said "in order for a tampering case to proceed, a team has to charge another team with tampering or we must have sufficient evidence to warrant an investigation."

In this case, it appears neither exists. And it has been indicated to us the Chiefs have no intention of pursuing this matter any further. We also have been told there isn't much basis for a case to proceed, so it's likely this story will fade quickly. The source of that information labeled the accusation "comical."

I wasn't there and can't say what happened, so just take it all for what it's worth.

Sounds like sour grapes from a guy who will likely be unemployed at the end of next season. Tampering is universal in the NFL, and he's just peeved because his tampering wasn't as good as the Bucs in Faine's case.

How in the world the Jets got the Chiefs to pay draft choices for Herm Edwards is the real unsolved crime. :)

Rich McKay

I'm the best tamperer in the world. I can tamper better than bruce, and especially that dude who ran me out of town, Jon Guru...Grudnen...no Gruden, yea him. Tell them Stephen, or get Rick and he will tell them that I am the best tamperer in the NFL. And tell Herm he is on my Shiz list for not putting out the word I am the best tamperer.

BE

Well, it's good to hear that this will (hopefully) be put to rest.

DR

I tamper with my Romo and jessica doll in my dollhouse, it is so exciting...anyone have a black Ken doll, my mom said they used to make them years ago, and I would like to get one and put some dreads on him to make him Pac-man, the it will be me, Tony, Jessica, and the pac-man tampering in my doll house. Thanks cuties..

poolman

Poor Herm...what a shame. Wonder if he will follow Shaun to the Arena league?

Justin M

Man, how lame are the stories in the offseason?

j.k.

DR- That's classic. I can't stop laughing. I knew you loved the Cowboys but you might want to see a therapist.

Well it seems that Herman Edwards wants to complain about tampering charges! Well the bucs got the Vet center to sign on the dotted line. Oh, How many Division championships has Edwards brought to Chiefs! Tampa may not have all the prize FA's in camp but we have a few good men to sign in Tampa in 2008. Bring the Draft on, How about two WR's and 2 CB's and another OC. That would make my day in the Bucs.

Stephen_Holder

Justin, that's kind of a lame comment, bro. We don't make the news, we just report. It is March. Can't expect a whole lot this time of year. Owners' meetings are next week and we'll start turning attention toward the draft. Hang in there man.

Rodger

Squirmin Herman must think he lost out on a player he thought he could sign.

Darren

It would be too disrespectful for the Bucs to charge Herm Edwards with incompetence.

Would this be a good time for the Glazers to announce that they will offer additional services for Superbowl fans with special needs? (I assume that the coaches of the NFL’s other 30 teams will be attending the Superbowl.)

If Hermie gets lost, he can get someone to show him to his seat. If Hermie needs to goto the bathroom, he can ask someone to give him directions. If Hermie gets scared, he can be reassured that security would not let the boogeyman into the stadium.

d

look the guy is just jealous of wat we got and he doesnt if he is he should come out and say it first off they need more than a center for that team.

The King

Maybe someone should remind ol' Herm that most free agents want to sign with playoff quality teams...

mkurbo

How funny ! We went from “We have not forgotten you – we are off writing articles on March Madness” to running back and cranking up the old negative propaganda machine. It’s not that off-season stories are lame, they just will not work to write a positive article most of the time.

But give them a negative bite – like the tampering charge – and its hold the presses…

Leon

Hey Gary, ESPN thinks the Bucs are being smart in free agency and spending their money wisely in a lame market. If they had listened to you, we would have a bunch of losers and a trashed cap. Next you'll be writing for the Clearwater Sun - oops its gone like you should have been a long time ago. Keep up the bad work.
