Pearson officially a Lion, Wilson deal close

The Bucs failed to match the offer sheet for safety Kalvin Pearson, who officially joined the Lions Wednesday.

Pearson, a restricted free agent, signed a three-year, $3.5 million offer sheet that included a $1.1 million signing bonus with the Lions last week. The Bucs had seven days to match the contract and retain Pearson, but declined.

However, the Bucs are believed to be close to signing Patriots safety Eugene Wilson, who also could play cornerback. Wilson had been deciding between the Bucs and Titans.

I love me some hot dogs.

That would be an upgrade over Pearson no doubt.

good hopefully wilson can contribute and i wish pearson and the lions good luck cuz they're gonna need it there's a reason the bucs don't want pearson:he sucks

Finally we are taking some action! It is about time.

Jessica Simpson almost showed me her Hooters on TV, but she was just playing with her pink Romo jersey and another teams player on the TV. I was so excited but my Mom got mad, and made me go to sleep without my Romo doll. Please tell me those stories about Gruden at Hooters, my Mom thinks this is about the Bucs, and she will never know I have dreams about those bad people who have a life and go to Hooters. Ohhhhhh where is my Romo doll.

Why couldn't they take Sammy Davis instead!?

why in the hell would we sign a safety? we have flip and tanard as our starters and our 2nd round pick from last years draft, Sabby Piscatelli can play both safety spots as their back ups. you dont draft a guy in the 2nd to NOT play...he got hurt last year and allen/gruden decided to put him on injured reserve. he was healthy and ready to play in week 10. so the decision to put him on IR was a bit premature. as far as Wilson playing some corner, why? rhonde, buchannon, cox and i am sure we will draft one. if we do this it will make no sense. wasted money.

cox is just a special teamer, not a good CB

i wish the bucs would go after jason taylor who is not happy in miami....and wants to be traded.....they have the money and he would make that defensive line great

ROFL! This is the first time DR has ever posted anything I enjoyed. Now as far as why did we get a safety, come on people...this isn't the draft. Picking up a mid-priced free agent at one position doesn't mean you can't pick another player up now. More trust, less whine!

Detroit Bucs????

One point everyone should remember on Wilson: everything I've heard indicates they're looking at him to play CB. He did so in college and, I believe, early in his career in New England.

Will Allen has become a liabiltiy, don't know what happened to him, but he has lot some of his game. Wilson is an upgrade as a backup, and if he can play corner also, sounds like his game is the same as Jackson.

This would be a GREAT signing. Wilson is a very talented guy when healthy. And, as it's been noted, he CAN play corner, which I hope is where they would put him. However, the versatility he and Tanard both share could allow the Bucs to use either of them at FS and CB interchangeably, depending on the package, etc.

Wilson was a pretty good CB in college, pre-season All-America his last year, had some good numbers too. Philip Buchanon isn't bad, but he tries to make the big play too often...he got burned a few times last season.

I can tell you why they want a safety, we collected QBs, RBs, and LBs we need to add DBs now lol

I think Wilson plays cornerback. I also think we should be looking at a WR or RB early in the draft, or even both. We have lacked blue chip impact players on offense. Cadillac has been a bust, Clayton will probably get cut in training camp. Paris Warren is a nice fit, only if he can stay healthy. Take Desean Jackson or one of the elite first round Running Backs. We are very close.

Why is this on the October 21st 2008 front page?
