Round-by-round Bucs draft picks

Here's something I've been asked about a few times.

I've got the final draft order from the NFL that gives the round-by-round rundown. I can now confirm the Bucs will be missing their sixth- and seventh-round picks. The sixth-round choice goes to Kansas City to complete the Michael Bennett trade, while the seventh-round pick goes to Denver for Jake Plummer. Since these picks are often undisclosed, we're never totally certain until we see the final draft order.

The Bucs, as you probably know, select 20th in the first round. From there, they will alternate with the Redskins between 20th and 21st in subsequent rounds. The teams had identical records but the Redskins had a stronger schedule, so they pick after the Bucs in Round 1. So, the Bucs pick 21st in the second round, 20th in the third round and so on.

So with the new rules in place, rounds 1 and 2 will be held day one. That leaves us with 2 picks day one and three day 2. Better make 'em count!

So, who do you suspect the Bucs will pick with their first round selection, no. 20 overall. I think they'll pick a CB if we don't trade for one, maybe a WR, or DT.

Well, Mike if you really follow football most 6th and 7th round picks don't make the opening day team. They make the practice teams for the most so we aren't really missing anything here. Some standout special teams players come from these picks, so I think the Bucs were addressing that in the free agency with the LB pick ups.

Str8BunIn, I understand that. I am just saying make them count! I'm definitely good with having Bennett instead of the sixth but We got nothing from the Plummer trade. Recent late round guys that made it include Colston from NO and Ahmad Bradshaw from NYG.

Stephen, got any inside info on what inspiring words had for John Daly when he caddied for him? That guy is the Britney Spears of the Men's PGA Golf Tour. Ever since he had gruden for a caddy, his swing coach has quit on him and he has missed a tee time and was disqualified for a tournament because of it. What the heck did Gruden say to him? haha!

They could still receive some compensitory picks.

Yes, Cylo. Forgot about the compensatory picks. Should hear about those soon. And DR, not sure what Gruden and Daly talked about, but I have to ask, is anyone here surprised they hooked up in the Hooters tent at the PODS? I could tell you some Gruden Hooters stories but I don't want to embarrass him!

A 6th round pick for Bennett looks like a pretty decent deal, all things considered. The Plummer deal just sucks, feels like a total giveaway considering it was just about money in the end.

Losing the late round picks does hurt though. A guy like Maurice Purify out of Nebraska (who came from a Gruden offense) would be someone they'd take in the 6th round if he's there. Guys who aren't highly sought - but fit the system - are in those rounds.

I don't disagree with you two(Mike & John P) at all. We could get some steals at 6 and 7, but since we don't have any this year they signed some guys that are proven special teamers.

Special being the key word.

I reckon I'll have some french fried taters....uh huh.

I love me some hot dogs!

DR please...grab a dull knifie, run fast, then fall on it.

Only then will your Cowboys win another playoff game.

13 attempts/years/tries/seasons/busts) and counting...

Something's not working...F'n Bums!

Oh yes Stephen please tell me stories about Jon Gruden at Hooters. I plan to build a hooters in my Tony Romo dream Doll house in my bedroom at me and my Moms house, and Jessica Simpson is one of the waitresses, ohhhhh I can't wait to hear your embarassing stories, and then hug my Romo doll all night thinkig about that excitement.

Bucs would do well to study the Bill Parcells school of drafting and building a team.As he allegedly said,"Hey! I'm smart, I went ta Collitch. Not no Ivy League school like what some of yuse went to , but least ways I gradgiated . Ya know what I'm say'in? My experience in the NFL far exceeds what yuse has had to know and what not.

RUMOR has it that many pro prospects are upset over unique Pro Day drills used by Bucs coaches: "The Mule Pull" and the "Hawg" Chase" are least popular agility drills. tennesseesportsreviewer.com

1st round-sam baker, left tackle, USC.
2nd round-early doucet, wr, LSU
3rd round-dwight lowery, cb, SJSU.
4th round-trae williams, cb, USF.
5th round-yvenson bernard, rb, OSU.

Jam, 30 years and 1 super bowl. 100+ games under .500 as a franchise. You have a lot to be proud of!
I'm not a Bucs hater, just a fan who thinks the Bucs would have a better future with different leadership. It's 2008, last year wasn't 2002. A lot has changed since 2002 and i can't say its been for the better.
Better coaches have been fired with better records for better organizations.
You guys who criticize what the Cowboys have done the last 13 years just show how much more respect you have for them than you do for your own team. A loss in the playoffs should be humiliating for the Cowboys, but a playoff loss for the Bucs is progress. You guys make no sense.

other than the last paragraph, i agree with you DR.

You're fooling nobody, DR. You know if we released GruAllen, the Cowboys would be one of a bunch of teams scrambling to pick them up!

The Bucs will select QB's with each and every one of their picks...
