Scratch Walker off Bucs' list
Recently-released Broncos wideout Javon Walker won't be coming to Tampa Bay despite the Bucs' interest in the veteran.
The NFL Network reports Walker has agreed to sign a staggering six-year, $55-million deal with the Raiders. The contract will reportedly pay Walker $16-million in guaranteed money.
The Bucs need some receiving help, but not that bad. This is far more than anyone could have predicted Walker would make on the open market. Given the concerns about a knee injury that has required three operations in the past few years and caused him to miss two months in 2007, it seems particularly risky to give Walker a contract of that size.
Regardless, the Bucs will have one less playmaker to choose from after this deal is consummated.

If they want him that bad, they can have him. The Bucs are smart to sit out of these ridiculous deals that recievers are getting.

I really wanted him, but that contract is absolutely insane.

On a brighter note, at least we have a bunch of new scrub linebackers to improve our special teams play.
Posted by: The Man | March 04, 2008 at 10:28 PM
that contract is way too much for someone with such injury concerns, we need a wr, but not for that price. well now we really need to go after bryant johnson, and try to make sure we get deshaun jackson in the draft. also, get rid of bruce garbagowski since we have 30 qbs.

Go for Bryant Johnson or D.J Hackett!!!
Posted by: Anthony Gironda | March 04, 2008 at 10:55 PM
I don't know what we're waiting for, The WR free agents are going fast & we're doing nothing!!! WE'RE DOING NOTHING!!!

Well, it looks like the draft is the way to go. Like I said before, the only best FA worthy of any consideration was Moss who took even less to stay with the Pats. Now you Gruden/Allen bashers say all you want, but these average players are not really worth the money they are asking for. Gruden/Allen need to be applauded for not given in.

This just in: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have recently informed NFL Commisioner Roger Goodell that they plan to revolutionize the future landscape of NFL playbooks league-wide. The plan involves implementing a completely new offensive philosophy, in which the team will field and offense made up entirely of quarterbacks. This new wrinkle, combined with the masturful wizardry known as "Jon Grudens' Play Calling", will stifle and confuse even the most accomplished NFL defensive minds. Bucs Defensive Coordinator Monte Kiffen, after meeting with Gruden this afternoon, has released the following statement: "Jeez! I don't know what to say... that playbook makes me feel about as intelligent as John Madden sounds on TV!!!". Roger Goodell could not be reached for comment, however Gruden plans to release more info at a press conference to be held tomorrow at 10am Eastern.

ha ha ha, thats a fresh take on the "colecting QBs" bit. Last time I checked, the Bucs carry 3 QBs during the season like most other teams. If the Bucs had a young solid starter they wouldn't "collect QBs" AKA: try to improve the most important position on the team.

We need a running back and a cornerback before we need another receiver. What we don’t need is to overpay for a receiver just because he’s the last “big name” receiver available. We also don’t need that tiny speedster in the draft. We need a tall receiver that gets open and catches in traffic. You all just want to spend money on something like that is the solution. We will pick up a receiver somewhere along the line that runs good routes, gets open, and catches the ball. The primary need is to add a running back because we won’t be able to count on Williams making it back, and this is a real good year for running backs that can contribute immediately. The loss of Brian Kelly will require addressing, not to mention Barber isn’t getting any younger and it would be nice if they could find another slot corner that can blitz and run for Barber to mentor. The defense is what made the difference for the Bucs in 2002, and it was the defense that made the difference for the Giants in 2007. Play great defense, run the ball well, and the passing game will be just fine.

I don't know why everyone is all up in arms because we haven't signed a WR yet. Teams are over pay for players that won't be on their rosters in a few years anyway. There are a lot of quality WR in the draft this year. I'm pushing for the WR from Texas(Can't think of his name right now)in the early rounds and then maybe one of the WR from Hawaii in the later rounds because they all run outstanding routes and have good hands. Last but not least. Don't forget that teams realease players later in the year so that they can split unpaid bonouses over two years instead of one. That's how we got MaCardell and he worked out nicely. So have some patients and let's see what we pull out of our hats. The draft class from the last two years has been outstanding lets hope they keep the trend going.

Limas Sweed, ya thats the same guy I hope they go after in the 1st or second. As for the later round wr i hope they land dexter jackson a div tw player with speed that doesnt have to come in and play right away.
Posted by: AJ | March 05, 2008 at 03:21 AM
first of all we dont need a RB in the first round of the draft. Is every body blind ernest grahm played awsome. he scored 10 rushing touchdowns, when was the last time a back did that for us in one season. Not to mention he is a good receiver.what we really need is a WR who can get open and catch balls over the middle to help Galloway and keep garcia from getting killed, because he cant find an open man.We also need to sign jearmy stevens back because he showed alot of promise. gruden needs to add our offence to the top 10 im tired of waiting thats what he was brought in here for and hasnt deliverd

I think all this WR fervor is a bunch of rabid fans who don't see the true weakness' in out football team. We need a DL and CB depth more than anything on the offense! We've got 6 good WR's on this team (Galloway, Hilliard, Stovall, Warren, Clayton & Jones) and 3 good RB's (Graham, Bennet & Darby,) although you do need 4 to make a stable. Javon walker is over-rated and now overpaid. Our front office has been very judicious and in the end we will be the better for it. Oh yeah, and Chrissy Simms will not be here next year...let McKay have him...hehehe!
Posted by: Kurt | March 05, 2008 at 06:24 AM
I agree with Anthony. All that money everyone wants to spend, some should go to Graham who bailed our @sses last year. I would rather see him get a fat contract than all these mediocre players on the market.I also like Stevens, yeah he may have had problems in the past but so have I. I may never have gotten a girl drunk and plugged her in the butt, well maybe I have but that’s beside the point. He hasn’t been in trouble since coming to Tampa.

DRAFT JOSH JOHNSON OUT OF SAN DIEGO UNIVERSITY!!!!
Posted by: mike jones | March 05, 2008 at 07:28 AM
The Bucs have 6 good WR's? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
Stevens sucks! He's probably sucked a few things too, thats what sissies like him do.
The Bucs started the season with 4 active QBs and then put Simms on the IR after injuries started to get bad.
And the Bucs will get slaughtered by the Cowboys just like they did the last time they met, on Turkey day! The Bucs have no shot with the weak roster they have now.
Brooks and Barber are great, but old now. They need to find their replacements.

I think DR and The Man are "LIFE PARTNERS"

Yeah I wish we would have picked up Zach I see stars Thomas. Good move Cowboys!
Posted by: Mike | March 05, 2008 at 08:43 AM
Aren't all of the Cowboys also enterprising in the Crack for Steroids trade? I'm just saying...
Posted by: Kurt | March 05, 2008 at 09:01 AM
There goes DR again, speaking out of his...ignorance. Stevens isn't a WR and the Cowboys only have two receivers of note, and none of them are as fast a Galloway. And yes, that class act organization that you always claim Jerry Jones and Co. to be has been wrapped in crack and steroids controversies for a year now. Way to go Cowgirls. Oh yeah, and did your QB choke again in the big game...just like I said he would? You're a complete Doofus Ray and always have been...now bring me my pizza b34tch.
Posted by: Sklar | March 05, 2008 at 09:06 AM
Skylar I have to disagree. Dallas has ONE receiver. Stick a fork in Glenn. Crayton has been inconsistent. He has shined at times and then flopped.
Posted by: Mike | March 05, 2008 at 09:15 AM
Whitten is a TE so we can't really count him.
Posted by: Mike | March 05, 2008 at 09:16 AM
Look we only have 1 WR that did any good last year look at the stats. now with that you will always overpay for a few players but we have the money the bucs will pick carter back up and we can find a wr in the draft its a WR year. lets get a Cb with good talent thats buryed on some ones roster and lets not forget latter draft picks can always suprise you just look at t. jackson for us last year. and if we have money lets spend some
Posted by: sem | March 05, 2008 at 10:36 AM
DR left for a while now i see hes back, but like i broke down to him before, the cowboys lost last year in the playoffs like the bucs so if he thinks are bucs suck then well his cowboys suck just as well, had that good record and romo having a good year was all for nothin, and yea you guys beat us last time but Gradkowski was the qb in his first year but the 2 times before that you guys lost to us 16-0 and 10-6.
Posted by: Dwayne | March 05, 2008 at 11:58 AM
I really don't know why people are clamoring for the Bucs to sign Johnson or Hackett. Hackett's got some speed, but neither are an upgrade in talent over what the team already has. Hackett and Johnson had 5 TDs between them last year. Stovall could be a great red zone weapon if Gruden had patience for him. And Warren was coming on before his injury. I think they should draft a wideout with speed, but not DeSean Jackson--the guy could be another Jacquez Green.
Posted by: JC | March 05, 2008 at 12:36 PM
My comment about Stevens had no reference to the WR position. My comment towards Kurt statement about having 6 good WR's was HAHAHA.... I'm still laughing.
Wow, Galloway is fast, whoopty freakin' doooo! Yeah, he produces in the clutch. Casper the friendly ghost has better hands than Galloway in big time situations.
How good is Galloway? He had ONLY 3 games with 6 receptions or more. ONLY 3 games over 100 yards receiving with 2 of those games against the Aints defense. Thats not #1 Go-to receiver stats right there.
The Bucs have the money and there is a WR worth spending it on, and that's Larry Fitzgerald. The Cards can't afford his enormous contract the next years and are willing to trade him if he won't restructure. The Bucs should spend a first day draft pick and a few second days to get this guy who is a proven vet that has many GREAT years ahead of him. Plus he can knock down a bad pass by Garcia when he has to instead of watching the CB intercept a pass. This would allow Galloway to return more punts and kickoff returns, which he needs to do since he likes to disappear quite often on offense.
Posted by: DR | March 05, 2008 at 02:45 PM
A go to receiver is a guy that has consecutive 1000 yd seasons and averages 18yds per catch. You can't seriously cast doubt on Galloway as a receiver. Maybe early in his career but certainly not now. As for Fitzgerald, Well I totally agree with you on that. Of course he would have to agree to sign a long term contract.
Posted by: Mike | March 05, 2008 at 03:07 PM
I do agree that Fitzgerald would be a great pickup, but then again, who wouldn't agree with that? Otherwise, your statements are base and rather uneducated.
Posted by: Kurt | March 05, 2008 at 04:16 PM
DR is right. Galloway is not a go to reciever. He can't catch in traffic or double coverage, he's afraid of getting hit. A good #1 reciever makes the difficult catches, not just the easy ones. Sure, he gets 1000 yard seasons, but we should expect that since he is the only reciever being thrown to consistently. Clayton is probably the toughest reciever on the team, but I doubt he gets back to his rookie season form. Hilliard is the most reliable reciever on the team but nobody ever mentions him. Maybe the problem is that we have Galloway as the focus of Grudens play book? When Griese was our starter, he spread the ball around and improved the play of guys like Clayton. We saw a little bit of that from McCown last season as well. So... I think maybe the problem is either Garcia not trusting his recievers (besides Galloway), or play calling revolving around Galloway.
