Bucs move down six spots
Here's the skinny on the just-announced trade:
The Bucs have moved down six spots to No. 58, swapping second-round picks with Jacksonville. They've also picked up a couple extra picks with the move: No. 158 in the fifth round and a seventh-rounder in 2009.
This, of course doesn't clarify anything as far as the potential Jason Taylor trade. It's possible the Bucs are trying to accumulate additional picks to seal the deal.
Stay tuned.

The Bucs better not trade anything more than higher than thier 3rd and some additional picks for Jason Taylor. Jeez, can we get a QB of the Future here in Brian Brohm at #58 already?

I hope not. I'm guessing they werent sold on Sweed? Probably worried he's already a very similar player to Clayton and stoval size and speed wise.
I think giving up a second for Taylor is a mistake. At this point all the first and second tier WR's are off the board except for Mario Manningham.

Is it me or is there very little known about what's going on outside of the Bucs FO? ESPN and NFLN both haven't said a word about what's going on with the Bucs end of this trade with Jacksonville. WTH?
Hello? Can we get some info here guys of why we move down 6 picks just to add a 5th rounder and a 7th? That doesn't make much sense with both Sweed and Brohm on the board.
Posted by: James | April 26, 2008 at 08:31 PM
We could have had Ray Rice or Sweed...DARNIT! One of those guys will be in the Pro Bowl...
Posted by: | April 26, 2008 at 08:32 PM
I say we pick up UF WR Caldwell
Posted by: bucs fan 4 life | April 26, 2008 at 08:33 PM
this turned aweful for TB in those six spots we lost sweed, brohm, and henne... ouch.. lets see how we rebound..
Posted by: JS | April 26, 2008 at 08:33 PM
The Bucs let Brohm, Sweed, and Rice go the way China went in the 1940's. This is a very bad day for Bucs nation, a very bad day.

DEXTER JACKSON
Posted by: | April 26, 2008 at 08:36 PM
Now we draft dexter jackson... 5-10 180 pounds... hmmm... no the best
Posted by: JS | April 26, 2008 at 08:36 PM
jackson a small school receiver is not big enough for the NFL...a bad pick...just my opinion.
Posted by: | April 26, 2008 at 08:39 PM
LOL what a reach - passing up Sweed, Rice and Brohm for an undersized wideout.
And for what, another 5th rounder to blow on a bust?
Sheesh.
Posted by: | April 26, 2008 at 08:40 PM
Steve Smith 5'9 185..Hmmm not the best..
I'm just saying dont judge on Height/weight.
Posted by: kevinmmills | April 26, 2008 at 08:40 PM
Unbelievable!!!
Does Allen have a clue??? App State 2nd rd??? This draft is going to rank up there with the Booker Reese draft
Posted by: Jeff | April 26, 2008 at 08:40 PM
Also I'm pretty sure he's bigger than Desean Jackson.
Posted by: kevinmmills | April 26, 2008 at 08:41 PM
Oh here we go all the hippies are coming out to tell me that this pick is gooing to be the next Steve Smith and that I am a bandwagoner for questoning this pick, and their favorite color is the rainbow.
Posted by: Jake | April 26, 2008 at 08:42 PM
You all wouldn't be happy no matter what the Bucs do and I'm sure most of the above have no idea who he even is. The Jackson pick is outstanding, yea he's small but he runs a 4.3 ask Joey Galloway if that can work in the NFL. As for being a small school player, ask Michigan if that small school player was any good.
Posted by: | April 26, 2008 at 08:42 PM
He's a burner. That's what we wanted. I think the reason we traded down was Jackson (DeSean) was taken 3 spots before us and Jackson (Dexter) would still be there AND we gain two picks.
I like it.
Posted by: Ish | April 26, 2008 at 08:42 PM
Pop the Michigan/App St game in. Probably a reach in the 2nd round but we've added speed at the position.
Posted by: | April 26, 2008 at 08:43 PM
i personally wasnt saying he's going to be steve smith. Just pointing it out for the people who know nothing about his game other then seeing his height/weight and rolling their eyes.
i dont think any WR we got this year was going to be a starter. 3rd/4th reciever at best.
Maybe we got great punt returner as well.

THE BUCS 2008 DRAFT ----- A BUST.
Posted by: | April 26, 2008 at 08:46 PM
"passing up Sweed, Rice and Brohm for an undersized wideout."
Brohm is overrated and if we picked him you would be blasting the bucs for picking another QB.
Sweed is the same player as Clayton and Stovall for all intents and purposes.
Ray Rice would be at best our 4th RB and his ceiling isnt that high and he already has 900 some carries.
Jackson can come in and contribute in the return game and also as a slot receiver/deep threat, which fills an immediate need as Galloway is getting up there.
Posted by: | April 26, 2008 at 08:47 PM
studpid pick, what happens when garcia gets hurt...who's gonna throw "the speedster" the ball. should not have traded to Jax and shouldnt have picked up Brohm
Posted by: | April 26, 2008 at 08:47 PM
*should have picked up Brohm
Posted by: | April 26, 2008 at 08:48 PM
So Brohm was going to be our #2 over Griese and Mccown?
Not likely.
Posted by: kevinmmills | April 26, 2008 at 08:49 PM
I know you weren't saying that Kevin; though I can see where someone reads your post and then goes onto to compare the two.
Jackson is a fast WR and yes we needed the speed, but a 2nd rd pick on a guy that is rather small and has limited experience against quailty opponents. Yes, I am aware that they played Michigan week 1, but it is different having a great week and having a consistent career.
Posted by: Jake | April 26, 2008 at 08:52 PM
Dexter Jackson was heavily recruited by Florida and Georgia but he didn't have the SAT scores to get in, so he went to App. St. instead...So he very easily could have been from a "big time" school.
Posted by: ricky | April 26, 2008 at 08:53 PM
But for our needs he was the value pick. We've got too many QBs, Sweed won't stretch the field, and the OLB/DT positions were not worth a 2nd round pick.
Jackson will come in and study under Galloway. He'll have time to learn, and he'll put that speed to use. In the mean time, he's a punt returner.
Its a good pick.

"Yes, I am aware that they played Michigan week 1, but it is different having a great week and having a consistent career."
Yeah I'm sure the Bucs scouting of him was limited solely to the Michigan game?!? Give me a break.

Kalib and Dexter will be Pro Bowl type guys. Just watch. A brilliant draft so far. No tears here.
Posted by: Perry Russo | April 26, 2008 at 08:57 PM
I would have taken Ray Rice.
Posted by: | April 26, 2008 at 08:58 PM
this draft is terrible i'm watching the rays
Posted by: | April 26, 2008 at 08:59 PM
The Bucs gambled, and it remains to be seen (in 3 to 5 years) if this was the correct pick. The problem was that in the second round, there was a run on receivers. You would have thought that Washington was going to pick three (a TE and 2 WRs) in the same round!!! Then, the Steelers picked Sweed. That eliminated a number of potential options at WR. I just hope that choosing Jackson wasn't a panic pick. There were a number of receivers that fit the small, speedy prototype (e.g., Avery, DeSean Jackson, Royal). Just look at all the teams who reached for those receivers before the Bucs picked.

Ray would have been OK, but I think Graham/Bennett will be fine next year.

"Kalib and Dexter will be Pro Bowl type guys."
Christ, if you're gonna start making premature predictions, at least get the damn name right.
Posted by: | April 26, 2008 at 09:00 PM
Perry i wish i knew you so i could place a bet on your statement
Posted by: | April 26, 2008 at 09:01 PM
My point is that we used a 2nd rd pick on a KR. Look at Gruden's comments; basically they beleive that KR warrants a 2nd rd pick.
That blows my mind that we reached that far to get a KR. Is a KR really worth a 2nd rd pick?
Posted by: Jake | April 26, 2008 at 09:02 PM
no fsu picks yet right? i know they were awful last year but you'd expect at least one so far
Posted by: | April 26, 2008 at 09:02 PM
They could of has Sweed, Rice, Brohm if we would have stayed at our pick.
Posted by: Matt | April 26, 2008 at 09:05 PM
"Kalib and Dexter will be Pro Bowl type guys. Just watch. A brilliant draft so far. No tears here."
You are an idiot Perry, an idiot. What are you smoking?? Both of these guys will be lucky to MAKE the team, let alone go to Hawaii. This draft is among the worst in Buc history.
Posted by: | April 26, 2008 at 09:06 PM
At the start of the day we needed a CB and WR. Check and Check.
Mel Kiper had Talib going in the top 10 and Jackson is a burner.
Maybe the Jenkins/Brohm or Jenkins/Sweed combination would have been sexier for a newspaper article, but the proof will be in a year or two on the field.
Posted by: Matt | April 26, 2008 at 09:33 PM
I don't think I've seen a team get burnt so badly trading down 5 spots...ouch!
Posted by: Brutal Trade Down | April 26, 2008 at 09:35 PM
All the anticipation in the off season of waiting for this weekend and I sit here shaking my head going. Why the hell didn't the Bucs trade out of the first round and pick up another 2nd and maybe a 3rd. With all the trading up by teams Tampa didn't consider trading out of the 20th pick! Instead we took Pot Head! We could have had Devin Thomas and Flowers, Laws, or Carlson. Bruce get your head out of you know where.
