Meet Cory Boyd
Running back S.C., 6-1, 213 Round 7, 238th pick
Highlights/stats
Racked up 2,267 yards rushing and 1,303 receiving, joining Stanley Pritchett as the only Gamecocks to surpass 1,000 in both. … Was a bright spot in a struggling offense, rushing for 17 touchdowns over his final two seasons.
THE VERDICT
Boyd is a physical, inside runner and solid receiver out of the backfield. Far from flashy, he doesn’t have that high-end speed (4.52 seconds in the 40-yard dash) but is hard to bring down. He bounced back from a one-year suspension in 2005 to start 24 consecutive games for coach Steve Spurrier. General manager Bruce Allen said he likes Boyd’s production.

I live in Columbia, SC and I have had the opportunity to see this kid develop and he is truly the steal of our draft. I think Gruden figured out after the Caddy debacle that you don't have to draft great running backs in the first round; just draft them out of the SEC. Graham, Darby and now Boyd. We have a very good RB situation and we haven't spent greater than a 7th rounder on any of them. Nice drafting Bucs!

btw - derek watson was a perrenial f@ckup and ended up playing for some JC before it was all said and done in his college career. Boyd is relatively straight-laced, SEC starter and I believe he will remind everyone of E Graham. You really should do your homework before mouthing off in a completely ignorant way.

I am extremely happy for Cory Boyd. I am a Gamecock fan and yes, I watched all day until his name was called. It is nothing like seeing someone who has had hard bumps in life, pick themselves up and make the best of it. I am so proud of Cory. I don't know him personally but I have followed his gamecock career and I believe that God has always had a hand on him. I further believe that God will keep His hand on Him and Cory will go far. When a young man put his Grandmother above himself, God can't do anything but bless him. God bless the entire family and thank you Grandmother for keeping a firm hand on him. It worked.

"I think Gruden figured out after the Caddy debacle that you don't have to draft great running backs in the first round; just draft them out of the SEC."
It really does seem to be that easy. Running back in particular is a spot where I don't doubt a guy just because he was drafted late, if at all.

Denver great Tyrell Davis was drafted in the seventh round of Georgia and and excelled running behind the Broncos alwasy great offensive line. The Broncos just plug in backs behin that line. What does that tell you. It all starts with the line.

Boyd should be a real asset to the team. He has a great work ethic & is dedicated. I also live in Columbia , SC not a gamecock fan ( go Gators). I have seen many of their games . he always gave 110%. I was very pleased to see him land in Tampa
