Rod Coleman still a possibility?
For what it's worth, Jon Gruden said this morning that the Bucs might not be done talking to former Falcons defensive lineman Rod Coleman.
After his release in February, Coleman soon began talks with the Bucs. But Gruden implied the sticking point in those talks was financial and not related to Coleman's health.
The oft-injured veteran would give a boost to the Bucs' thin front line, but considering his fragility, the Bucs probably aren't willing to pay handsomely.
We'll keep monitoring the situation for you.

I wouldn't mind having Coleman on the team. If we can get him semi-cheap (and even if we don't) and if he manages to stay healthy, this could be a fine pickup. He could be part of a great rotation on the D-line; this would also give Hovan a rest every now and then, something he really never gets now.

i think we should trade up to #8 and grab Sedrick Ellis
Posted by: DIllon | April 02, 2008 at 07:46 PM
First, if we're going after him we still we need to make sure its at bottom line price as its obvious that he's wanting too much. Secondly, DIllon you must be crazy to move up and take a DLinemen when we need a Corner(Mike Jenkins or Dominque Cromartie-Rodgers) more importantly. We need to focus on Receiver as well so moving up would be stupid as it would cost us a 2nd round pick which we can use to get Hardy(WR) from UI.
Posted by: Str8BucIn | April 02, 2008 at 09:12 PM
Str8bucin, it would cost alot more than a 2nd round pick, thus makes it even more rediculous to trade up. If anything, we should consider trading down into the early stage of the 2nd and collect either another 2nd or 3rd round pick.....depending who is there when we pick at number 20.
Posted by: Jesse | April 03, 2008 at 12:15 AM
For every good cornerback in the league, I'll show you a great defensive lineman in front of him. We should stick at 20 and take the other D-end from Clemson who played with Adams and should make a fierce pass rush for years to come. Either that or trade Miami for J Taylor since Adams can play either side of the line. WR and CB should be our focus after our D-line is secured; not before.

Good point, Kurt. Especially true in the Cover 2. Seems Bucs concerns are the same as everyone elses or Coleman would have already signed somewhere.
Posted by: Duane | April 03, 2008 at 09:55 AM
No doubt...add Coleman and a productive DE and it won't matter who's lining up at the corner positions because the QB won't have any time to throw. I like the idea of the DE out of Clemson too; they played very well together at Clemson and would be bookends for a long time.
Posted by: Skylar | April 03, 2008 at 11:29 AM
Does anybody have any Chucky dolls? I ruined mine last night while I was playing with it last night. I went a little crazy with the lubricant and all.
Posted by: Kurt | April 03, 2008 at 12:17 PM
kurt, we already have the DE who played opposite adams in college, his name is Charles Bennett....on a different note how long do think it will take for gruden/allen to sign Chris Henry?
Posted by: aaron | April 03, 2008 at 01:17 PM
kidding....Merling would be a good addition. i like him better than Harvey at DE.
Posted by: aaron | April 03, 2008 at 01:21 PM
Chris Henry won't be playing this year if this story has any truth to it. He faces a 1 year suspension.
Posted by: DR | April 03, 2008 at 01:31 PM
Get Chris Henry he is inocent

"They played very well together at Clemson and would be bookends for a long time."
"We should stick at 20 and take the other D-end from Clemson who played with Adams and should make a fierce pass rush for years to come."
Typical Bucs fans...repeating what they hear from so-called experts. It's like I'm watching NFL Network and Mike Mayock all over again. Sheesh, were's the originality in your opinions? Quit copying what others say and create your own intelligent comments. If you guys truly came up with these quotes then why the hell don't you even know the Clemson player's name? Huh? Ya, I thought so.
Posted by: James | April 03, 2008 at 02:29 PM
If we trade up it should be for a OT - either one from Vandy or Michigan. Our O-line would be set for ten years and make good skill position players great.
Posted by: arun | April 03, 2008 at 02:37 PM
Amen, James.
Posted by: DR | April 03, 2008 at 02:49 PM
uh, that would be Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson.
Posted by: JC | April 03, 2008 at 03:01 PM
Man, oh man! I love me some weiners!!!
Posted by: DR | April 03, 2008 at 06:09 PM
Wow, how many gerbals did it take to get your wheel turning James? This isn't rocket science. Eveybody knows the kid is available and that he should be there at the 20 pick. Who cares what his name is! We need more pass rush and the two (he and Adams) have played together before so its a natural fit.
BTW - with all your bantering and bad mouthing others you forgot to come up with a new idea also. Actually, you regressed back to the oldest idea in the Book; being a hypochrite.
Posted by: Kurt | April 03, 2008 at 06:40 PM
Yeah, and there goes Kurt with his third grade argument as usual. Have you ever brought anything to the table, ever? All you ever do is attempt to cut down another person and yet, you bring no insight, no knowledge, but just pure garbage.
Posted by: DR | April 03, 2008 at 07:09 PM
So if we get Rod Coleman, do you all still think we should get a DE? Because remember, we got back Kevin Carter and we only have 5 picks this draft. And we still desperately need a WR and CB and perhaps a QB of the future (if McCown isn't it). So should the Bucs be willing to get Philip Merling at 20 considering the fact that Mike Jenkins (the USF corner Kiffin likes) probably won't be available in the second round? At present, I don't think DE is a very pressing need. There will probably be a good DE we could get later in the draft or, at worse, in next year's draft.
Posted by: An Intrigued Bucs Fan | April 03, 2008 at 08:16 PM
If Mike Jenkins falls to 20 we should take him over any of the B+ WR in this draft. The joey galloway clone wr from Houston could be a good second round or even third round. I've always liked Merling for our team (long before Mayock). Why in the world would we sign Chris Henry? Is Bryant not enough trouble? Chris Henry is this year's Pacman. The bengals simply gave up on him. I'd rather have clayton than him.
Posted by: BF | April 03, 2008 at 10:09 PM
why are some people listing Coleman as a DE? Is he not a DT? He weight 300 pound. The Era of big DE is over!... If we have a thin front on the defense why bring a thin DT that most likely will be injured. That would be dead salary cap. BTW does anybody have and idea where is our salary cap at after all of our signings?
Posted by: JS | April 03, 2008 at 10:13 PM
Jesse I was referring to the comment that someone else made about moving up to draft a D lineman. I think we should get another experienced lineman to go in the rotation and start preparing for our furter at CB and WR.
Posted by: Str8BucIn | April 04, 2008 at 12:07 AM
i say we grab sam baker, LT from USC at #20. Luke is busted. when was the last time we had a true left tackle? one who could run AND pass block? long time ago...Paul Gruber. it is about time we draft high for the most important position on the OL. A good wr and cb can be had in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th rounds. maybe James Hardy, wr, Indiania in the 2nd. Dwight Lowery, CB, SJSU, in the 3rd and trae williams in the 4th. Lowery played cover two in college and came away with 13 INT's in two years, ball hawk. and williams would be a good pick up in the 4th. we know what he can do. he was overshadowed by jenkins at usf but is a talent himself.

DR, I bit@hslap you for fun and you know and hate it. Sorry, but it is what it is. As for never bringing anything to the table, well, what would you know about that anyway?
However, I digress and pose a couple of questions to all of you who have a brain. Has anybody ever noticed that every player from the "Dungy" coaching tree also comes from the "Kiffin" coaching tree? And furthermore, doesn't the coordinator have the most say in picking his staff? I wonder how many coaches have moved on to better jobs under Dungy vs. Kiffin since he left the Bucs (and who the current prospects are also.) This is in no way shape or form an indictment on Dungy as I think he is a great coach/person; it's just more of an acknowledgement of Kiffin's incredible job performance. We are very lucky that he really likes it in Tampa.
Also, I can't wait to see how dominant our defense is going to be with the new rule concerning the communication devices in the defenses' helmet! Do any of you see some great advantages of having Kiffin in the head of our defense all game long?
...and that was just off the top of my head di@kweed DR. Go blow your Romo doll while Ken (i.e. Jerry Jones) watches, loser.
Posted by: Kurt | April 04, 2008 at 09:43 AM
Marinelli, Tomlin & Barry right off the top for Kiffin (& Morris soon to be!) And those were all a few years after Dungy left. I'm not sure about Dungy, but I imagine he's had a few move on to better jobs too. I do agree with being happy we have Kiffin though.
Who will be wearing the helmet with the device...Ruud?...Jackson?...Barber?
DR appears to be projecting himself onto others again.

Awwww, Kurt's feelings are hurt. Keep telling yourself what you want to hear. It's not healthy to do that, but if I were you, I would do that.
I like how, again, you're giving credit to Kiffen rather than Dungy. Dungy brought Kiffen here to establish what is now called the Tampa 2. Who cares if Kiffen's guys are doing better than Dungy's guys or vice versa. The fact of the matter is Dungy is the best coach Tampa has ever had. He took this team from the bottom of the sewer and made them into a contender, and his record speaks for itself. He went on to greener pastures in Indy and has succeded there as well and won a Super Bowl, and he has done everything with class and through the hardest times a father and coach can go through. Yeah, you can argue that Indy not winning a Super Bowl every year can be considered a failure but the AFC is tough and great teams come out of the AFC. The only team that won Super Bowls every year practically looks pretty guilty of cheating. The team before that, well, we all know who they were and how dominant they were. No need to go there.
Go back to thinking about another man playing with dolls. I mean, that seems pretty queer, but if thats what makes you happy, than so be it. Do your parents know you daydream of men playing with dolls?
Posted by: DR | April 04, 2008 at 10:49 AM
DR, you must have missed where, concerning Dungy, I said "...I think he is a great coach/person." Credit should be given where credit is due and Kiffin doesn't get any for developing coaches. Kiffin has done a phenomenal job here; making both Dungy and Gruden look good at times.
Furthermore, your inquiry concerning someone else's parents is considered a Freudian slip to all of us who are educated and intelligent. It appears it is you who lives at home isn't it? I'm just saying...
Posted by: Kurt | April 04, 2008 at 11:54 AM
DR, you're a numbnut; Dungy went 54-42 as the Bucs head coach while Gruden has gone 48-48. That's a six game difference in 6 years. Considering Dungy inherited Brooks, Lynch and Sapp to start his tenure here and that the Bucs hit the proverbial cap-hell wall in Gruden's second season, I would think neither has outdone the other (especially considering Gruden figured out how to beat the Eagles and win a SB.) I don't see anyone ragging Dungy here, but don't put him on some kind of pedestal because he did just a little better than average job. He inhereted Peyton Manning this time, so maybe he's just blessed. Vince Lombardi used to say, "I'd rather have a lucky team than a good one." Oh yeah, and Kurt's right about your Freudian slip.
Posted by: Skylar | April 04, 2008 at 12:11 PM
Freudian slip? You play with dolls? Man that's truly weird. Again telling yourself you're educated and intelligent. You sure don't seem have any football knowledge.
There's no question about Dungy being a great coach and a great person. To point that out is stating the obvious.
Kiffen is the face of the Bucs. Like I said he will be here as long as he wants to. With or without Gruden, Kiffen will do his job like he always has. It doesn't matter who the coach is. Kiffen's #1 defense won them a super bowl, not a #10 offense. Kiffen finally had an opportunity to go after some defensive players last year in the draft and the defensive players they drafted look to be promising. They're in good hands with a great teacher and leader like Kiffen. As far as offensive players being selected in the drafts of the past few years, there really isn't any promise. The promise that was there for some of their offensive players is now gone. Who's the Bucs offensive coordinator?
I'm just saying....
Posted by: DR | April 04, 2008 at 12:26 PM
No offensive draft choices with any promise? DR you are an idiot. Let's see here. MMMMMM how bout Davin Joseph? Aaron Sears? Trueblood? Alex Smith? Stovall?
