Bucs sign FSU's Hayes

Bucs players and coaches are taking a much needed break, but general manager Bruce Allen and his front office staff are working hard at locking up their rookies to long-term deals.

The team announced the signing of Florida State linebacker Geno Hayes this morning. Hayes was a sixth round pick by Tampa Bay, the 175th player selected overall in the 2008 draft. In three seasons with the Seminoles, he recorded 156 tackles, eight sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Hayes will have to battle to make the final 53-man roster, but if his speed and tenacity enables him to stand out on special teams, he has a pretty good shot to practice alongside his idol, Derrick Brooks, this fall.

Hayes is the third draft pick to sign with the Bucs, joining running back Cory Boyd, a seventh-round pick from South Carolina, and defensive tackle Dre Moore, a fourth-rounder from Maryland.

GENO!

Noel (Bahamas)

This is impressive them starting to lock up the draft picks this early. Too bad Amarri Jackson did not make the cut. Maybe he will be on the practice squad.

JS

I still believe Geno is better than all the other LB we signed. He and our two first year LB should make the roster. We need youth.

HAZE

JS you are very correct those 3 should make it your talking about Qincy Black Adam Haywood and Geno Hayes I really like Qincy Black he ran a 4.4 in the 40 yrd dash i did like amari jackson to but not over maurice stovall michael clayton and dont forget Antonio Bryant who i think will be our starter in spot 2 then you will see stovall and clayton both a 3 i think dexter jackson will get some nice plays in as a rookie i think he could have 2-4 Tds as a rookie thats alot considering on how many times they will pass it to him but watch out for him in year 2 i like bryant will have a great season with bucs and get signed to a 3-4 year deal after this season because after this season i dont no how long galloway has left in him so i think get dexter stovall clayton and bryant would be a good cor of recievers

Geno! I just want to post a shout out for Geno Hayes who is from Madison County FL, about an hour east of Tallahassee. We take our football seriously in Madison & the whole county is proud of what this young man has accomplished. I agree w/ the above posts also - we got some SERIOUSLY good young linebackers. I only worry about all of em being able to make the final roster. Fingers crossed there is room on the 53 man roster for em all.

Arun

Loved it when they picked him! I do hope Geno understands he is behind Brooks and June, the only way he makes the roster is as a special teams stand out. Hope to see him in pewter and red for many seasons. GO BUCS!

George

Yo HAZE,
1) Ever heard of punctuation?
2) It's Quincy, no Qincy
3) It's Hayward, not Haywood
4) It's "you're" for "you are", not "your"
5) No way A. Bryant starts
6) It's "know" not "no"
7) It's corps, not cor

Tim

hey George.. at least he didn't say " WE're fittin' to play some football"..
Lighten up...

aaron

The point was well taken though. Our young linebackers have the potential to be really good. Heyward, Black and Hayes. That is a good young core. Let us not forget that Ruud is only 23, Nece and June are only 27. That is solid. I would say we are pretty set there at LB. At safety we are set too. After one more draft we should be set at DT and DE...

billybobjoejerrytomfredsmith

Nece is at risk to not make the team

Skylar

Nece is excellent on special teams tough...

shane

nece's timee is up in tampa he never made the plays that were expected of him unlike what cato did cato will switch back to weakside when D-Brooks retires and by then we'll have a replacement for him on the stongside(its easier to replace cato than it is to replace derrick)

George L Hicks

I hope he is a diamond in the ruff. Maybe he could be another Derrick Brooks. As I look at our roster after the draft. I really hope that each player that they drafted and some of the free agents will make a difference. GO BUCS this yr.

Kurt

Nece will make the final roster (even if it's as a backup/special teamer. He's not been supplanted by anyone yet, although I hope Black or Heyward will take the strongside this year.
