Cox placed on I.R. again with torn ACL

For the second straight year, cornerback Torrie Cox will miss the season with a torn ACL in his left knee.

Cox, who was placed on Injured Reserve, played just four games last season before tearing the same ligament. It's the same injury Cox sustained during preseason in 2003, ending his rookie campaign.

He was injured during Saturday afternoon's workout.

Cox, 27, was competing for a job at the nickel cornerback spot and had been a contributor to special teams.

"It's a tough blow,'' coach Jon Gruden said. "We missed him last season. He really did work hard to come back and it's just a shame.''

Gruden said the injury occurred during a 7-on-7 drill. "It was just a simple break and turn,'' Gruden said. "He caught it in the turf, looked like. That's why you hold your breath when you're practicing.'

The Bucs suffered two more injuries Tuesday but they appeared minor. Running back Earnest Graham suffered an ankle sprain and tight end Ben Troupe suffered a blow to the head.

Sad. Work hard and get back next year, Torrie - we'll be pulling for you!

Yea, thats a tough pill to swallow for him. 2 yrs. in a row. hopefully he has built enough good will from the football gods to come back strong next year. I wish i knew who gave ben troupe the blow to the head. I hope it was T. Jackson doing his "I am going to lay out Dallas Clark" impression... welcome to the Bucs troupe, we sure aint no titans D.

That pretty much seals it for Cox, that many problems with the same knee is going to end his career. The Bucs have too much depth at CB and other teams don't want to take a chance on a moderately talented CB with a bum knee. At least he'll collect his 08 salary in full, something he wasn't extremely likely to do if he didn't get hurt.

man, he stays hurt like Cadillac.....

3 ACL surgeries in two years. hang it up Cox, it is waaayyy over for you.

Conman5669, you're a delightful fellow. Encouragement must have been your college major! Don't you remember what your momma taught you - "If you don't have anything nice to say...". Put it to use, please.

I personally don't think he was going to make the team anyway, but it still sucks (like Dave's posts!)

I have to agree with Kurt; Dave's posts suck!

Brandon...it was the opposite knee from last year.
