Garcia injures leg
Quarterback Jeff Garcia was injured Thursday during a non-contact passing drill. The extent of his right leg injury is unknown. (Watch audio slideshow)
Garcia seemed to be in some discomfort after rolling out and throwing a pass during a non-contact receiving drill.
He was carted off the field and limped precariously to the locker room.
Trainer Todd Toriscelli was attending to Garcia during the second half of Thursday's workout.
We'll update you on his condition after practice.
Also this morning, defensive tackle Jovan Haye sustained a possible groin injury and left practice.

Gruden caused this injury. It is all cause he wanted Favre. Actually, maybe Favre would be a good idea right about now.

word from pro foot ball talk is that Favre is heading to the vikings or the bears

This injury to Jeff Garcia makes it Easier for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take their consideration of Signing Brett Farve that much more seriously. We just might Bring the Super Bowl Home if this were to occur.

what this means is simms is not going to be a cowboy but the starting qb for your tampa bay bucs.
This irony here is wonderful. Gruden is going to have to put the bs aside and actually eat some crow here.

Do you think Brett Farve would be a good fit here with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? It may take some time to adjust, just seeing Brett Farve in another uniform other than the Green Bay Packers uniform. But it would be well worth it for the Bucs, in my opinion.

badmatty-
I wish that meant Simms would start, but if this injury is serious enough, Gruden will find playing time for Brian Griese some how. Why did we trade for him again?
Posted by: Dave | July 31, 2008 at 10:53 AM
Geez, whatever you do, don't put in Sniveling Simms... Waaa! Whine! Moan! Groan... Waaaaaah!
Posted by: Carol | July 31, 2008 at 10:53 AM
I read that they are paying Farve 20 million NOT to play. I won't play if they pay me 5 million.
Posted by: Carol | July 31, 2008 at 10:55 AM
For the last time...nobody cares about your stupid yahoo fantasy football league @sswipe! Neither injury appears to be season ending. I think Haye would be a bigger loss personally. Time for Greise to take off from his 11-5 record when he was here last. BTW - Why would Gruden have to eat crow if Simms started? He has never said anything bad about Simms, however, the same dignity cannot be given to Simms. Think about it...

Dave...the reason we acquired him again is because he played extremely well for us. In fact he has the highest winning percentage of any Buc QB to play at least a season's worth of games. Stop hating on the guy. He also the best QB rating of a Bronco ever...that's right, including Elway. The guy flourishes in the right system. That's why!

Wizdomheard, I'm not sure about Favre as a Buccaneer. But I do know that Garcia is the reason Gruden and Allen still have a job here. If this injury is serious, the Bucs are in big trouble. Griese gives us some chance because he's played well in this system, but he's still capable of the bonehead play once per game. McCown has the most talent out of all the QBs, Garcia included. But he's kind of a goober and has a Dilfer-like presence.
I've been opposed to Favre coming here because we have a Pro Bowl QB in Garcia. However, if he goes down, Favre would make short term sense. Let's hope Garcia's injury is minor.
Posted by: Tom | July 31, 2008 at 11:08 AM
Favre is way past his prime. How long would it take him to learn Gruden's offense? I would say pretty darn long. I don't want a Packer reject and God help us when we play the Packers, we have Farve, and we LOSE. We don't need Farve, or his baggage.

Lets just start Josh Johnson

I'm certain I read recently that Favre said playing for the Bucs is not on his wish list due to the extreme heat - he stated he preferred extreme cold, which he is used to.. Makes sense to me, and we need to stop wishing for what we don't need and won't get. I hope Garcia isn't badly hurt, as I think he's our best bet.

Kurt may not be the most tactful soul, but he’s right Mr. Unsigned: the fantasy football advert is annoying and misplaced.
Favre will end up with the Vikes or Bears if he doesn’t turn down the annuity gift that the Packer’s have proposed to him. My guess is he’ll opt to suit up. As for the Bucs, Griese’s done it for us before. He can do it again if needed. That’s why they picked him up.

Wizdomheard:
How can you call yourself "wise" if you can't even spell FAVRE's name? He's only been in the NFL for 16 years so it isn't like you can claim ignorance... well I suppose you could.
Posted by: Brandon | July 31, 2008 at 12:13 PM
Griese has done it for us before? Done what, thrown game changing INTs and played terribly when he needed to play his best? We may have been 4-1 with Griese out there in 05, but that was despite Griese, not because of him. He did his best in the Viking, Lion and Packer games to lose for us... and against the Jets he was succesful. Griese blows and if Garcia can't go McCown is clearly the next in line.
Posted by: Brandon | July 31, 2008 at 12:16 PM
fire Todd Toriscelli he is a lousy trainer. I don't know another team in the league who finished last year with as many players that were playing hurt and as many players who were on injured reserve(we had at least 14 the last time I checked) and now we begin training camp with injuries to Joey Galloway, Jeff Garcia, Jovan Haye, Torrie Cox, Ben Troupe, is theere anyone else that I am missing? This is getting ridiculous and it is time to find the root of the problem and remove it(Todd Toriscelli). If he keeps his job then we might as well bring a hospital staff(complete with a surgeon) to sit on the sideline to take care of our injured players.

All i could say is that i hope this injury isnt serious. If it is. i see another 2006 year all over again. I like Garcia as our starter right now ( if hes not injured) but damn, what happened to the good old days when we use to keep a QB for more than a year or two?
Posted by: Yoshi | July 31, 2008 at 12:29 PM
Shane, how does a trainer prevent concussions, ACL tears, etc? Do you have some patented way of training a brain not to sustain a concussion? The ACL is a very small ligament that is susceptible to injury. How do you prevent a 300 lb lineman to fall on the knee? That has got to be the dumbest thing I have ever read. And I've read some really stupid post on this site.

Forget Favre, I'm grabbing my stuff and running out the door to go to Orlando.
Posted by: David | July 31, 2008 at 12:38 PM
I don’t disagree with you Brandon, by “Griese’s done it before” I mean manage a game after a QB has gone down. He’s clearly not going to do too much more than that.
And Tom is right, the trainer has zero to do with players getting injured. He has more responsibility in the conditioning and rehab/post injury arena. Every team deals with injuries such as these.
Posted by: Steve L | July 31, 2008 at 12:39 PM
Brandon...fyi...after taking over for a injured Chris Simms (first injury) Greise compiled an 11-5 mark as the starter for the Bucs. That's what is meant by "Greise's done it before." He had a 97.5 QB rating in the 11 starts of 2004 with 20 TD's and in 2005, despite being sacked 12 times in those first four games threw 7 TD's. Those are good numbers regardless of what you want to act like you know. You may want to check your stats before making ignorant statements. And btw, Favre leads the league in INT's, yet he is arguably the best QB ever. Greise throws picks because he's trying to make plays; just like most good QB's. Give him some credit for being a good QB in the West Coast and Bucs offense. he also owns the Broncos all-time QB rating (over Elway!) Don't be a blind hater.
Posted by: Kurt | July 31, 2008 at 12:54 PM
Griese is capable of doing some pretty good things in this offense. However, it's the one or two mistakes that he makes that kill our team. His INTs usually results in a pick 6 for some reason. If he can eliminate those errors, he is pretty solid. As a backup.

I hope that Garcia's injury is not serious, but you Tampa fans would be lucky to get someone like Favre. He is excitement itself and it would be nice for him to have fans who appreciate him. Not like the fickle fans in GB and the horrendous GB management team. I am still hoping that a miracle happens and he returns to GB, but Tampa should count its lucky stars if you get him.

Well Lets See whast the other QB's can Do without Garcia in practice Now. This will give all the QB's practice Greese,Simms,McGown,& Rookie Johnson. I just have a Question. What If Chris Simms shows his stuff again. Will be Garcia Backup Now, and No Trade.Does this sound a Possibility!

Farve, Farve a Super Bowl ring awaits you. All you have to do is sign with Jon-Jon and the Bucs and the ring is yours on February 1st, 2009.

I here so many say they dont want favre,or favre couldnt do anything for the buc's,but there are some who are saying oH!I hope its chris simms,or OH!I hope its greise.are you kidding me.these guys can take the team somewhere more then favre could?some must not care if the buc's have a winning year,or not.because it wont happen with simms,or greise.at least garcia can get the buc's to the play-offs.thats probably about it though.

It would take not only Garcia going down but also Griese, McCown and possibly Josh Johnson too before Gruden would put Simms on the field.
Notice that Gruden mentioned Josh Johnson BEFORE he mentioned Simms.
Simms is getting no reps and no attention. His 15 minutes of fame are over. Get over it.
