Bucs getting back to work

The Bucs get back to work this afternoon when they return to training camp this afternoon for their last four day days at Disney.

Tampa Bay had Sunday off after Saturday night's preseason victory at Miami. They are scheduled to practice once today, twice Tuesday and Wednesday and once Thursday. After Thursday's morning practice, camp breaks and the Bucs will head back to Tampa for good.

Among the things we're hoping to learn today are the statuses of quarterback Jeff Garcia (calf) and receiver Joey Galloway (groin). Galloway is one week past his target date for returning to practice. Both players skipped the trip to Miami.

Check back this afternoon for up-to-the-minute updates.

Tom

Did anyone notice Gruden and Simms slapping high fives on the sideline like they're old buddies?

JScott

They apparently shared a hug as well.. Simms will be traded by weeks end, ha!

Jay

They called me Mr. Glass...

Jim

How about I go all Skip Bayless on you guys.. Chris Simms isn't going anywhere, I'll bet he suits up for TB this year... mark it down, I said it.

DR

Chris Simms wil suit up for Tampa....The Tampa Bay Storm that is.

Michael

Dr, I thought he was going to your Cowboys. LOL I wouldnt be supprised if they keep him, but I also wouldnt be supprised to see a trade.

DR, Dietz is soooo much better then Simms.

CVal

If Simms got to work out with the first line offense, it wouldn't take long before he challenges for starting job. But, Gruden's EGO won't allow it and certain posters egos won't support it. It surprises (Michael pls note spelling) me that "fans" would rather cut a player down that shows talent and heart than try to field the best team possible. Why is that?

NINJA

Hey!!! I just heard we might be getting Brett Favre!

Jim

I strongly disagree with your assertion about Gruden's ego and Chris Simms. I personally think that if Simms is ready to go, he will be on the Bucs roster unless someone offers something completely awesome for him. Not many teams can boast having 3 different quarterbacks that have won under the current coach on the roster. McCown is the odd man out, even though he has all the physical tools, he's got Rob Johson written all over him. McCown has had the most pressureless time here and ample time to get better, if he was gonna do it, he would have.

Jim

Exactly my point.. the relationship didn't seem so broken then did it?

I like Simms' arm strength and his toughness. However, he has zero mobility and terrible pocket presence. He can't seem to step up in the pocket to avoid the rush and open a passing lane. That's why he gets so many balls batted down. Simms is a good backup but is not anywhere near an elite type of QB.

Jim, I like what you said about McCown (Rob Johnson)`. All tools, no brain.

TB is playing the Pats this weekend. Will Coach Gruden play subs most of the game to evaluate them or will he rest the regulars like he did before last years playoffs to prevent injuries? It is, after all, a meaningless game to TB.

Valrico Rick

You can mark the Saints game down as a loss because Gruden will "rest" them up and they will be rusty and unprepared to play in the season opener. It happens every year. Has Gruden actually won a season opener since he has been here?

shane

hey rick remember Caddy's rookie year? Um I think the Bucs started off 4-0 so yes JG has won a season opener. Honestly man how can you forget the 73-yard run of Caddy's at the end of the fourth on a play that was supposed to just keep the clock running for the Bucs to win? You must not watch football let alone ESPN cause that play was one of the top ten plays that week and I do think it was the number one play.

DV

The #1 play? Well.... that must be Grudens' fault!!! (oh wait...) LOL

Josh

i think that right now the bucs have to trade simms because this is the last year of his contract and i dont think he wants to be back here(thats obvious) so they need to either trade him or if they think he can start next year they need to sign him to an extension or else he is just taking up roster space and salary

tradewinds loser boy moser

the bucs would have been better with favre

shane

oh i just remembered rick didn't the bucs start 2-0 the year after they went to the SB? so that brings JG to two season opening wins

Nick

Consider this, if McCown and Griese got all the reps prior to the game and didn't look that great, imagine how much better Simms would have looked if he had gotten reps. Simms looked great considering he hasn't been on the field in nearly 2 years and missed OTA's and Mini Camp to boot. Letting go of Simms is a big mistake. he's the best QB on the roster at this point!!
