Favre talking to Bucs, multiple reports say

The Bucs are talking to Brett Favre about the possibility of a trade to Tampa Bay, according to multiple reports.

One Green Bay outlet is calling the talks "serious," adding a deal could be consummated soon. Favre has spent the day talking with Green Bay officials but seems to have failed to reach a resolution that will allow him to play for the Packers.

If that is the case, the next option the team planned to explore was a trade. The Bucs are in prime position to swing the deal, provided Favre is amenable to playing in Tampa Bay -- something that isn't yet known. Tampa Bay has adequate cap space to accommodate Favre's $12-million salary. The Bucs also could handle rejection by Favre because they have experienced quarterbacks in place if he chooses not to report. The Jets, the other reported suitor, is in a much less favorable cap situation that would require them to clear cap space to take on Favre's salary.

Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy is scheduled to have a 6 p.m. news conference. Bucs general manager Bruce Allen is unavailable for comment. He is out of town because of a previously-scheduled meeting unrelated to Favre, team officials confirmed.

Asked this morning about Favre, Bucs coach Jon Gruden tried to deflect the Favre talk, telling the St. Petersburg Times "I love all these reports. I enjoy reading them."

Favre met with Packers officials earlier today and said the sides were deadlocked.

"We're at a stalemate," he said. "Mike (McCarthy) and I both agreed last night that me being out there is a distraction and will continue to be a distraction. We all know the reason I'm here is because the commissioner reinstated me so we have a lot of things to figure out. It's simple and complicated, both at the same time."

As a season ticket holder for more than 20 years,Why do we even think about going for Favre ? We don't need him,the cost will be way too high. He is not worth big money AND draft picks, for what ? 1 year , maybe two ? If the Bucs do make this stupid move and don't win the Superbowl, it would be a huge waste and Gruden AND Allen should get their walking papers. If Favre is so great , why is Green Bay not wanting him back ?

Trust me guys, when you are in the fourth quarter and down by alot, you want this man in. He will lead your team to victory more times than not. And they will be spectacular and you will think the entire time while that ball is up in the air, "there is no way there is no way... there is OMG TOUCHDOWN" I cant tell you how many times I've cursed his name then jumped for joy. He is the best at his position that the NFC has seen for a long time.

What happened in green bay is that no one took him seriously. Which is evident if you actually read our newspaper every day. Then when they started to take him seriously, everyones ego's flared up.

Personally I am never going to root for the packers again. They betrayed us by putting themselves before the team by giving in to their egos. The team comes first has been said over and over... well it didn't this time. And for that the GM and Coach should receive walking papers. This is a blunder that should not go unpunished because as long as Brett is on that field, there is hope. Rodgers will go down. just a matter of when. and when he does, we dont have anyone to back him up. Plus he hasnt exactly proven himself and yet they keep giving him the name A-Rod (wth?) Anyways Brett is a constant unlike any that Tampa has known. 16 years waking up knowing he is going to play the next week is something thats kind of hard to describe. And this man usually plays at a level that is beyond other players.
