Petitgout suspension is steroid-related

Got a little more information on Luke Petitgout's suspension.

NFL senior vice president of public relations Greg Aiello tells us Petitgout will indeed have to serve a four-game suspension for -- it turns out -- a violation of the league's steroid policy. Petitgout is a free agent after his release on Saturday, so all teams were notified via Monday's daily personnel notice.

If and when Petitgout signs with another club, he will still have to serve the suspension. You can rest assured the Bucs caught wind of this before it was released, which played at least some role in the decision to part ways.

I think the Bucs should be commended on their stance that violent criminals, drug addicts, and law-breakers have no place on this team.

Matt

Wait for the Andy Pettitte excuse, I just did it to help with the recovery so I could get out there as soon as possible and help my team mates.

Tom

Do you think Posada would be playing for the Yankees today had it not been for his admitting to prior steroid use? I mean like don't you think he would be taking steroids right now and not be hurting enough to be playing right now?

Barry Bonds a $$ cheek

Steroids hurt!

Tony G

Hey Matt, are you saying that if you were paid 2 million dollars a year to play football and you needed to take steroids in order to get healthy, you wouldn't do it?? I don't blame any athlete that uses steroids to recover from injuries, the fact that it is a banned substance in most sports is just a fact and when caught players get suspended, simple as that. Taking steroids does not make them bad people.

CVal

Adam are you being sarcastic? If not, have you looked at the roster lately? Ahem! Leopards rarely change their spots and a man's true nature can't be hidden forever. The serpent bites at the worst possible time, too. If Luke was a healthy 1st stringer, guarantee ya he'd still be on the team.

Kurt

it was definitely the final nail in the coffin.

Meathead

Steroids are safe and very effective. A few fraile people psychologically get hooked on them and use too much then the drugs get a bad name. What a joke. He should receive a raise for trying to better his body and his self.

DR

CVal is right. If Petitgout wasn't wearing a tampon all the time, he would still be on the roster. Failing a steroid test is far less of a crime than pushing last night's dinner in on an innocent female who didn't want it. I know Pittman is gone but at least he put his team first. Instead of possibly breaking his hand on his wife's face, he decided to run her over with the hummer. Tampa needs more team players like Pittman.

This is what NFL teams do. They mask your urine while they feed you steroids, and then as soon as you become unproductive they stop masking your urine. The next thing you know you are without a team, without a pension, and without any basic skills to join the job force. Don't blame the players, blame the pig owners who jack up ticket prices every year so they can constantly rip off both the fans and players who devote endless time and money to the game they love.

ToddsBucs1

I like what Tony G had to say.Good job.

Alex

Just make performance enhancing drugs mandatory. They can be taken safely if a doctor is supervising.

BUC-N-A

Mike I have to say that what you said is probably the dumbest comment I have ever heard in my life. I'm curious who did your investigating for you to find this incredible evidence. Would it be the same guys in Georgia who found Big Foot last week? Do you also have evidence that there was a second shooter in the grassy knoll. Maybe some negatives of pictures taken at Area 51. It's obvious the guy was trying to get back in the line up so he tried to take the steroid route. Honestly can't blame him, if i was getting paid millions to play this game or any really I'd seriously think about it. He tried and got caught, no conspiracies.

George L Hicks

I was very please to see what I saw this past sunday. Espically what that offensive line did in the first half. I am glad that Tampa got rid of that veteran lineman. Now they should get rid of stevens next. I thought that all the QB"S did very well. I hope that Simms will going to a new home because it will be very hard because Tampa is solid at QB.

Matt

Tony G, I get your point and given the very light penalties for being caught, I completely understand why so many people do this. They are however using a banned substance that enhances performance and as such are cheats. Cadillac seems to be recovering from his injury without failing any steroid tests - knock on wood.

Matt

What annoys me is the phony excuses.

I'd love it if Luke announced in a press conference that taking steriods made him recover 3 months faster, which made a 4 week ban completely worth while - and he'd do it again in a heartbeat if given the chance.

BUC N A HATER

Wow, Buc-N-A, you seem to be a very angry man. I see you like to sound off on people on these blogs. One question for you, why are you always responding to these in the middle of the night? Must be a lonely man waiting for your man to come home. Hope things get better for you and you aren't so angry anymore. Just face it the bucs are a bunch of criminals.

Will Ferrell

Less steroids, more Cowbell.

Mike

BUC N A- I heard it first hand from a former NFL offensive lineman (not Petitigout). I won't disclose his name or his former team because when he told me we were talking as a friend and I'm no journalist so it was definately off the record.

Just don't believe everything you hear about the NFL being this utopian sports league where there is perfect parity, rules, officiating, treatment of players, etc. and don't be so fast in judging a vet like Petitigout. The NFL is just as crooked if not more so than the NBA and MLB.

Maybe you are right maybe this was a desperate move by a desperate man but it seems more likely to me that a vet like Petitigout isn't out for the starting position as much as he is his long-term security. The Bucs certainly found a convenient way to release him at this point in his career. I hope he has a good lawyer when the NFL now tries to void his severance, pension, benefits, etc. for illegal steroid use when they've at the least turned their backs to it (if not actively participated in it). Dope in sports permeates not just the locker rooms, but the business strategies of the people who sign the player's salaries.

Don't call me stupid just for questioning what I read. If you think the NFL owners and trainers play by the book 100% of the time And if you think a Russian like Oswald killing a the first Catholic president and a staunch anti-Communist in the middle of Texas was just a coincidence the spooning you've been forced down your throat is obviously effecting your head.

Mike, I am not naïve enough to believe any sports league is this utopian world of perfection. Yet I have seen enough players, star players who are in their prime getting caught using performance enhancing drugs to seriously doubt your statement (i.e. Shawne Merriman). I simply didn’t agree with you saying this as a statement of fact. And to be honest I do not believe that you have a friend that you can not mention who told you this privately. So let’s just agree to disagree about it. As far as the grassy knoll and Area 51 comments I am way too young to have a serious conversation with you about either. I was actually just joking around and they are the only good conspiracy theories I could come up with. I attempt to make them funny, for me they are. The only reason I even started this stupid blogging thing recently is because I just got fed up with all of the people who do it. For the most part the majority of them just do it because they want to be a*#holes and piss people off or just to see their name on the net. But I do have to say I am happy that I have a big fan one who really admires my work enough to name herself after me, BUC N A HATER. I responded to this blog originally at 7pm, is that late for you? As far as my other blog or two that has been around 2 AM, just the opposite of lonely. I was just getting home from a night out at the bar with friends. Checking what I missed in the sporting world. It’s all good though. By the way, the BUC’s may be a bunch of criminals, but so is the rest of the league. Hell we look like a bunch of alter boys compared to some teams.
