Was suspension looming for Petitgout?
You already know the Bucs released tackle Luke Petitgout on Saturday.
Now, it appears the move might have been prompted by something other than his bum knee.
According to CBSsports.com, the NFL recently decided Petitgout will be suspended for the first four games of the season. The report cites an unnamed source.
Not going to speculate here, but the most likely reasons for a league suspension are for violations of the substance-abuse, steroids or personal-conduct policies. Petitgout hasn't run afoul of the law, to the best of my knowledge, so that perhaps narrows things down.
Either way, the Bucs appeared to be trying to cut their losses as they almost certainly knew about the still unannounced suspension.

Who cares lets get some reports about cadilic.Or anybody else still on our team.

No, great job, this is a blurb that would go unnoticed by all but the prying eyes of "SP BLOG"!!!

He was a dope smoking twinkie, just like all the bucs. Suspend the whole team.

Mr. Holder, I heard on "NFL Live" that Anquan Boldin is yet again disatisfied with his contract. He's only going to make $2million this season. He claims they lied to him. Go tell Allen to sign this guy!
Posted by: Vince | August 19, 2008 at 12:56 AM
Vince, what position would you have Boldin play? Flanker? Slot? Because he wants to be #1 no matter what, and to be honest, Gruden isn't going to give up on Galloway or Bryant that easy. Even in a 2 WR set, Boldin doesn't block like Clayton, and doesn't have Dexter Jacksons' raw speed, or Ike Hilliard's route running and hands. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a top 10 WR, but he wouldn't fit here with the current roster.
Posted by: Jay | August 19, 2008 at 02:06 AM
Uh yeah, the Bucs already have too many "top 10 WR's" on the roster?
Clayton would barely fit in the 'top 100 WR's' category.
Posted by: jason | August 19, 2008 at 03:02 AM
Jay,while I admire your enthusiasm, Jason has got a point. Our receiving "corps" has got to be the weakest link of a pretty deep team overall.
While Mr. Boldin (unsatisfied yet again!) may not be the answer, we need to get more competitive with the WR position to make it beyond the 1st round of this years playoffs.
Posted by: King | August 19, 2008 at 04:35 AM
Boldin would definitly be our #1 if he was here. Come on now, i love joey but boldin would be a huge upgrade.
Posted by: aaron | August 19, 2008 at 06:18 AM
Why does everyone want to sign every disgruntled player on other rosters? It was Johnson, Henry, now Boldin. How come we didn't sign Moss??
Posted by: joe | August 19, 2008 at 06:30 AM
The only reason Boldin is upest is that AZ redid Larry F's contract to around 10 million a year. He will be fine after this year when he leaves AZ. I would sure like to see him as a Buc.
Posted by: scott | August 19, 2008 at 07:01 AM
Boldin wouldn't fit here??? Why, is he too good to fit in with a bunch of scrubs at the WR position? Boldin has more talent than all of the Bucs WRs combined. Boldin doesn't need an open field to break away, he can make plays and break tackles. The Bucs should do anything they can to get him. If Gruden is worth 2 first round picks, than Boldin is worth 10. Do what you gotta do to get a legit WR.
Posted by: DR | August 19, 2008 at 08:27 AM
Ok, lets get real. Getting someone like Boldin would be way too much of a splash play and the Bucs dont do those unless there is an old overatted QB to get. But i am really getting worried about Joey. This groin injury has to be serious for him not to play at all yet. Even if he comes back, if he is even 1 step slower we are finished. And even if he comes back 100%, if a groin injury keeps him out this long, what happens during the reg. season when injuries pile up? We need to stop playing around and get someone good because Joey wont be the same this year!

On a totally unrelated note, i was watching the pats game and they talked about how Garcia wanted an explanation about the favre thing and Gruden told him to talk to Allen -- and that talk hasnt happened yet! Look, i was on the "just play out your contract fool!" bandwagon when he was crying about his contract earlier, but this is insane. Its not enough to 1) NOT pay him what he wants, 2) NOT pay him what he deserves (a little more $$ to keep him happy -- but you also have to NOT be man enough to look him in the eye and say "look, it was brett favre, we had to try. Anyone else and we wouldnt have even thought about it!". Thats all he wants, he understands that we had to make a play for Favre. IF YOUR NOT GOING TO PAY HIM, ATLEAST TALK TO HIM AND BOOST HIS EGO!!! THIS MAN IS SUPPOSED TO LEAD US THIS YEAR!

Anyone that thinks that we shouldn't go after Boldin IF (that's a big IF) he is available is a complete idiot. The Cardinals aren't going to move him this year, but if there is any shot GO GET HIM. Joey and Bryant on the edges with Boldin in the slot sounds pretty good to me.
Posted by: Jason | August 19, 2008 at 09:53 AM
Jason - while I agree that Clayton is far from a dominating WR, Gruden loves having him on the field for running plays because he's a crushing blocker akin to Keyshawn or Hines Ward. You've seen his offensive playcalling in the past, and he's a "run first" guy and the passing game is an afterthought. It really makes no sense to make a move for someone like Boldin because he's just going to be unhappy with his numbers and his assignment. You're better off farming your own talent through the draft, or doing the reclamation project thing they do every year. I've said it in the past, and I still believe that Bryant will be the #1 by the end of the season. That means you can have role players elsewhere and not suffer.

I don't recall Galloway ever playing in the first two preseason games anyway. Anybody ever stop to think that he's just resting for the real show? He has been out there all camp long catching passes and running routes, so what's everybody in a tizzy about; he's fine. Boldin is a very good receiver, but as usual, you embellish your ignorance to a tee DR. And he is injury prone, let's not forget.

I agree with Worried...and Mad.
Garcia always gets treated like a Mexican gardener that's makes your whole garden bloom and then want to pay him pennies on the dollar. But, once he leaves and the garden starts to die and wither. That's when they realize exactly what they have lost by then it's to late. He moves on to make another garden bloom somewhere else.
The Raiders treated Jim Plunkett the same way. He took the Raiders to 2 superbowls and they barely paid him well. He can't even get mentioned or into the HOF.

Hey, LastWalshPick, What about those gardens in Detroit and Cleveland? Those weren't very rosy were they? How dare you use illegal mexican labor as a metaphor for being paid the exact amount that you signed a contract for. I believe Garcia signed knowing full well what he was going to make. He also knew he'd be the starter. Nobody else wanted him and we got him on the cheap; simple supply and demand. Now dignity is the only thing that separates us from the rest of the animals, so he should honor his contract. He'll get a pay raise by the start of the season if he can get on the field I bet. Griese's just as good in this offense anyway; better from what I've seen thus far and in the past. I'm just sayin...

CVal is right. If Petitgout wasn't wearing a tampon all the time, he would still be on the roster. Failing a steroid test is far less of a crime than pushing last night's dinner in on an innocent female who didn't want it. I know Pittman is gone but at least he put his team first. Instead of possibly breaking his hand on his wife's face, he decided to run her over with the hummer. Tampa needs more team players like Pittman.

Hey Kurt,
In Cleveland, Coach Butch Davis never played to Garcia's strengths. Everytime Garcia tried to make a suggestion to him about his abilities or suggetions about certain plays. Butch's reaction would always be the same, " You shut your mouth Jeff and let me coach. How can you play for a team like that when the coach is not listening to your suggestions and doesn't believe in the West Coast system. Butch Davis hated the West Coast system.
And in Detroit, Mooch believed and trusted Garcia. But the players there did not want to study the playbook, didn't care at all. Mooch and Jeff both said they were all muscle but no brains.
That's why as soon as Garcia left there and went to Philly who plays like the Niners, and Tampa Bay. He's been very successful. So successful in fact that Garcia almost took over McNabb's starting job. I have videotapes of the NFL network saying that the players and fans of Philly loved Garcia more than McNabb.
That's why Andy Reid had to get rid of him because Marty Morninweg and Jeff Garcia made a better impact than Reid/McNabb they were both afraid of losing their JOBS.....
So I say not bad for a Mexican Gardener.
Hello, it's a metaphor.....
Jeff Garcia has the toughness of a Mexican Boxer i.e... Margarito, Chavez...They never give up just like Garcia.
Just ask Cotto he is still recovering from his beating. Jeff just applies it to a different sport.
Trust me guys I have tapes of almost all of Garcia's games, from every team he has been on. I have analyzed every one of them. And when they play to his strengths and play the system he's use too he does great things and most importantly wins GAMES!!!!!
Posted by: | August 19, 2008 at 06:31 PM
And Another thing Kurt,
Yes Jeff signed the contract but he also wanted to earn his 2 Million dollar bonus. And yet Tampa Bay did not honor it they refused to let him play in the last game to get that bonus.
Hmmm....pilgrim speak with fork tongue. Pettigout signed contract too and only played for four games shoots up steriods and still gets his bonus why not Jeff?
I've been watching football for 25 years and I rarely see players get shafted the way Garcia does. Especially being a four-time probowler and taking 3 different teams to the playoffs.
What say you Kurt?
Posted by: The LastWalshPick | August 19, 2008 at 06:40 PM
That's just stupid rhetoric LastWalshPick. If Garcia hadn't stuck his head in the pile on the first series of the Washington game and gotten HIMSELF hurt, he would've reached all his incentives. And don't forget that he single-handedly lost the Detroit and Jax games. Obviously Pettigout had it in his contract that he'd get his bonuse either way moron. Garcia is a good QB and I like him, but he signed his deal and he should at least wait until he proves he can make it on the field before he whines and quibbles over money he missed because he stupidly went head first into a defensive pile.
Posted by: Kurt | August 19, 2008 at 07:04 PM
O.K. Kurt you call it stupidity. I call it guts, and trying to win the game. Bottom line is this is the only way the Bucs are going to win. Cause I see how sitting in the pocket worked for Simms. He has minus a spleen now....then cried like a baby for his job...
Posted by: The LastWalshPick | August 20, 2008 at 02:22 AM
The LastWalshPick, don't bother with Kurt. Gruden and Walsh could torture and murder garcia's whole family and they would be right for doing so in Kurt's mind. Anybody who doesn't see the fact that Garcia got screwed out of a bonus he truly earned is an idiot. Faulting garcia for trying to make something happen as a playmaker is beyond stupid. It's called a scrambling QB. Oh, but let's beg for that pocket passer who throws more INTs than anyone else.
