Looks like more Griese next week | Main | Gruden continues to deny Garcia rumors »

Galloway, Talib being evaluated

Bucs wide receiver Joey Galloway is getting evaluated after sustaining what the team called a foot sprain  Sunday against the Falcons. The Bucs expect to know more about his playing status on Wednesday, coach Jon Gruden said Monday during his weekly news conference.

Galloway left in the second half of the Bucs' 24-9 win and did not return. He was seen this morning hobbling around One Buc Place with the aid of crutches, an ominous sign heading into the week.

"At this point, there is some concern,'' Gruden said. "After we get the doctor's report, we'll let you know.''

Galloway, the Bucs' biggest deep threat, missed the entire preseason with a hamstring strain. If he can't play this week against the Chicago Bears, Maurice Stovall, who was inactive against the Falcons, will be available.

Gruden said the team also expects to know more about the extent of cornerback Aqib Talib's hamstring injury on Wednesday, though Talib said after the game he returned to the field briefly and did not fear the injury was serious.

Brian Griese appears to have earned another start at quarterback after going 18 of 31 for 160 yards and a touchdown in his first start for the Bucs in three seasons.

"We don't anticipate any changes at that position this week,'' Gruden said.

The role of quarterback Jeff Garcia, the Bucs' opening-week starter, "will be determined on a ''week-to-week basis,'' Gruden said.

Tight end Jerramy Stevens returns this week after being suspended the first two games for violating the NFL's Substance Abuse Policy. That means the Bucs will have to release a player from their active roster to make room. There is a chance that it could be another tight end, most likely Ben Troupe.

Asked about that possibility Monday, Gruden said only that there would be some tough decisions to make. That transaction could be made as early as today.

arent the bucs going to have to cut somebody to make room for Stevens? any guess as to who that would be?

I read Garcia was shopped to the 49er's but they aren't interested ... Sounds like the end of Jeff ...

If the bucs do better than 7-9 i'll run up dale mabry naked. No kiddin! No chance for the Bucs. Sorry guys

They should get Joey to man the card tables they had set up in the stadium trying to sell seasons tickets. I think we can assume the 100,000 waiting list may be confirmed now at 0.

Good quote by Talib that there were more people at the USF game, it looked like a pre-season game out there on Sunday.

Bottom level was 90% full, Club Seats were 30% full and the top deck would be lucky to have been half full.

I'm getting tired of Galloway. How much can you pamper someone with such limited results? He doesn't even try for the ball if he'll have to dive for it or take a hit. He also won't play hurt like everyone else does. Then again, Bryant catch a cold so maybe we need to just Clayton Stovall and Jackson and hope for the best. Oh, and pick a damn qb already.

I agree with Erik about Bryant...he can't catch a cold. Galloway is a pretty good receiver when he is healthy. We need to do some hypnosis on Clayton and Stovall so they can rise to the occasion.

Galloway needs some monostat.

Galloway out 2-4 weeks with a strained ovary.

Two years ago when Garcia helped out the Eagles afer McNabb got hurt he did a pretty good job, but they didn't want to keep him. The line on that was that McNabb had an issue and they didn't want a quarterback controversy distracting the team. And here we are again where Garcia plays well and the next year the team seems to be wanting to get rid of him. It sounds to me like there is something about Garcia's attitude off the field at play here, and I believe Aaron is right. Somebody has got to go. Wouldn't that just be a hoot if it was Garcia? Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey, Good Bye! Take the glass tiger with you!

It might be time to see what the Cards want for Boldin. I know that's a longshot, but we need more production out of our WR corps.

i agree we should go after bolden. maybe we can unload Dexter Jackson and a 4th round pick for Boldin.
Dexter just looks a bit scared. we never should have used a 2 on him. maybe a 4, but absolutly not a 2. we can re-sign spurlock to handle the return duties.
but in all reality, boldin is too good for Allen to go after, he is too expensive. unfortunatly allen doesnt get the big names.

We'd be better off unloading Garcia if Gruden won't play him, and Bennett if Carnell is coming back in 4 weeks.

Then stockpile those picks to make a run at QB Chase Daniel in the 2009 Draft.

The Cards are not going to trade a guy that just scored 3 times on the weekend.

Are you all too young to remember the Redskins from the mid to late 90's? Back when they basically tried to buy a championship. They were giving away everything to sign "superstars". The hilarity of it all was that they just kept getting worse every season.

Aaron, I'll say it again. You can only trade for the player if the other team is willing to deal a player for a reasonable offer. The Cardinals have no reason to give up Boldin. In fact, I'd bet that Boldin isn't even interested in going now that they are 2-0 and Warner is playing so well.

Dexter Jackson and a fourth round draft pick? That might be enough to get Boldin's autograph....

Hey DB...are you a guy or a girl? This is an important detail you know!

When is Galloway not hurt?!?

Boldin will cost at least two first round picks. He would be worth it, way more worthy than the last person the bucs gave up two first rounders for.
The Bucs should start cleaning house. Not to give up on the season but to get better and make a point. The Bucs should release or trade, if possible, Garcia and Galloway and leave it up to the younger guys to get the job done. Keep players that are trying to win. Garcia and Galloway are cancers.

it isnt about buying a championship bobbyd. we dont have a superstar wr. we arent about to go out and throw money at every big name player there is. that isnt what anybody on this site said. we are talking about one person. one person can make a huge difference. whether it be free agency, the draft or a trade. the one person we were talking about was Boldin. what we lack on this team is a start reciever. one who can catch, stay healthy, go deep and go across the middle. Boldin offers that. And he is young enough he wouldnt be just another band aid, like for instance if if ended up signing somebody like terry glenn. boldin would be a long term solution.
i dont think boldin cares if he is winning or not. he wants a contract like Larry Fitzgeralds. He is grossly under paid. he needs to be paid the equivalent of Fitzgerald. and the cardinals probably dont want to lock up all that money in two wr's.

We want Jeff Garcia to start next week! Jeff Garcia is the Bucs Quarterback

i wouldnt call galloway a cancer, but garcia i would. i dont think boldin would cost that much. i think our 2nd rounder (Dexter Jackson) and a 4th rounder would be good enough. The cardinals would need another wr and they all ready do need a return man. JJ Arrington is not cutting it. Hell if they wanted more i'd offer our 3rd round pick and Dexter.

Good for the bucs for giving Greg White a new deal. he deserves it.

aaron,
I agree with DR. The Bucs would probably have to give up 2 first round picks to pull off a trade for Boldin. That's not gonna happen, nor should it happen. It's just bad business sense. Why would the Cardinals ask for anything less? The guy had 140 yards and scored 3 touchdowns yesterday.

Here's the thing, you're right in that the Bucs don't have a "superstar" WR, but I'm not convinced that they absolutely must have one to win. What they need to have is a serviceable QB and some guys who can catch the ball for first downs. It would be nice to have a Tom Brady and a Randy Moss, but with the Bucs defense, and with the running game they've started to establish, I really believe they can do well. Superbowl? Who knows. No one really thought the Giants would win the superbowl last season.

What good would a Super Star reciever do for the Bucs? We need a QB that can complete long passes and "Crybaby Garcia" and "INT Griese" aren't going to do it. To bad the coach can't see that we seem to have a running game, oh and Warrick Dunn is a very good reciever out of the backfield.

Put Joey Galloway on IR to free up the roster spot & evaluate him next spring. Garcia needs to go play for Kansas City. Have Bennett run back Kickoffs. Get Clark, Hankton or Spurlock from the practice squad. And last be thankful that you still have cap room & you didn't spend a $$$ Billion like Jerry Jones on a Stadium that you don't need.

why throw away two first round picks? we r rebuilding. we need our 1st round pick to draft a qb.. and we could find a big name wideout in free agnecy. Chad johnson wants to be on a team with a good defense? we r the perfect fit. carson is playing terrible effecting his numbers but he is still a big name wideout and possibly a perfect fit to gain more money and media towards the bucs as well as add talent to the squad. Wait till the offseason. we r too young to think superbowl so big time trades right now would be dumb. save our draft picks because we need them

why would anyone want joey g. when he is hurt? And Garcia may get you a 5th round pick unless it is KC or Min.

why would anyone want joey g. when he is hurt? And Garcia may get you a 5th round pick unless it is KC or Min.

I'd love to see Stovall get more playing time.If used I think he'll be a great target. He made some awesome plays at ND.I refuse to believe he's lost that.USE HIM !!!!

Gruden needs to learn to be more patient with his young players. The one thing this organization needs is a franchise QB. We have the pieces in place to be great. But, we can't be great w/o a QB. Our young OL is a foundation for success in years to come along with EG and hopefully caddy can come back healthy. But, stubborn a** gruden will never use a 1st round pick on a QB because he loves to cherry pick these old hacks. He gets his rocks off on turning nobodies into somebodies. Hence Griese, Garcia, and now @ WR Bryant. Thats why we didn't get Brian Brohm instead of dexter jackson, and thats why Boldin is not on our starting roster. He wants age at the skill positions. This is why the Bucs win the division one year, and suck the next. Some Guru...

P.S. Thank God we have Kiffin as our defensive coordinator. Also, I would like to see gruden fired and Monte's son lane take over. The Glaziers love a family business

Robert,
I hope that was sarcasm about having Lane Kiffin take over. If not, it quite possibly might be the dumbest thing I've read here.

How about fire Jon G, make monte the coach, and hire a new offensive Cord.

Ok..I got it, this what we need to do. We need Anquan Boldin-- trade Michael Bennett, Galloway, and 1st round pick for him....lol Hey...sounds like a good trade to me, but actually I'd like to keep bennett and trade Cadillac, Galloway, and 1st round pick. Have Bennett do returns!!! Now...this is the way to go!!!!

They should keep Ben Troupe and release Jeremy Stevens. Just because he has finished his suspension doesn't mean they are going to keep him......I think Ben Troupe is a better choice.....
