Hamilton claimed by Bears
CB Marcus Hamilton played his first NFL game against the Bears on Sunday, filling in for the suspended Elbert Mack and injured Aqib Talib.
With his services no longer needed, he was promptly released by Tampa Bay.
He wasn't unemployed for long.
Hamilton was claimed off waivers by the Bears, who no doubt were impressed by Hamilton's relatively solid performance in Chicago.
It's great news for the 2007 seventh-round pick, who had spent all of his short NFL career on the practice squad before being promoted last week. Meanwhile, the Bucs get Mack back this week and hope Talib is healthy enough to play against Green Bay.

the saints need him.. jason david sucks!!!

Bucs tried to sneak him back onto the PS, but the Bears were paying attention.Too bad for us; good for Marcus.

Hamilton rocks. I hope he helps the Bears beat the falcons and the ain'ts which are still on their schedule.
Plus, how about dem Bucs!?!

I know it's early in his career, but Dexter Jackson looks like a complete bust.

Hmmm! Da crystal ball say D-Jax no bust. The Tarot cards say he destined for GREATNESS. Hester move aside, here come da D-Jax.

Everybody all being nice and stuff tonight. There must be secret meeting of the rippers, or they forgot how to logon. I look for the running game to crank back up against the Packers, and I think D-Jax is going to get to spend a little time at the wideout position. They need to move Bryant back to his natural flanker position and draw the Packers coverage away from D-Jax on the otherside. Although I wouldn't expect as much of an air attack against the Packers as last week, without Harris at the other corner there should be some "good looks", as Gruden calls them, in the passing game. Woodson is pretty good, but he tends to gamble and can be had, if you remember the Bucs had no problem with him back in Super Bowl XXXVII. I'm excited, are you excited?

Why not Rick, half their defensive backs are out,..not just Harris.

Swami, very happy and overly excited!!!

Green Bay should be a good test to see if the team is headed in the right direction. If they dominate and win this game, then the trip to Denver will look just as promising.

you guys seem to forget that Dexter Jackson didn't return kickoffs in college and only returned punts sparingly in college. He beat out Spurlock because he has game breaking speed something that no one else on this roster really has. Give him a chance to grow before you call him a bust. Besides they wanted to bring him on slowly. Finally don't forget that our return game has never been steller so why do we expect so much more out of it now?
Posted by: bucs fan 4 life | September 24, 2008 at 01:46 AM
Please! How many times are we going to hear that speed is all that is necessary on returns? Ronaldo Nehemiah was a bust and he was arguably the fastest guy to ever play football.
Clifton Smith showed me much more than Dexter Jackson has.

We dont have time to bring on D-Jax slowly. He was a second round pick. If you are picked in the 1st or 2nd round, you are pretty much counted on to produce immediatly. Hey, we got rid of a pretty good KR in Michael Spurlock to make room for this guy. Kevin Smith was available, Earl Bennett, Mario Manningham, Jamal Charles, Early Doucet, Steve Slaton, Andre Caldwell, Tashard Choice. Many people who really could have helped this team immediatly. but we chose Dexter. There is no time for slowly, the time is now. if we wanted slowly we could have picked him up in the 4th or 5th and put him on the practice squad. that is where he would benefit from being. right now all he does is dive to the ground.

Agree that D-Jax looks like a terrible pick. I called it after the draft when many others (as noted above) were availalble--including Brian Brohm. I have never seen anyone "slip" so much in the NFl. The kid just does not want to be hit by NFL players--so how does he play receiver--"catch and fall" Jaackson makes the catch etc.

DJAX does need to come up with a big run to quiet the critics. This BUCFAN is giving him more chance. One more game. This diving in the turf needs to quit.

Aaron, I'm with you on that one. There were so many good available players when we picked him in the second. The problem is that he hasn't showed me a single thing.
He had one game against Michigan and that was it. He looks like he's running scared and afraid of contact. He is a straight lined runner with no lateral agility.
Posted by: Tom | September 24, 2008 at 07:40 AM
It doesn't matter now who we "could have" gotten in the second round of the draft. I just want Jackson to stay on his feet, whether he is returning a punt or a kickoff. I mean, come on, once maybe twice I can understand slipping, but he has "slipped" nearly every time he touches the ball. It's enough to convince me he's scared (not that I wouldn't be, though give me his money and I'll at least fall forward). Get a guy back there that's going to drive it UP the field, which is exactly what Gruden did by replacing Jackson at the end of the game. Maybe it's time for "injured" reserve, and bring Spurlock back.
Posted by: Bill | September 24, 2008 at 10:14 AM
ha ha, I like that Bill "injured reserve". We need to get Spurlock back on the active roster. Put the guy in at wr and see what he can do. Heck there are a few wr's who do everything in their power not to get hit, like Marvin Harrison. Which is fine, it is not a knock on Harrison. He has had a great career. just send Jackson deep and hope he blows past the cb and safety. All i know is that as a returner he is a bust.
Posted by: aaron | September 24, 2008 at 10:45 AM
Aaron, I haven't seen Jackson run any kind of effective route either. He is a pure one way runner. His biggest knock coming out of college was his route running, and size, and accomplishments, and competition, and hands........
If speed was all you need to be a WR, Usain Bolt would be offered millions.
I know it's early but he just looks awful. What does it say when you're pulled anytime the ball has to be fielded close to your endzone?
Posted by: Tom | September 24, 2008 at 10:52 AM
It says bad scouting.
they should just send him on a deep route everytime, even if they dont throw to him, just to clear the field and open it up a bit.
Maybe we could swing a deal with the Raiders. Al Davis loves those fast wr's who cant catch.
Posted by: aaron | September 24, 2008 at 11:35 AM
Aaron, in a perfect world, that would work. But not one defense is going to be afraid of Dexter Jackson going deep. Look, there are a lot of fast WRs out there and if it were that easy, it would be done. Jackson doesn't scare anyone. Just merely running fast is not that impressive.
Jacquez Green was just as fast and look how that turned out. The difference is that Green actually did something on the college level.
