Mack suspended one game for hit on Ryan
Bucs rookie cornerback Elbert Mack has been suspended one game for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan Sunday.
NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations Ray Anderson issued the suspension Tuesday. Mack was suspended for Sunday's game at Chicago, without pay, for a flagrant violation of player safety rules, his second this season.
Anderson said Mack unecessarily launched himself into Ryan on a pass interception return play and made impermissable helmet-to-helmet contact.
Mack was recently fined $5,000 for an unecessary roughness penalty on Houston Texans quarterback Alex Brink.
In a letter to Mack, Anderson said, "Your actions are of particular concern in light of the emphasis that our office has placed on developing and enforcing rules designed to protect players from injury, including concussions. The safety of our players is paramount to all of us in the NFL.'
The timing of Mack's suspension could hurt the Bucs. An undrafted free agent from Troy, Mack may have seen playing time against the Bears because starting nickel cornerback Aqib Talib has a hamstring strain and may be questionable against the Bears.

Learn Mack, or I will have Bruce cut you also. And no son, Little Jonny G. will not save you. I run this world, not him.

Is that a league suspension or a team suspension? I thought the league fined first offense illegal hits, and second, and third?

Nevermind! Only the first paragraph was there when I pulled it up before my post!

... and furthermore that hit had a strong resemblence to the one Warren Sapp laid on Clifton of Green Bay some years back, and I don't remember Sapp getting any punishment at all. They were both just as viscious. I guess times they are a changing!

Sapp's block was legal. So it is said, so it shall be written. Now move on little people, and worship me.

Yes, Sapp's hit was perfectly legal at the time, and still should be, Mack's hit was not that bad... it actually come st a quite beneficial time for us if Talib is ok to go, Jerramy Stevens comes back from suspension and Mack goes on, now nobody has to get cut and somebody gets to keep their job for another week (Ben Troupe, James Allen, Jeff Garcia).

Nothing at all beneficial about this, not with Talib hurt. Now bow backwards out the door as you leave my presence. Worship me by voting for buhrock. I am a nobel prize winner A. Gore.

BS! It wasn't even that bad. The helmet part I get but Ryan take his little bubble with him when he runs down the field to get involved in a play. Take the pacifier out of his mouth.

Oh no you dihen't, you are not going anywhere flamer. You can't even get a simple raise because you are a whiner. Now sit down.

Damn it Al Gore!!! I found my big Mack and there's a bite taken out of it. Do you honestly expect me to eat this now?
Maybe, I can wrap it and send it to that guy over in Iran. What's his name Almahdenjad or something like that. I'll tell him it's a peace offering to stop building centrifuges. On the other he might misconstrue for a nuclear attack and start WWIII.

Did you put lipstick on the Donkey George, I did, so you can keep the tail. You did nothing but put lipstick on a Putin, and saw his soul, but he is still a Putin. Btw Sarah is hot, and I have a mansion in TN, and could easily have your power cut off in TX because of manbearpig. He has really made me in the world you know.

Mr. President and Mr. wanted to be President. The discussion here is about football. Do us a favor and take the BS to a political site.

What did you add to the Football part of this blog Drew? Do you have an opinion on this rookie's dumb penalty, and now suspension? Now if you think you need to be in charge of something, go back to your GI Joe toys and order them around.

Given the fact I didn't see the game or replay of the play in question. I respectfully have no opinion to offer.

i really don't think Mack should have been suspended for this game. I agree with the fine but its is football and ____(fill in with word of choice) happens. Elbert gave Ryan a nice welcome to the NFL party(I kind of like the cake reference that was in the newspaper on monday).

well this sucks.

This is like that scene in Goodfella's when he get's his "first pinch" and they bring all these presents and wine and they all are cheering for him! (Not that I advocate illegal hits)

The hit in question was legal, and thus we will protest the NFL.
John Lynch was never suspended for such violent hits......
Wait until I tell 'The Reverand' Jesse,
heads are going to roll

I like the hit that Mack put on Ryan. That kid has some 'fire' about him.

AS FAR AS I CAN REMEMBE MACKS SHOULDER
HIT FIRST THEN THAT JARRING HIT CAUSED RYANS HELMET TO HIT MACKS....LOL

The league is clearly right in this case. All those concussions lead to depression. My coach lets me take timeout for reflection in practice.
