Roster moves coming at cornerback
The Bucs are expected to do a little roster shuffling today to compensate for the loss of suspended CB Elbert Mack.
It appears they've already released tight end Ben Troupe, which isn't a surprise given Jerramy Stevens' return to the active roster this week. But Troupe technically didn't have to be let go to accommodate Stevens since Mack's suspension opened a roster spot, at least for this week.
So, what's up? We've learned the Bucs have been assessing several cornerbacks this week and are expected to add one to their active roster to replace Mack. The Bucs would be left with just three cornerbacks if they chose not to address the position, and one of those is rookie Aqib Talib who suffered a hamstring strain against the Falcons.
It remains a strong possibility the Bucs will opt against signing any of the unidentified prosepcts they're considering and simply promote CB Marcus Hamilton from the practice squad. Hamilton was a seventh-round draft pick in 2007 from Virginia.
This much we know for sure: The Bucs definitely won't be using another practice squad CB, Brandon Sumrall. We've recently confirmed that he has been released.
We'll have more on this and other storylines throughout the day as Wednesday tends to be the newsiest day of the week at One Buc Place.

Can Michael Bennet play Corner?

I would hope to promote Hamilton for the game. Some game experience would do him some good as well as justify his development on the practice squad.

Well, I'm not worried one hair on my head about this dillema! This team can "bank the last dime and see it gain interest" when it comes to Cornerback, and any position on defense in general. Where's the offense? Where's the offense that is worthy of suiting up next to this Awe striking Defense? That is my concern!

Can anyone see Kyle Orton exploiting a weakness at corner? Please.

Kyle Orton must be good, because he took my job and I'm a Gator Quarterback and everyone knows Gator Quarterbacks translate VERY well to the NFL.....he will torch you for 600 yards on Sunday!!!!

Kyle Arrington took Sumrall's Practice Squad spot. I did some research on this kid (his highlight reel is on u-tube) and he is an AWESOME hitter! I wouldn't be suprised if they mix him up very soon.

i think we'll see kiffin find ways to get sabby piscitelli on the field, maybe dropping tanard jackson in as the 4th corner when needed....the kid makes plays!

Fuggetabout it. Gruden sez that Jeff Garcia will be playing the nickel

Where are all the tools talking about how great a play this was. Homers, kneel in my presence. Deacon Jones' Heart is hurting today.

So sad that people have to hide under fake names to rip on the Gators. I know it must be hard when your program is in shambles.
So Rex hasn't been a good NFL QB..oh well. Peyton may have won a Super Bowl but he went 0-4 against the Gators!

C'mon, Gators players don't translate to NFL players at the QB and WR position for some reason. Tim Tebow may not be drafted because of how bad the last few gator qb sucked.

Yeah, all this talk about Gator QBs and you forgot about Gator WRs NOT named Hilliard......

Arrington is amazing! The Eagles made a huge mistake and we capitalized on it! I know he will gain experience and really help us in the future at corner.
Posted by: T. Jackson | September 17, 2008 at 02:05 PM
I guarantee you Tim Tebow is the REAL DEAL!!!!

WHY is T.O. 's picture on this web site above TAMPAS 2008 Schedule ?
Posted by: Tony | September 17, 2008 at 02:09 PM
Because Joey Galloway doesn't have popcorn. I do.

Can't play someone who doesn't know the defense. Likley have to promote Hamilton for a game. It's either that or slide a safety like Piscatelli into the nickel slot. The bears aren't exactly the greatest show on turf with respect to wide receiver speed; moving Piscatelli may not be a bad idea.

Is Lynch still available?
Posted by: Dave | September 17, 2008 at 07:35 PM
Lynch is a safety, not a corner.

this Arrington kid is known for hitting ability(go to You-Tube), he has speed & strenght, can't coach that.... the rest will come if givin the change to develope. I saw him during the Eagles and Panthers pre-see game, the kid was good. Eagles are deep at cb's, not sure if this was a smart move by the Eagles, signing Hefney who was cut by us during OTA's and releaseing Arrington....it's our gain!
