Anthony Davis makes way for Smith

It's official.

The Bucs have moved Clifton Smith to the active roster, as we told you here this morning. Look for him to return kicks and/or punts at Dallas.

Now comes word that backup OT Anthony Davis will be the victim of this move. He was released to make room for Smith on the active roster.

Davis, a one-time starter, has played only sparingly this season and has become somewhat expendable with the addition in recent years of linemen who play multiple positions (Arron Sears, Davin Joseph, Jeremy Zuttah).

he blew in preseason. The only reason we kept him was because of Davin's injury.

WAY TO GO Young Smith!!!

I applaud Smith. It is nice to see a kid get a break! Good luck!

bad move releasing Davis. He is a expeerienced valuable back up.

That is surprising. Leaves little depth on the o-line, with no real backup tackle. This leaves Zuttah as the backup for all four Guard and Tackle spots. Does Economos do anything besides long snap?

With injuries mounting, it's gut check time. Gotta hope no lineman goes down or Bucs might regret this move. Makes you wonder a bit if they really need four active QB's on the roster again. They really don't have an overload of players at any other position, though it would be nice to have a long snapper that could also play on the line.

Offensive line is a position where depth MAY possibly be more important, than the quality of the actual starters, and in any case, you hate you hate to lose an extra o-line guy. I believe Gruden and Allen understand this, so Davis must have REALLY had to look bad in order to be the one to get cut! Great Special teams is the area that transforms a "play off" caliber team into a "conference championship" caliber team!

Hello Detroit Lions. Buccaneers North!

I thought the plan was to release someone who would be available to be resigned on Monday. Not sure that Davis will be. If he's gone for good, I don't like this move one bit. O-line depth is much more important than adding ANOTHER return man. Use Clayton for crying out loud. He won't break one, but he won't make the mistakes that Jackson's been making. Anyway, I think losing Davis is too big a risk.

thats is a bad move...AD is a good friend of mine and for some reason he gets a bad rap. he can play both sides tackle and guard...he will get swooped up in no time. He is one of the nicest bucs off the field and im sure would make a good fit in pittsburgh or other teams hurting on the offensive line.

THE BUCS R FULL OF S@#T LETTIN AD GO!!!F@#K GRUDEN WIT A SICK D@#K!!!!!!!
