Bucs, Rays overlap; What to do?
Maybe I'm the last person in Tampa Bay to realize this, but I notice the Bucs and Rays will have a direct conflict in their games on Sunday as both play at 4 p.m.
The Bucs, as you know, play at Denver. Meanwhile, the Rays travel to Chicago for Game 3 of the Divisional Playoffs against the White Sox. They could be going for the series win if they win tonight at Tropicana Field.
I know where I'll be because, well, covering the Bucs is sort of my job. I'll be sitting in the press box at Mile High. But for those who have a choice in what to watch, I'm curious how they'll decide this one.
The way I see it, the Bucs have 11 more games after Sunday. The Rays are making history. Maybe that sways the pendelum toward baseball. Then again, the Bucs are hot, too, entering a game pitting two 3-1 teams.
It's a tough one. I'd love to hear how this will shake out for some of you.

I will be watching the Bucs game and will Tivo the Rays game..or visa versa

Second that skp!

Easy... SPORTS BAR!!!
If you go to Primtime's, Courtside, Selmon's etc. You'll always have enough screens and Bucs/Rays fans to dominate the station choices with.
LET'S NOT FORGET - The Bolts start thier season @ noon on Sunday from Prague as well (on Versus).
Go Bucs, Rays, Bolts and 'Noles... and Chiefs, Pack and Vikings)!!!
But mostly, go Bucs and Rays this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, doesn't anyone else feel like Tampa Fan is getting shafted by MLB? First they give us a 2:30 Thursday afternoon game to start our series, then a freaking 5:30 start time for our second game ON A FRIDAY (traffic ugh/tsk), then they give us a 4pm startime knowing damn well the Bucs are playing at the same time. AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF, they give us Boston's play-by-play guy from NESN to call all our ALDS.
F the MLB.

Thats what the VCR is for in the other room. The RAYS arent scared at all about this playoff run. I`ve been watching them all year. And they will have a great run! But I gotta watch my BUCS!
Posted by: STIXX | October 03, 2008 at 10:37 AM
Surely the people at Mile High can hook u up with a TV in the press box? I assume the Rays are on national tv so you should be able to see the game. Besides, its not as if you need to watch every pitch, just watch the football and then whenever theres a break at Invesco Field watch the Baseball to fill up the time. Easy ;)

That's easy for me. I'll be watching the Bucs from a sports bar (I live in south Florida and for whatever reason they almost NEVER show the Bucs on broadcast TV out of Miami or WPB).
I've been a Bucs season ticket holder for 11 years and a fan since 1977, but because I was born in Baltimore, I'm a lifelong Orioles fan. (Yeah, I know, it's been tough for, oh, 25 years now.) I'm pulling for the Rays in the playoffs this year, but not enough to pull me away from the Bucs telecast.

What a great problem to have! Tampa is turning out to be one of the best sports towns in America. Too bad USF lost to Pitt last night.

Baseball is boring on TV, if you can't see it in person, no question, watch the Bucs!
Posted by: DV | October 03, 2008 at 12:34 PM
That is F'd up James. Nothing like playing most of your 81 home games at 7 and then being forced to play at 2:30 and 5:30 for the playoffs. The Brewers are playing normal games. Geez, I wonder why...?
Posted by: DR | October 03, 2008 at 12:42 PM
to me its pretty simple
flip back and forth between commercials
Posted by: Mark | October 03, 2008 at 12:43 PM
DVR the Bucs, watch the Rays live.
Posted by: Fuber | October 03, 2008 at 12:53 PM
Thank god for the DVR.
Posted by: Jay | October 03, 2008 at 12:55 PM
I flip channels anyway so it isn't a problem. LOL
Posted by: Turk | October 03, 2008 at 12:56 PM
Rays on the p.c. Bucs on the T.V. and a beer in each hand!!!!
Posted by: joe | October 03, 2008 at 01:38 PM
I will be watching the Bucs play.
Baseball needs to reschedule their season so the last game of their final series occurs on Labor Day Weekend.

I say watch the bucs game because DEN's offense is serious and our is coming along nicely despite the shooty play of BG with his 6 int. The Rays game will be on longer considering baseball doesn't move that fast so you can catch the important innings 6-9.

Thanks Stephen...now it won't be a problem, since you just jinxed the Rays' chances tonight - "They could be going for the series win if they win tonight at Tropicana Field." - Looks like the Rays will be looking to break a 1-1 series tie on Sunday ... LOL...Just kidding, but I think the sports bar option is the way to go, especially since it's a late start for the Bucs - won't have to cook dinner on Sunday.

I completely agree with sinfonian. For some reason they never show the Bucs Game here in PALM BEACH COUNTY!!! and it makes me sick. i have to see all these other lame-o teams. We got the only 4:00 game for fox and they decide to show Bull Riding of all things. I cant stand it! Meanwhile my friend up in Tallahassee gets every single one of the games and i spend the whole game on the phone with him as my narator. So by default i will be watching the Rays game. Then watch NFL Gameday.

Baseball is for OLD ladies with walkers. Too slow...
Posted by: Drew | October 03, 2008 at 09:40 PM
baseball sucks easy decision!I still they would have went on strike a while back.
Posted by: john | October 03, 2008 at 09:51 PM
Gotta go with the Bucs, but constantly flipping the channel, the loveable Rays aren't where the Bucs are, but they're following a similar path (post 1997), could end up being a totally awesome day for Tampa Bay if both teams win, and they will!!
Posted by: Tom Henson | October 04, 2008 at 12:37 AM
hey DR, the Brewers have just as F'uped times as they do. the only time they ever play before six is on sundays. yeah i'm a brewer fan, my family moved to Wisconsin in 1989. But I'm also a Tigers fan, I grew up about twenty minutes from their training camp in Florida. So Hopefully the Brewers will win the last three and meet the Rays in the SERIES, than I won't care who wins; I like both. GO BUCS, RAYS, AND BREWERS. FU@K DA CUBS.
Posted by: lilargue | October 04, 2008 at 04:11 AM
What is this "baseball" you speak of? There is only one sport, and it's the NFL!
Posted by: Southern Pirate | October 04, 2008 at 11:51 AM
We will be sitting in Section 338 row 11 @ Mile High, running back and forth into the bar in the club section, to keep tab on the Rays...look us up!

Miss a second of football and you can miss a lot. I'll be switching between games, mostly watching football.
Posted by: melissa | October 04, 2008 at 04:46 PM
screw the bucs. the rays are making history. gruden sux and so does bruce allen.
HOO RAYS!!!!!!
And GO BOLTS!!!!!
Posted by: Mike | October 05, 2008 at 12:43 AM
I have Direct TV's Superfan package which means I can sit with my laptop and watch the Buc's game, live and watch the Rays on the big screen at the same time. Can't beat that combination. With the number of commercials TV has, I can keep up with both games.
Posted by: Larry | October 05, 2008 at 09:45 AM
There is a Tropicana field in Chicago too?? Stephen, you may wanna fix that in your column.
Go Rays! Go Bucs! Go Bolts!
I love Tampa!
