Tampa Bay Bucs release Michael Bennett, send Maurice Stovall to I.R.

The Bucs released running back Michael Bennett to make room for Cadillac Williams on the 53-man roster.

The team  also announced two other moves. The Bucs placed receiver Maurice Stovall (hamstring) on injured reserve and signed receiver Brian Clark from the practice squad.

Bennett, who was aquired in a trade with Kansas City last season and re-signed as a free agent last spring, was seldom-used in the Bucs offense after leading the team in rushing during the preseason. He had just seven carries for 12 yards and was inactive four games.

Williams, who suffered a torn patellar tendon nearly 14 months ago, has been on the Physically Unable to Perform list. But after watching him practice for three weeks, the Bucs decided to activate him rather than place him on Injured Reserve.

Williams will join Earnest Graham, Warrick Dunn and Clifton Smith at tailback. Graham is questionable for Sunday's game with a knee injury.

The awful wasted pick for Dexter Jackson is singularly responsible for the Michael Bennett is release. If Jackson was worthy of his selction, he would be playing WR and returning kickoffs and punts. He is doing none of the above even with Hilliard injured and Stovall out for the year. Thank God gor Clifton Smith, who was just as effective as Bennett and has a bigger upside in potential than Bennett. But Bennett would have seen playing time and been on the squad if not for Jackson's total ineptitude.

How hard is it to understand that you had 5 tailbacks, far too many and you released the least talented? Damn, most teams would like to have those kind of problems. Kudos to Bruce Allen and Jon Gruiden for stocking this team so well.

go20, Since when do fans that actually buy tickets have the right to deny the Chicken Littles their due? BTW, funny how Sapp isn't ever seen in anything Silver and Black since he retired. I live in Oakland and I won't wear that crap either!! Go Bucs!!

JK

I hope Bennett ends up on Coach Owens team in Dallas where all the real talent in the NFL reside. What's the Super Bowl champs record anyway? Any Cowboy fans still around or do you jump ship and get on the wagon of a winning team from year to year. The Titans would be a good team to go blog onto and pretend to have been their fan for years. How about it DR? Become a Titan fan and leave us alone.

For a team that lacks speed like the bucs, this was a bad move. He never really had a chance on the field.

We traded to get him, what a waste.

Some of you clowns need new jobs...

Lets see...Release Clark and then sign him to the practice squad then two days later sign him back again. Does Allen have any idea what he is doing?

With that kind of stupdity, I am sure releasing Bennett is was a mistake.

Steve

Have we become so jaded with winning that we've lost sight of the fact we're 6 and 3??? We have one of our best starts ever and the negativity spouted on these blogs is confounding.
