Historic win for Bucs

This game was as historic as it was dramatic.

Coming back from a 24-3 deficit, the Bucs accomplished the biggest comeback victory in franchise history with their 30-27 overtime win. The only other games that can compare are a pair of 17-point comebacks in 1979 and 1983.

The Bucs defeated Baltimore 29-26 in overtime on Sept. 9, 1979 after trailing 17-0. On Jan. 2, 1983, the Bucs knocked off the Bears 26-23 in overtime after trailing 23-6.

Also today, Jon Gruden becomes the winningest coach in team history (playoffs included) with his 57th victory. Tony Dungy ranks second with 56 and John McKay third with 45.

Congrats to the Bucs on fighting back to win this one. I did not know it was such an historic game. Congrats to Gruden for becomming the winningest coach in our history. Cool.

But oh my. Let the anti Gruden comments begin in 3... 2... 1...

3....2....1.....FIRE GRUDEN.

Piper

THE GRU GURU RULES! ALL HAIL OUR WINNINGEST COACH EVER!

Halim

Gruden is the man

jobucs

Fire Gruden is a coward because he won't reveal his name.

jobucs

That's right isn't it DR?

DBucs Fan2

Great comeback, a win is a win. Congrats to Gruden on his win and congrats to Tampa on a historic comeback! At 6-3 we are looking good after escaping from that game. Can someone sing Antonio Bryant to an extension now, the guy is a playmaker! To everyone who said we didnt make any big moves for recievers during free agency he has become the best wr pickup this year by any team. GO Bucs enjoy the bye week!

Jay

As nice as it was, I can still remember Tim Wansley and that game against the Colts. It's just nice to be on the other side for a change.

Sir Pritam the Great of England

A three-TD comeback is the biggest in franchise history? Three touchdowns doesn't even seem like a lot

It's so nice to be mediocre and happy about it! I am not satisfied with a team that can’t play with the big guys. Miami with Chad Pennington, a rookie coach and a new system goes into Denver and wins. The Bucs couldn't do that! The Rams beat up on the Cowboys, as did the Giants! The Bucs couldn’t do that. The other great quote from Wyche was, “It was a helluva run!” This was after 5 dash 2 turned into 7 dash 9. I have been here since day one and I want to see league domination, I want to see fear in the other teams when they have to play the Bucs. I don’t want to be happy because the Bucs had to go to overtime to beat a bottom dweller. You guys are too easily satisfied, and if you think they are going to be able to take the division away from Carolina then your not done thinking yet. That means wild card, that means road trip, that means one and done! Go ahead and throw your party and rip at me and the dissatisfied people and call us negative, or haters, or whatever you want to say, but I want the Bucs to be a contender, not a pretender, year in and year out! And with that ‘Nuff Said!

ws

Hey Mr. 'Nuff said! (Incorrect English), The Chief beat the Broncos dumb a...! This is the NFL! Any team can win on a given day. You don't know anything about football or the English language. 6-3 is a great record. You should be a Titans fan. I'll tell them your an idiot, but to be nice to you. Go Bucs!

onlyohiotampafan

hey guys a win is a win no matter how u get it. lets go bucs 6-3 not to bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nick

I miss the Rays

marc

I'm with mr.nuff if we have any chance at being a real contender this game has to be a cake walk.Glad that we won but come on you can't be satisfied with the way they got handled in the first half.Hopefully with the by week they can get some players healthy and get ready down the streach.Gruden needs to be up in the boof so he can really see the field and what's open. Some of those play calls was horrible.GO BUCS

Vince

Curious why no one is calling for Kiffin's head? The defense played awful today. I guess that is Gruden's fault too. Heck, Gruden is also to blame for the fumbles and interceptions. Fire Gruden!

Vince (not the Vince above this post)

I'm telling you, this is the time of year that these "one and too many losses" play with the ferocity of a wounded Tiger! Even still No matter who you're playing, coming back from down by 21 is a huge victory!

Piper

Vince, don't forget, Gruden is also to blame for the poor economy, gas prices, global warming, reality television shows, and Donald Trumps' hideous hair style.

Piper

GO GRU-BUCS!

nick

Jay, Tim wansley?
you are about twenty 3 years or so off!!
That colts game was 79.
We got behind in the first qtr with doug williams INT, and came back and took a lead only to let the colts come back and tie it. we won in overtime. The quote by the announcer: The Bucs are undefeated. It was super historic, because the bucs had only won 7 games in their 3 years of existence. That caught the ear of a certain preteen boy, yours truly, and Ive been a bucs fan since. You are thinking of the COLTS comeback in 03, not OUR comeback vs the Colts in 79.

Jay in Lake Mary

a win is a win.

i'll take it.

DR

No jobucs, that isn't me. Like Holder said, it doesn't matter what Gruden does, he could go 8-8 this year and 1-15 next year and he won't be fired. The Glazers won't buy out his contract so he's here til the end of it.
I wasn't impressed with the win yesterday. If they came back against a good team than yes, it would be impressive. They made up for terrible play. This is the NFL I guess.

Voc

Good win for the buccaneers yesterday. I thought they showed a lot of heart, the KO return got it started.

I am still concerned about the offense, they fall behind like that to a good team and its a blowout. Hopefully, they can look and build on this!

Drs

Congrats to Gruden, love the guy. He's a quality head coach.

I think our offensive woes are due to the QBs we've started. Garcia has to know in the back of his mind he can't throw deep. With that small bit of doubt that has to be there it doesnt surprise me that all he does is dink and dunk. He's scared in the pocket, he never gives plays any chance to develop. I hope he can pull himself together soon, we won't win many more with him playing so poorly.

He's still our most reliable option though so I'm pulling for him.

Stacy

Stehen Holder

Gruden has 57 victories. How many defeats?

Thanks

migget

chiefs come on they suck ,the best record for a bucs coach come on thats not hard to do ,there is not one thing to look forward to adout this team jon the midget has killed this team, sucked it dry look at all the good young players, there are none!

Erick

You don't have to be blind to one side or the other. The Bucs played horribly the first half, but credit the Chiefs for coming out and attacking. The good part is that the Bucs stepped it up later and made some amazing plays. Who cares who it was against, that was a huge deficit to overcome. Now I am worried about the porous defense and sluggish offense (first half) but there is reason to believe that this team could be a real contender if just buckles down and focuses. And does anyone want to admit we actually might have a pretty decent receiving core, with Bryant, Hilliard, Galloway and dare I say CLAYTON!!

oar

Stacy it is 51 loses(defeats?) What does that have to do with being the winnigest coach in Buc history? Nada, you tool. Gruden certianly does not hold the most franchise loses(sorry defeats).
Great second half comeback and great return Smith(Dexter who?) Go Bucs.

oar

Migget you guys just keep falling out of the box.

Fuber

Antonio Bryant is clutch. That one handed catch early in the game? Amazing. David Boston is somewhere in Canada drinking his sorrows away.

stacy

OAR

First, dont get personal with me, you dont know me! Secondly, I was not trying to be demeaning,(just for you that means "To conduct or behave in a particular manner"),in any way. I was just being lazy and not wanting to look up the info.

Be Careful Youngster

DR

Wow, 57 wins and he is the winningest coach in Bucs history. That proves how bad the Bucs franchise is.
The losses do mean something. If he was a better coach that brought talent to this team, he would have had 57 wins a few seasons ago. His record is average. Its a meaningless feat.

Grudog

You people are Stupid at best (dr.. it sure dont mean Doctor, oar? what are you a paddle for a boat?)Are you Buc Fans Probably not you come on here bashing people, bashing My Team and my win record. You are A Doofus if you are so friggen smart why dont you come on down to One Buc Place and take my job you moron. You probably work at the local a.m. p.m. and are lucky if you have a high school education. So unless you can do a better jod shut you trap and enjoy my winning Team Boy

RR

I wonder if anyone on this message board has ever played the game, let alone coach it. This is the NFL where with the salary cap, there is parity and any given Sunday could lead to a victory, even for the defeated Bengals. Edwards coached under Kiffin for years and knows what this defense is all about. The Chiefs called an excellent game in the first half, and Kiffin showed his worth by giving up 3, yes 3 points in the second half. The Bucs had a huge victory yesterday, and for those failing to keep score, lost all 3 of their games by a combined 11 points. This team is playoff bound, and will even beat Carolina for the Division Title, just wait and see.

OAR

GRUDOG THAT'S MY INITIALS. DR I'M NOT SO SURE ABOUT? STACY SORRY IF I OFFENDED YOU, YOU HAVE LEFT QUESTIONALBE COMMENTS BEFORE(IF THAT IS THE SAME STACY?) DR BUT AGAIN WHEN LOOKING AT THE WINNINGEST COACH TAG/TITLE LOSES MEAN NOTHING. NOW IF IT WERE THE WINNIGEST PERCENTAGE THEN LOSES DO COME INTO PLAY. HAD GRUDEN HAD MORE DRAFT PICKS AND MORE CAP SPACE HIS FIRST YEARS HE WOULD HAVE DONE IT IN LESS TIME.

The LastWalshPick

Garcia had a great comeback game yesterday. Even after Michael Bennett fumbled the ball two times, Jeff still found a way to comeback and win.
It was exciting to listen to on Sirius NFL.

Greg

The Bucs found a way to win. That is what matters. They started really slow, but got their groove back thanks to Clfton pumping some life into the team. Give Gruden his credit, although it was not his coaching that won the game. Garcia finally stepped up, Clayton finally stepped up, and Clifton said, let me show you the way.

I am not a Gruden fan, but the folks that keep crapping on him should look at the record and bite their lip and shut up. And DR, you always come out with this 1-15 thing. Is that your IQ?

michael nelson

yea gruden good mut dungey waz betta
