Monte Kiffin considering joining son with Vols
Bucs defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin is considering joining his son, Lane Kiffin, at the University of Tennessee, according to a report on ESPN Sunday morning.
The younger Kiffin was hired as the Vols head coach this week and will be introduced in Knoxville Monday.
Monte Kiffin, 68, has been the Bucs defensive coordinator since 1996 and his defense has finished among the top 10 in the NFL 11 times in the past 12 years. The Bucs defense is currently ranked fourth overall.
ESPN reporter Chris Mortensen said 'it's not a done deal yet,' but indicated that's the direction Monte Kiffin is leaning.
One of the rifts that formed between then Raiders coach Lane Kiffin and owner Al Davis was that the younger Kiffin wanted to fire defensive coordinator Rex Ryan and hire his famous father.
Now it appears that he will get that chance. Mortensen said sources have confirmed that Monte Kiffin is expected to join the Vols coaching staff when the Bucs' season ends.
When asked if Monte had expressed a desire to coach with his son, Bucs general manager Bruce Allen said, "I would never answer that question.''

This would be a great loss for the Bucs, but potentially a great reward for Monte's dedication to the game of football. Maybe it is time for Coach Morris to be rewarded by being promoted to DC. I have to believe the Bucs do not want to lose him again.

How is Monte getting out of his two year extension? Did they (Tennessee) buy him out?
Wait, are the Bucs front office suddenly being generous? If so, I believe that it's a sign of the Apocalypse. I'm going to go put my brimstone proof underwear on.

This is most likely BS. They are always saying that Monte is on the way out and he never does, he loves this job and has always said so. Mortensen is always trying to "scoop" his peers and is often baseless...

Monte is nearing 70, if anyone think he's immortal, they're sorely mistaken. Why wouldn't he want to work with his son? Good for him, if he's going. They'd help bring Tennessee back to the point of being respectable enough to enjoy beating again.

Jay, Monte is under contract with the Bucs, which prevents him from going to another NFL team. Nothing but a buyout of his current contract prevents him from returning to the college ranks. Assuming a buyout is a stipulation, that is.

monte said at the beginning of this offseason that it was time for his son to spread his wings and he doesn't need daddy looking over his shoulder anymore. Monte isn't going anywhere and if anyone thinks that he is your a complete_______(insert preferred word here) idiot

Jay, at least you are a consistent hater. Haven't seen much of you on the blog since the Bucs have been winning.
Have you considered this: why would Raheem Morris come back from the college ranks to be a DB coach? Hmmm . ..

Vince, take your pills and relax a bit. I'm not hating at all, I just don't want to see Monte leave my favorite team. If you remember seeing how the Glazers refused to let Detroit interview Joe Barry for the d-coordinator position after the SuperBowl run, you would understand why I'm not as forgiving with the ownership.
I will give credit where it is due though. Allen and Gruden have, despite my previous assertions, an excellent job with the talent they have on the team, as well as scouting. But if Monte leaves, who becomes the d-coordinator? Do Barber and Brooks retire, rather than learn a new scheme? There's a lot to be concerned about after the season ends if this story is true.

Monte is gone!!!!! What dad wouldn't jump at the opportunity to coach with his son. Tennessee will buy out his contract! Barber and Brooks will retire and then the defense will be average like the offense. Anyone that thinks he wouldn't leave is a complete __________(fill in preferred word here)
idiot The Wizard has spoken!!

Monte is definitely gone, the authorities tell me so. The Sucaneers are done. If you think he's staying get your brain checked cause he's gone. Why would some one want to coach for the Bucs? To get great national recognition? No. Who likes the Bucs? They went 0-26 before winning there first game. Who cares if they were an expansion team. Who else did that? Terrible Franchise! How much do those losers rip you off for parking a game? 25 bucks! LOSERS!!

Jedi mind trick-
Thanks for that; I needed a good laugh. Inane trash talking (pulling stats from over 30 years ago) is always much funnier when the poster writes has a second-grade grasp of the English language.
Now run along, read a book, and brush up on some relevant information before you try again. Grab some Kleenex on your way out, too, in case you need to cry some more about whatever is making you so miserable.

Jay, why do you think that Brooks and Barbr would have to learn a new scheme? Half the league runs the Tampa 2 and, as I stated, the mostly likley replacement in Raheem Morris. If not Morris, then Marinelli or some other Kiffin disciple.
I made my comment about you being a hater to illustrate the point that your valid concerns are diminished because your perspective on Gruden/Allen is that of a hater. Hard to take anything you say seriously because it is so onesided. Same is true of your colleagues in hate: DR and the "Nuff said guy, Valrico Rick.

Stats from 30 years ago? ok How about the bucs are the losingest team in the NFL since the 1970 merger. Were you born yet? We can't include the Texans since they are fairly new. Just a fact for a historically losing organization. Doing average now though.
Guess who the winningest top two teams are? The Miami Dolphins and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Historically winning organizations that have had some, but only a hand full losing seasons, compared to a truck load for the lowly bucs. Keep having your fun cheering for them though, it's all you have.
