What else is there to say, other than pathetic. Wait, make that Pathetic.

Jeff Garcia is old; Michael Clayton has never been able to catch; Gruden is hardly an offensive genius; Derrick Brooks shouldn't have been on the field; unbelievable end to the season.

i think im disgusted at everything that hapened post caddy inj. the whole team just gave up
Posted by: conradbuff | December 28, 2008 at 04:15 PM
I'm so disappointed I'm speechless.
Posted by: shane | December 28, 2008 at 04:15 PM
Very disappointing way to end the season. Just as well, I suppose, because this team has played so poorly the last 4 games, they weren't going to get anything done in the playoffs anyway.
Posted by: Henry | December 28, 2008 at 04:16 PM
there wil definetly be a lot of new faces next year i promise you that i dont think thats reallt a good thing but there will be a whole lot of new players
Posted by: conradbuff | December 28, 2008 at 04:17 PM
The Season was over weeks ago. Clean house, start over and build for the future. At the least, send Bruce Allen packing. Take any final personel decisions away from Coach Gruden. Get a G.M. that knows how to work the draft.
Posted by: Al | December 28, 2008 at 04:18 PM
Very dissappointing effort last 4 games....and I see nothing to look forward to for next year either with on field talent or coaching. Glazer's please fire Chuckie and bring in someone to re-build this team.
Posted by: SyracuseBucFan | December 28, 2008 at 04:19 PM
What do you think we think? Sorry bunch of play I have ever seen. I feel worse about this crap ending then when Tampa went 4-12 a couple of years ago.
Posted by: Jesse | December 28, 2008 at 04:19 PM
FIRE GRUDEN! This was one of the greatest late season collapses in NFL history. Look it up. This guy is a JOKE!
Posted by: Alan | December 28, 2008 at 04:19 PM
Again, FIRE GRUDEN
Posted by: Alan | December 28, 2008 at 04:21 PM
Injuries killed them all season and Garcia looked Gimpy all day. Gannon from the press box on CBS even said that Garcia looks slow today and unconfident. I just think they gave up when they lost Caddy to I hope not a severe injury. He looked like Caddy of old till get got hurt and during those plays he was doing it and getting more and more confident. The BUCS need D Line help, Need a younger QB I hope they get Cassell, and get Johnson ready to play. Receivers, they have to get better on D and younger. Up till the Caddy getting hurt they looked good after Halftime, and after the injury horrible. Good luck next year. Gruden will get fired and I don't really think it was his fault. Garcia looked hurt and scared.

We SUCK! I am beyond disappointed. We made the Raiders look awesome. I knew once we took the lead it was over. DISGRACEFUL!!!
Posted by: Wayne Poole | December 28, 2008 at 04:25 PM
Incredibly disappointing fall from a 9 and 3 season. We need a LOT of changes starting with Gruden. I'm not an Allen hater as he is following direction but I am very concerned over the Glazer's lack of urgency with respect to both our coaching staff and rebuilding this team with young talent. Time for Gruden to be coaching elsewhere. Don't really expect it will happen but one can hope.
Posted by: Turk | December 28, 2008 at 04:25 PM
A very disappointing ending (last 4 games) to what looked like a very promising season. The Bucs weaknesses were exposed. On Defense, no pass rush & no stud in the middle. On Offense, no franchise QB & inadequate WR's for the coach's system. The nucleus seems in place but maybe a little older than desired. 9-7 is commendable but the front office I'm sure is aware of the challenge in the off season. The NFC South is now the beast in the league.
Posted by: Leo In Canada | December 28, 2008 at 04:28 PM
Completely inept team. Horrible coaching, mediocre RB's and offensive line, horrible pass rush, horrible run defense and below average pass defense. It will take years, probably 4 or 5 years to rebuild to a competitive level. Collapses like this are unprecedented in the NFL and Gruden should pay by losing his job. No excuse for the lack of intensity this team showed today. That's ALL COACHING!
Posted by: Olan Hill | December 28, 2008 at 04:29 PM
Bye Jon. It's way past time to go.
Posted by: Mark | December 28, 2008 at 04:30 PM
Everything was over after caddy went down. I lost all hope at that point myself and Garcia became bouncy even more than usual. I beleive Gruden needs to get fired but he will be given another chance unless a new "super-reputable" coach can be found before the firing. A win without Caddy would have been a waste of a playoff spot anyway. We need to spend that extra cash on Cassel, Heyward and Chad Johnson and use the draft on restoring our defensive depth. Run Will Allen and Phil out of town. I think Derrick and Rhonde will both retire and I will miss them. The re-build (that makes mesick to say they) may force them out anyway.
Posted by: Mack Da Fan | December 28, 2008 at 04:31 PM
Fire Gruden is right. For an offensive genius he flunks. The Bucs didn't score more than 3 touchdowns in any game this year. Everyone needs to stop blaming the defense. Yes, they weren't so hot either, but the offense doesn't help when they can't keep the ball for long and scoring field goals doesn't help either. Gruden has not won a playoff game since the Super Bowl year. No other team would put up with a coach like that. It is time to get some new players, but the Bucs need to start with a new coach!
Posted by: Trip | December 28, 2008 at 04:31 PM
Oh, one more thing.......of all games this year where west coast teams played in the eastern time zone, only 3 were won by the visitor. 2 of those 3 happened against the Bucs in two consecutive weeks. Way to go Gruden!
Posted by: Olan Hill | December 28, 2008 at 04:32 PM
We need a major overhaul from top to bottom. We need a true talent evaluator, like Parcells. I know he is an idiot, but the man can build football teams. We need to dump any player over 30, build through the draft. I for one am sick and tired of seeing players who were on the board when we picked kill us each week while our top few picks seem to struggle or be marginal. Unless Gruden has no say on personell (and I seriously doubt that) than he does bear some responsibility for this collapse. The Kiffin thing was mishandled, you tell me how much difference it would have made to wait 4 weeks to announce his intentions? None. We should have done whatever it took to get Turner in the off season, but no , Atlanta gets him when they already have Norris. Players must really not want to come to Tampa. We need to make MAJOR changes and take our lumps for a few years, it will be worth it.

R.I.P. Joan Gruden, and take your punter with ya-- wish I could say nice knowing ya, but I can not.. couldn't stand you from the moment you were picked to take Dungy's team to the Super Bowl, then you dismantled the ones who threatened you most.. maybe your good pal Tiger can use a waterboy on tour next year?
Posted by: nickatdabeach | December 28, 2008 at 04:34 PM
Brooks and Barber have been the heart and soul of this team for many years. It's painfull to see them hanging on too long. It's time for them to announce their retirements and start making travel arrangements to Canton OH.
Posted by: Al | December 28, 2008 at 04:35 PM
get rid of bruce allen, bring back rich mckay, and let him through gruden out!!!
Posted by: bill | December 28, 2008 at 04:38 PM
YES, I'm so glad the Bucs didn't "limp" into the playoff's! I'm so happy! Sometimes you have to take a step back in order to take a step forward! Now maybe the Bucs will get rid of the West Coast Offense and start fresh? They've shown they can attack Vertically,so let's make that the focus! I'm not worried about the Defense. It's the coaching or perhaps a conspiracy to get Gruden fired? WHO knows?
Posted by: Vincent | December 28, 2008 at 04:42 PM
It's a little after the Raiders game. When do we get rid of Gruden?
Play caller PLEASE!
Posted by: 44 | December 28, 2008 at 04:42 PM
AWFUL and EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTING!!
Posted by: Wayne | December 28, 2008 at 04:42 PM
oh how fast we turn on our coach gruden is not on the field playing. The players MUST EXECUTE THE PLAYS Garcia has missed wide open receivers on failed to throw to open ones.
But on a more important note the NFL has rules against talking to players and coaches to recruit them during the season. I strongly feel that this rule should be applied to collage teams recruiting coaches from the NFL as well. Ever since Tennessee and Lame Kiffin announced that Monty was going to coming to coach with his son, the bucs have fallen to pieces. It is directly related.
I am thankful to Monty for all he has done here but he should have known better. a lot of these players have played their whole careers here and Monty was all that this defense has known, and to think that it would not have an effect on the game was poor judgement. This is the end of an era and to see it go down like this is very sad and it could have been avoided by waiting until the off season to make a change. there needs to be some rules to keep this from happening.
Maybe if LAME KIFFIN was a good enough coach he would not have to have his dad help him get a coaching job by promising that his dad would come with him. That is the only reason LAME got that job in Tennessee. He pulled the same crap that got him the job in Oakland. And you see how he screwed that job up. I call him Lame Shady.
Posted by: chaz | December 28, 2008 at 04:49 PM
Just one more note to all those Garcia haters i as a fan find it easy to watch the game on tv and see open receivers and wonder why didn't he throw to that one or dod this or that. And i am also not happy with what has happened to this team in the last 4 weeks but without Garcia this team would not have done this well we always want something more than what we have. And that is the same thing that Gruden does.
We want the instant gratification. Garcia is a smart QB, has the lowest interceptions this season and knows how to win but he cant do it all. It's real simple this team gave up 4 weeks ago when the rumors came out about Monty Leaving and as much as i appreciate all that Monty has done here, I am very pissed that he did not choose to wait till the off season to make a change or at the very least make it absolutely clear to Tennessee that this is not to be announced until the off season and made that part of the deal.
He has been a heart and soul of this defense for far to long to and to think that this would not have an emotional effect on the team and game was just simply not good forward thinking.
The NFL needs rules to keep this kind of thing from happening in the future.
Posted by: chaz | December 28, 2008 at 04:50 PM
Cadillac will be back his suck s for him but i think he will come back from this. The announcers made a mistake when the said that he re-injured his knee. This was his left knee last time was his right knee. He is young and strong depending on the injury and how bad it is most times when you come back from the surgery like his last one your knee is stronger. Dont give up caddy!!!!!!!!
Posted by: chaz | December 28, 2008 at 04:50 PM
I am going to give you all a belated Christmas present and not say it!
Posted by: Valrico Rick | December 28, 2008 at 04:51 PM
Just listened to the post game conference, and I must say I was greatly dissapointed with the "softball" questions the media asked. The media should have called him out on the awful play calling and the teams lack of intensity. The should have also not accepted his continued of injuries as an excuse. Though Gruden said he didn't want to use injuries as an excuse, he did. He should have been reminded that Michael Bush was the Raiders 3rd String RB, but that didn't stop him from rushing for over 150 yards. Come on Press!! Do you job.
Posted by: Olan Hill | December 28, 2008 at 04:54 PM
Gruden is NOT
- The one scrambling in the backfield regardless of protection.
- The one dropping balls down the field.
- Missing blocks.
- Missing Tackles on the defense.
- Falling asleep on man 2 man coverage.
- Biting on the wrong side of a zone play.
- Creating distractions with his change in mailing address to Tenn.
You can blame it on Gruden all you want. The facts are clear though. You can call a play but unless it well executed, even Lombardi, Parcells, Bellichek won't be effective.
Posted by: Grs | December 28, 2008 at 04:56 PM
Man, this makes the crashes of 29 and 08 look small! What happened to the bucs I love? Panthers game was do or die, huh?
I love Gru but am sick of paying Direct-TV a ton to watch reruns every year here in Baltimore. He's gotta pay the price.

gruden and allen won the super bowl with dungys team. what have they done since that? nothing!!!
Posted by: bill | December 28, 2008 at 04:58 PM
This 4-game collapse is a coach killer. Some heads must roll -- even Gruden's (thought I'd never say that).
Posted by: Lewis | December 28, 2008 at 05:06 PM
I hear Dungy may be available soon.
Posted by: PuddlePirate | December 28, 2008 at 05:06 PM
COme on Valero Rick... SAY IT!!!!!!
Posted by: Vincent | December 28, 2008 at 05:06 PM
Over the years Jon Gruden has developed poor relationships with his players. I doubt they trust him or like him. I wouldn't. Another failing season suggests that Gruden has lost the ability to inspire his players and nurture their talents. I find myself wishing Jon would move on and Tony Dungy, or some other inspiring man, would step in to inspire our players. Just dreaming... I know.

excuse me, I mean Valrico Rick!
Posted by: Vincent | December 28, 2008 at 05:07 PM
This is my first and only post. Lived my first 42 years in the TB area. Last 7 in north GA. Have the Sunday ticket for 7 years; to watch the bucs, of course. For what it is worth, here is my perspective: Caddilac going down was tragic, and I have got to believe this is the end of his career. It is also sad that CBS sensationalized it by capturing his "I can't f-ing believe it" sound bite. But I guess that is beside the point. What I mean to say is that his injury, and I am not a fan of his, this is the sadest part of wht happened in the 4th quarter of today's game. Now for the rest.
If Derrick Brooks truly has the depth of character that he martyrishly bestows upon himself then should declare himself unfit for the Hall of Fame for putting his pride before the team. Why did he not walk up to McCoy himself and say "I need you to get in there and help this team win this game." Why does Monte Kiffen feel his son Lane cannot be a succesful College coach without him to wipe his nose for him? Monte mailed it in; no question about it. No character! Is Raheem Morris really the anser a d coordinator? Talk of him being a head coach? You gotta be kidding me! Who could take him seriously after the Buccaneer December 2008 disaster! Valrico Rick, you may get your wish. Not that I think Gruden has been that bad. Frankly, he had a team, that has about the same talent level as the Oakland Raiders, over achieving for 12 games. But frankly the owners need to clean house if for no other reason than to start a new era. But if they don't then it will speak volumes. That is to them this is a business and not about winning. But the best thing that could happen to my former community is for the Glazers to sell the team. What if their greed in over leveraging the soccer team drove them to financial failure? Wouldn't that be a shame? Hey Stephen Holder, I have an angle for you. Why don't you do a report on what the Glazers have done for the TB community? And for all Tampa Bay fans out there I have a final question. Is it worse to be a Tampa Bay fan or a Detriot fan?
Posted by: tampabaynative | December 28, 2008 at 05:08 PM
Let me say this to every one that wants to keep shouting Gruden won with Dungy's team. Well Dungy did have a hand i building this team but most of that was the talent genius of Rich Mckay.
It was not Dungy's offensive playbook that we used to get us to the superbowl and to win it. it was a team that EXECUTED THE PLAYS the same plays that this team has.
You people are just like the homeless person with the sign that says "HOMELESS AND HUNGRY PLEASE HELP"
you take the money thats given but as soon as someone actually offers you food you don't want it. Ungrateful.

R.I.P. Joan Gruden
Posted by: nickatdabeach | December 28, 2008 at 05:09 PM
Would be interested in stat analysis but am guessing they were the worst team in football the last quarter of the year. Nothing different today. On defense, the line is not getting the job done. I have seen Brooks unable to pursue on a number of plays the last month. Garcia is a brave man but no longer steps up into a pocket to allow plays to develop. There is just no good news here right now.
Posted by: db4me | December 28, 2008 at 05:10 PM
All i can say is wow... i really cant understand how we go 9-3 then lose 4 staight. how in the hell do we lose to oakland. Why the hell dont we run on goaline situations. Dissapointment cant even describe what i feel right now. Of all teams, we lose to the lowly raiders. I swear i could go up to Jeff Garcia , Jon Gruden, and Monte Kiffin and knock them the hell out right now. JESUS CHRIST we had a ten point lead and blew it again. Im sick of the same crap. Everyone who has seen me blog on this website knows im a DIEHARD buc fan and im always optomostic about what is to come but 4 F-ING GAMES STRAIGHT is too much for me to handle. Like someone said earlier, I'd much rather lose 12 games than going 9-3 an be the biggest dissapointment in the NFL. Ever since Monte made his anouncement, he ripped the heart of this defense out. F that punk. I dont give a damn what hes done in the past for this team he can go to hell. F Mr. Choke under pressure Jeff Garcia. last but not leat F Gruden for taking this team from 9-3 to 9-7 Ive supported them all year but right now all i can think of is taking a pipe to their heads. We have all the money in world. Pick up some F-ing real talent and maybe we could actually do something with our mother f-ing team in the playoffs and we wont have to search for diamonds in the rough like Antonio Bryant and earnest graham. Caddy is the only one i can commend out of all of this. All i can say is next year we better draft some beasts and pick up some stars in free agency because i dont think the old vets come back after this dissapointment.
Posted by: Yoshi | December 28, 2008 at 05:12 PM
Gruden doesn't execute the plays true.
However Gruden calls plays he knows his players cannot execute. A good coach works with what he has and fixes his system to suit the players he has.
Gruden and his immense ego have continued to try to fit square pegs into round holes because he will not give up on his 400 page offensive genius playbook.
Add to that how he has run good players out of town and alienated Garcia and a lot of the bench and it is clear where a huge part of the problem lies.
Wait until next year when Jay Gruden replaces Kiffen and the Gruden brothers run rampant.
Posted by: USF Dave | December 28, 2008 at 05:14 PM
I have been a fan since 1976. I was there at One Buc Place after they beat New Orleans for their first win. I've suffered enough! I'm SICK OF IT!!!!! Gruden has to go. Garcia has to go. Next year is already a joke as we enter a "rebuilding year". I just can't take it anymore. Next year I'll be pulling for a real team. Enough is enough.
Posted by: silverfox | December 28, 2008 at 05:15 PM
REMEMBER WHAT YOU DID TO US IN SAN DIEGO. GRUDEN. WELL PAYBACK IS GREAT. STAY H0ME CHUCKY 4 DA PLAYOFFS. HAHA. HEY RONDE, STILL HAVING THAT PARTY. LMAO. ONE WORD. RAID-ERS.
Posted by: raiderkeith | December 28, 2008 at 05:17 PM
Now is a perfect time to cancel your season tickets and if this paper had any marbles they would feature a link that says "I gave my tickets up and will come back when Chucky is gone". Let Chucky go live with hid buddy Tiger. It's time for to end. I will not renew my tickets for next year.

John Gruden is an offensive genius. We are lucky to have him in Tampa.
