Doug Williams' contract set to expire
There's another staff member to keep an eye on.
Personnel executive Doug Williams' contract will expire in a few weeks, leaving his status up in the air. Williams is a key member of the pro personnel department whose chief responsibilities include evaluating the team's current roster and assessing potential free agent acquisitions. Williams, for example, was a proponent of the team's decision to sign WR Antonio Bryant.
Williams has the support of coach Jon Gruden, who was largely responsible for bringing Williams onboard. That would suggest that Williams will have the option to stick around if he wishes. It remains possible, however, that Williams could have opportunities elsewhere considering all the coaching staff and front office upheaval across the league.

Doug, please dont go! ive cheered you on since 1979, and loved the Hail Dougie game (80 @min) which I have, as well has dozens of other of your games. I was so thrilled to hear you came back to us. I was so upset when you were let go and treated so poorly. It was great to see you on the floor at the 99 NFC championship game too.
Please stay

I want Doug Williams to be the next GM/VP of football operations for the Bucs. Allen and that tool Gruden must go.

Looking back at Doug's bio, he did scouting in NFL before and he coached at school and college level. I have read that he pushed for Antonio Bryant (good move) and Josh Johnson (TBD). Don't know what other acquisitions he has influenced. At this point, I will take him over Bruce. Bruce's role should be reduced to capologist. I believe that's what he did in Oakland, but I could be wrong.

Don't think I can disagree with Williams being GM. Allen can be financial supervisor and Williams personnel supervisor.

DW as GM and Allen demoted? Are you people really that stupid?

I agree Larry. Just cause he was a good QB does not mean he knows a darn thing about being a manager, and working with the cap. Allen has brought in cheap leftovers, and there has been a winning team three of the last four years. No other manager could do the same with so little money while missing draft picks. Worst thing you could ever do is waste the cap money, and hurt the teams 5 years in the future.

I would like for Doug to stay and keep evaluating the talent. He has been a college coach & recruiter, they won a lot at grambling. It isn't div 1 but winning is winning and evaluating talent at any lvl is a difficult job and doug has plenty of connections. As far as replacing Bruce Allen goes he did well with the cap, we now have room to make moves.

I would like for doug to have more influence or input on the draft. Maybe they can make him the assistant GM, let Doug bring in the talent and have Bruce Allen work the numbers he is good at that. Oh yeah the jury is still out on that 2nd rd pick Dexter Jackson u can't call a rookie a bust if he never really got a shot. He was taking out for fumbling? Clifton Smith also fumbled. Give him a chance before righting him off, Sean Payton did the same thing to Robert Meachem. No 1 gets better on the bench if u draft him play him!!!!

Larry and crisslooter, Doug Williams was a player for the Bucs. Williams is not Matt Millen. Doug Williams has a huge resume as a coach and a experience in the front office. Doug Williams should be an promoted for his hard work and evaluation as a scout. He brought in Bryant and Josh Johnson, the jury is still out for him b/c Gruden will now play young QB's. I hope Williams becomes the GM for the Bucs in the near future.

Bucco Bruce knew when it was his time to leave. Another one never should have been brought in in the first place. Gruden would be much better off without his pal as his supposed boss.

If what you say is true, it certianly gives Williams more credibility in keeping his job. I also believe he was responsible for bring Doanld Penn here. What the Bucs need to do is revamp thier draft evaluating staff.

I believe Doug Williams was also instrumental with the Bucs drafting Michael Clayton.

If he was responsible for the drafting of Michael Clayton kudos. Michael Clayton had a great rookie yr. got hurt came back 2 early & was put in the dog house by Gruden for drops. I believe Clayton will b fine with a real QB he can play & has regained his confidence. Gruden cried over Galloway not being available & when he returned he didn't really get a chance 2 play. I don't care 4 Jerry Jones & his antics but he puts the pressure on his team & coaching staff to produce a good product. Keep Williams give him a promotion he has earned it, U don't miss talent evaluaters till there gone.
