WHAT!?!?!?!?! I dont believe this. Jon Gruden may have had his faults but he would never have done this. Nor would Bruce Allen.

I don't even want to hear its about money! What reason would they possibly have to cut Brooks?
Posted by: mm | February 25, 2009 at 01:03 PM
NOT DB...NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Bastards! This can't be good. He was getting old, but he was still a key player for us last season and he will always be a BUC!! Not real happy about Warrick being let go, either. He was huge for us after Graham got hurt last season and he proved he can still play.

GOOD LUCK WITH QUINCY BLACK AND GENO HAYES AS YOUR LB'S!! WHAT GARBAGE!!! I'M DONE WITH THE BUCS. I HOPE THEY LOSE EVERY GAME. DOMINCK IS A DOUCHEBAG AND WILL NOT LAST.

I was getting excited about some of the changes after Gruden was let go but now have no clue where this team is going. DB and IH deserved to stay (even if in a reduced role). Here we go w/ the whole John Lynch thing again...

Gruden and Allen sucked and they are the reason they have to do this. The youth movement never happened. Brooks, of course, is a first ballot hall of famer but he was getting paid way too much to play part time.

Are you kidding me? Are they out of their friggin mind? I was feeling good about the coaching change and GM change until I read this. Wow, Cato June, Derrick Brooks, and Warrick Dunn should of not of been cut, period. The other three are debatable. This is a sad in Buccaneer History.

Sorry to say but it was time for Brooks. As for Dunn and Hilliard. What the #$@%. Bad move coaches.Too bad I paid for the 12th year of my season tickets already...naaa just kidding! OK..... I will be silent until I see the replacements...or are we going to be called the Replacements!!!!!

WHO IS GOING TO REPLACE BRROKS? June was suppose to! Good luck with quincy Black!
Posted by: mm | February 25, 2009 at 01:33 PM
I'm not one to go along with the crowd, but this has to be a typo. How in the freaking hell could you let any of these guys go, let alone all of them!!! Here I've been supporting the new coaching staff believing they would do the right thing. The only one that makes sense is Galloway. But the rest, you've got to be kidding me?!
You let Brooks AND June go? We have 2 banged up backs and you let Warrick go? I don't have a lot of faith in Clayton, but you mean to tell me your going to let Hillard follow him out the door? I didn't like when Gruden let players like Sapp and Lynch go, but somehow this seems even worse. It's like they want to cut all ties to Gruden. What sense does that make? Unbelievable!!!

I have lost all respect for the Owners of the Bucs now. First it was tony dungy, then john lynch, I know Mike Alstott got released because he was injured. But now there is no one left. Everyone that makes up where the Bucs have come from are gone. I know it is a business but these players are still good. They have both the experience and the talent to be part of any organization. God bless them and I hope they know how many fans are behind them all the way. I don't think I will watch a single game next year. They have lost my respect, and w/out that, what is left?

DR-flipper the great foosball god, you are rediculous. First, you want us to stop talking about Gruden and Allen , yet you are the one brining them up in your posts. Second, You say Gruden was handicapped for not playing in the NFL. Yet Parcells, Billick, Billicheck, Tomlin, even Raheem Morris all fall into that category. So what's your point, a--?
Posted by: OAR | February 25, 2009 at 01:48 PM
What you don't see if the fact that those coaches, except Morris, have earned the respect from their players. Parcells, Billicheck, Billick, earned the respect to dog players out. Gruden didn't and you can't argue that. Those guys faced their players like men and weren't regarded as backstabbers by ex players. Gruden never earned the respect like those guys and started losing it when he paid a player not to play. It went down hill from there. Kicking a FG to avoid a shut out doesn't win your players over either. That was rather embarrassing.

DR, whatever you skate around things I call you out on. What an a--. Again what does not playing in the NFL have to do with being handicapped as a coach? Your words not mine!
Posted by: OAR | February 25, 2009 at 03:33 PM
It is well beyond your understanding oar. You have to play football to understand that comment.
Posted by: DR | February 25, 2009 at 04:20 PM
Getting respect is tougher for a coach that has never played NFL football than it is for guys who did. That's not a quote from me, that is a quote by many coaches and players. Watch more football, on and off the field football before you make any more stupid comments.

This sucks. I don't understand cutting Cato June who has been playing out of position since he's been here. Maybe if we had moved him to Derrick's spot, his natural position, he would have played better. Cato didn't even play bad to begin with so I just don't understand completely diminishing our LB's in one move. I will miss Derrick and I'll keep my fingers crossed that either he or June resigns. If not, we need to grab a FA for sure, maybe even two.

Greatest Buc ever... well, since Jaquez Green.

Geno Hayes will replace Brooks...he'd be my best candidate unless they find someone they like in free agency.
Posted by: GTSkyrider | February 25, 2009 at 07:24 PM
Derrick Brooks was a Pro-Bowler last year with a renegotiated contract that was only around $3 million.
Are the Bucs new GM crazy?
Posted by: John | February 25, 2009 at 08:06 PM
Releasing Derrick Brooks is the beginning of bad year already. The coach will only last one year and the new GM will out in 2-3 years, Everyone will look back on this as a stupid rookie mistake by management. Why release a veteran core player from the team? No one can replace a DB and to try to fill his spot. DB is the foundation and the heart of the defense. Don't be surprised if the Patriots pick him up.. Nice move coach.

Looks like fan response to this move is resoundingly negative. What a surprise! The thing is...no one here knows the real reasons behind this. No one here spent time in the Bucs locker room or practice field last year. I would agree that Lynch had several more good years in Denver, but the Bucs secondary didn't exactly fall apart after he left. Sapp had one good year in Oakland, while the Bucs defensive line continued to sack QBs. Overall, the Bucs continued to be ranked near the top of the defensive standings. Emotionally, Lynch was very important to Bucs fans, but in the end, it's not emotion that defines success in the NFL. (Everybody say it all together now...it's just business!)
I'm just saying...let's wait and see how this plays out before deciding we know what's best for the franchise. If we don't see improvements in team play within a couple of seasons, Morris & Dominik will be gone...Morris & Dominik themselves know that.

This is the biggest crock of S%#&! What ever happened to front office integrity? Couldn't just give him one more season and leave the decision to Derrick. There is no way Geno is going to play as good as DB next season! He is too much of a class act to get treated like this. CLASSLESS, CLASSLESS, CLASSLESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I moved to Colorado 10 years ago. Maybe it's time to join the Bronco fans!
