Keep eye on Vilma; What about Haynesworth?

As the night goes on, we're getting stronger indications of the Bucs' interest in Saints free agent LB Jonathan Vilma.

His is a name we'd heard before, but it seems to keep popping up, so we're definitely paying heed. Vilma was traded to the Saints from the Jets last year. New Orleans wants to retain him, but because of a technicality in the trade, the Saints couldn't do a contract extension with him before the start of free agency.

That means the Bucs and others will get their crack at him, and it's likely a call to Vilma will be one of the first placed from One Buc Place after the 12:01 kickoff to free agency.

On the Albert Haynesworth front, there's a lot of speculation but very little concrete information. We know about the Redskins' reported interest in the mammoth Tennessee defensive tackle, but we've been unable to get a true read of the Bucs' position.

I will, however, say this much: it doesn't appear they've ruled him out, though I'm going to stop well short of predicting them making a serious effort to land him tonight.

That would be absolutely funny as hell if we could sign Vilma from under the Saints' noses.

I would love to see Vilma in a bucs uniform, as far as Haynesworth goes I'm still not sure if hr would be worth that much money.

Yeah you're stronger indications is called reading Pewter Report. I'm surprised you drew the line there and didn't repeat their news on Haynesworth too. After all they reported it last week.

Check out these articles for some real Buc coverage:

Clubber Lang pities the fool who only reads Holder or piles of Stroud.

I'm almost hoping that Haynesworth gets re-signed right before FA starts so that option is off the table. If he's going to cost what the experts think he will, DAMN, that is a s##t load of money for one guy.

HayesNC

Are the signings going to be posted here as they come in?

Vilma is a BEAST! Much more raw talent than Haynesworth (my opinion of course) at a bargain price.

Yoshi

What better person to fill the void than someone from THE U!!!!!!!

Jasonhouse

An hour in and Haynesworth's agent is already reported to have been in contact with 6 teams (per espn.com), who have all thrown out prelim numbers around $15mil per season, with $30-40 of it guaranteed.

Please Bucs, do not sign this guy for that kind of loot!
