Will Allen re-signs on 1-year contract
S Will Allen didn't remain a free agent for long. The team has re-signed the veteran backup to a one-year contract that will pay about $1.83-million but has a maximum value of $2.35-million.
Allen lost his starting job in 2007 but has been a key reserve and was the Bucs' special-teams captain in 2008.
With starting SS Jermaine Phillips still unsigned, the Bucs certainly need depth at the position. Even if Phillips is re-signed, Allen is a big contributor on special teams, which makes him valuable.

Who cares!! What about Phillips? What about Clayton? What about Bradshaw? When is this team going to bring in some real talent?

Good news to see Allen coming back. He's a solid player and it's not like we were going to find someone markedly better for the same money or less.
The Bucs continue to do what I expected them to do... Do their best to have as little monetary obligations as possible this year and next.
Don't be surprised to see the Bucs renegotiate contracts that front load player salaries into this season to meet the cap floor, and then have the lowest payroll they've had in at least a decade next season when there is no floor.
It's becoming increasingly obvious to me that the Glazers are bilking the Bucs franchise for every penny they can, so that they don't default on payments for ManU's massive debt.

Good get the cheap guys out of the way. NOW PAY PHILLIPS!!!!!!!!

This is bulll! What about P-Buc and how bout Tank Johnson or Andre Davis. Come on give us something cause this is starting to b boring. Lets make a effort and get some guys in here. Don't forget T.J. or Washington.

Stephen, have you heard any news on what might be keeping Phillips from signing? Is it simply about money, cause I'm thinkin' they could probably afford a lil extra (HELLO $61mil)?!?
Posted by: Cinemike | February 28, 2009 at 05:11 PM
No kidding lets shop alittle.
Posted by: joe | February 28, 2009 at 05:14 PM
Do you people realize this takes time, other teams are calling. They want to hear other offers, this is not Madden. Just because you want a player it takes time. There are 31 other teams in this league trying to sign players also. How is re-signing Allen bull? It's a process people. Stephen I don't know why you respond sometimes.
Posted by: common sense | February 28, 2009 at 05:18 PM
Can you blame FA players not wanting to come here, we have a young rookie head coach & GM, no-name QBs with big ? mark, just dumped 5 vets without good replacements on hand first. their not showing any positive direct as to were the team in headed. The only way we'll get good FAs here is to offer them generous incentives. Pay them & give us fans some hope!
Posted by: venice4 | February 28, 2009 at 05:21 PM
Geat, we re-signed the wrong safety... Will Allen is GARBAGE! Where's Flip and T-Buc? We spent nearly $2 mil on a guy we could have waited until after the draft to re-sign for the league minimum.
Posted by: Brandon | February 28, 2009 at 05:23 PM
We don't want brittle bones, and all I want to do is make a highlight hit Phillips back. Let him go, we have Sabby and whoever it was that said Will Allen is nothing, apparently wants to watch the Bucs opponents score on kick off returns all day!
Posted by: Valrico Rick | February 28, 2009 at 05:23 PM
Will Allen is the capitan of our special teams. Do you people really watch the games? Or just sit there with a beer in your hands talking %^#^!
Posted by: common sense | February 28, 2009 at 05:26 PM
Thats what I'm talking bout v4. The Glazers need to get more fans butts in the seats. And if we don't hear any big names then it really doesn't give us a chance to compete this season, even tho winslow was a good sign. Sorry Mr. sense if us people don;t have your kind of patience.
Posted by: joe | February 28, 2009 at 05:37 PM
Will Allen was a good resign he is a good backup that can play either safety position. He is the captain on special teams like Val stated. If you all have been looking around Andrea Davis has signed and TJ isn't interested in coming here at all. Clayton and Phillips are looking around but it's mainly to see how much they are worth. I think they both will resign here, i'm not sure i don't personally know either of them. I'm more interested in Khalif Barnes at this time.

Seeing all the fans melt down is better than any free agent we could have signed. Not really trying to rag on anyone, but it is funny.
I'm just surprised Bucs are wasting so much energy on trades instead of arranging visits and seeing a free agent or two they might like. It's not like they couldn't do a trade last week or next week or around draft time. There is only one open to free agency and they are taking the time to discuss contacted players.
I like bringing Allen back only because the Bucs don't have enough draft picks to fill in all the depth on defense. They are going to need solid backups and Allen is decent and is a very good special teams player. I really like Flip, but you have to wonder if his arm can take the abuse anymore. He can't help if he's not on the field.

42 hours into free agency, 61 million to spend and Bucs resign Will Allen???????? Their only signing???? YIKES!!!!!! Could be long season.

Mr.(common sense), I never just sit with a beer in my hand. My hand is 98.6 degrees and it heats up my beer way to rapidly, kinda like how quickly the Skins smoofed the Bucs on Big Haynesie. I drink my Beer before it gets warm. Dummynick could have signed Will Allen last month. The cheap little punk is going to scrimp and save us right to an 0-48 record for the next three years. These two morons, make more bad decisions than NASCAR. It looks like the only BlockBuster deal Dummynick is going to pull off is a $5 movie rental.

Just wait until DB signs with Patriots and is starting WLB for next 3 years, that will not be good

0-16. yay. Bring Gru back.
Posted by: Roddy Piper | February 28, 2009 at 07:19 PM
well doctor,
If you do not think it is possible Derrick Brooks could sign with Patriots you area very ignorant person and hardly worth my comments. I follow football more than you ever will. The term moron springs to mind, which I am afraid you are.
Posted by: Harvey Arndt | February 28, 2009 at 07:26 PM
Guys I realy dont care at this point, I still feel like I have been hit by a truck about the treatment brooks got from the bucs, they at least could have asked him to retire and put him on the coaching staff.
If he goes to the right team like steelers or patriots he can have another ring and proove the cheap glazers wrong
Posted by: willem | February 28, 2009 at 07:32 PM
TJ "Housh" is coming in for a visit tomorrow according to a reliable "source". I can't say who because they will block my comment here but look hard enough and you'll find it. The site's initials are P.R.

NFL network said it too

TJ Whoseyourmama is overrated. And hardly a young player to build around.
Posted by: Roddy Piper | February 28, 2009 at 08:05 PM
I don't have the Dish so I don't get NFL Network. The Dish really is better than Cable though lol. I don't think "Housh" is overrated. You are right that he isn't a young guy to build around but I do think he would help. If we could sign "Housh" and Ward, I think our offense would be in the top 10 next year, for a change.
Posted by: ty guy | February 28, 2009 at 08:15 PM
This friking sux ..Coles, TJ, Washington, hey how about Marvin Harrison who may have a little something to prove.. Warner? Hell why not.. I mean I guess Im ok with Mccown. Greise, and Josh Johnson. Winslow? He better have something to prove i mean we already have like 15 tight ends now.
Christ it would sure be nice to at least show a little bit of want to.. I just remember the Rahheem interview with Glazer boy saying "WE HEAR YOU FANS.. Well hear us now.. WE ARNET HAPPY BUY SOME BIATCHES AND HELP US FEEL BETTER ABOUT FIRING ALL OUR LEGENDS.. MAKE A SPALSH PLEASE
Posted by: Mike/Orlando | February 28, 2009 at 08:30 PM
The plan at 1 Suc Place is to trade all the draft picks away so they dont have to sign any rookies to any guaranteed money deals. We have dumb and dumber running the show. They make Gruden and Allen look like certified rocket surgeons! Good thing they wasted a 2nd and a 5th on Winslow when they could have gotten Cassel and Vrabel for just the 2nd! Morons. This stinks of Glazer Poo. Those greedy fools are destroying the franchise just to suck cash out of it to pay for ManU. It's obvious now that buying the Bucs and paying to make them contenders was a short term strategy for them to have a means of making more money with a bigger investment for the long term. We as fans deserve better and should boycot the Bucs to prove the point: angry fans = less profit!

I am Glad to hear that TJ is coming for a visit. If we can sign him he will be of enormous value to AB as the #2 WR and take some pressure off. Now, where is Canty? Anybody know? I am very hopeful that we can get Harvin from FL at # 19 in the draft and that should help out EG, Caddy and AB cause he will have to be accounted for as well. I think everyone needs to calm down, grab that Jack and Coke, pop a xanax or whatever, but you wont make the issues go away any faster than the players can be contacted and talked to. Think about it, if you were a player, would you take the first offer - or would you go around and find out what everyone has to offer and then make an educated decision? That does not mean that I dont also wish that things were moving along but come on, think about it.

Derrick Ward is still there...I think...& a good quality 1000yd bruiser back. They should get him. He will only be about $10 Mil for 3 yrs. The Bucs Need D Linemen and Dummynick is missing the Bus. Canty & Bernard are still good big linemen with strong motors. I don't care if they had huge sack numbers last year, we need serious help on Defense. We missed the good LB's. I think Crowder is still available. TJ Houshman would be fine if we get him. No complaints there, but that Idiot & his Buddy need to shore up this Defense before the last few players are gone. If we don't sign any of these defensive players, we will have the same underachieving group we had, plus maybe one rookie draft pick. That's it. He gave up our 2'nd pick. Build the team up and draft a QB next year. Lastly, every player has an asking price, I guarantee it. If you meet it to begin with & offer bonus or incentives on top, they will accept the deal in almost every instance.

Snooze, you lose.
Posted by: BucFandango | February 28, 2009 at 09:29 PM
TJ is coming, but not to sign. Nobody wants to play for a no class coach with no credit to his name. He's just coming to get his asking price elevated. The Bucs will be trading down in the draft as well, to lower their payroll expense. But hey, at least they'll still be able to get above the salary floor, eh Stacy?

I miss Gruden.
Posted by: Roddy Piper | February 28, 2009 at 09:36 PM
Well...here we go again folks!! For weeks we're led to believe that the Bucs are gonna be major players in FA, and what happens?! The best we can come up with is ANOTHER RAIDER at a position we're already good at...AND MICHAEL BUSH??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME ?! This is pathetic. The Broncos, who didn't have half our cap space have scooped up six decent free agents, and we couldn't outbid KC for Cassell for a 2nd round pick?!? Hell if you're gonna give the job to McCown anyway, Kitna would have been a decent fourth QB...and now he's in Dallas. What happened to Derrick Ward?? Hey Glazers, I'll tell ya something about ManU...It's about time you guys MANUP!!!
Posted by: noleriff | February 28, 2009 at 10:12 PM
Glazers, please sell this sinking ship to someone who cares about real, American Football! Not soccer.

Pewter Report.com is reporting Michael Clayton has agreed to a 5 year deal to stay with the Bucs. He apparently turned down more money from Detroit and Seattle to stay here. He might be a good blocking wr, but I have to say I am disapointed he is back.
Posted by: Michael | February 28, 2009 at 11:05 PM
confirmed 5 yr deal with clayton
Posted by: conradbuff | March 01, 2009 at 12:10 AM
id be more interested in darrell jackson and michael jenkins instead of hosyurmomma i dont know why so many peolpe are begging for an aging player who will have a high price tag
Posted by: conradbuff | March 01, 2009 at 12:12 AM
Yea, I saw Clayton was back too, I just hope that we don't cancel the visit with "Housh" because we have Clayton back in the fold. Clayton is able to be a no. 2 reciever but has the chance to be a great no. 3 reciever. "Housh" would be a great no. 2 reciever. TJ said he would like to play with Adrian Peterson because of all the one on ones he would get. What if he could play with Bryant and Winslow? Talk about a lot of one on ones.
Posted by: ty guy | March 01, 2009 at 12:16 AM
Wow we got Clayton back. That is so totally awesome. Why would 0-16 Detroit want another Buc reject? We are heading for 0-48. A new NFL record. The 2 geniuses have garnered more nicknames in the last few weeks than Chucky & Allen did in the last 7 years. I can't wait to see what Batsman & the Boy Wonder have planned for the Draft. Maybe they will find a way to trade down and give up players at the same time.

This is Mo-ron-ik! Bring Gruden back.
Posted by: Dave | March 01, 2009 at 09:25 AM
You can't use the arguement that they're not cheap because they fired Gruden and Allen and are paying 2 HC's and 2 GM's. Gruden would have pushed for Haynesworth. Gruden would have pushed for Housyourmama. Gruden would have wanted Antonio Bryant signed to a long term deal by now. We all know that Allen would probably at least have signed ONE big name free agent. This whole deal stinks of frugality. I wanted to give Morris a chance, but as the days go by things are getting much worse in my book. They say they are rebuilding with a youth movement, yet they trade good draft picks for a mediocre TE. They could have gotten way more with those picks in trade. You don't rebuild by trading away your future. The Mo-ron-ik twins are walking contradictions. Yeah, they have a plan: do whatever Darth Glazer says.
