Crowell meeting with Bills Monday
Just an update on Bills free agent linebacker Angelo Crowell.
He's meeting with Buffalo officials on Monday. Crowell and the Bucs have had preliminary talks on a contract, as we told you earlier this week. It's most likely a one-year deal, according to a post on NFL.com.
At some point within the next few weeks, he has to make a decision. The Bucs and other teams need to turn their attention to the NFL draft and it helps to know which positions have been covered during the first round of free agency.
Regardless of what happens to Crowell, the Bucs are very confident in Quincy Black, who is projected as a strong side linebacker; and Geno Hayes, who plays the weakside. Adam Hayward just needs to settle on a position.

I wish the rest of us shared that confidence, but not all of us do!

what happes when black gets hurt? is brian griese going to play lb there is absolutly no depth on the d-line or at lb i thinks its a bit much to ask that not a single player od defense get hurt the entire 09 season. im ok with the starters but some depth must be added
Posted by: conradbuff | March 13, 2009 at 05:33 PM
Glad they are so confident, still need to fill the void left when we cut two starting LBs, so even if it for depth we need to fill roster spots. Problem is, it is hard to attract free agents if they don't think they will start. That is probably the holdup with Crowell.
Posted by: jerseybuc | March 13, 2009 at 05:34 PM
Depth. What about Nikoooooooooooooooo? They also have McCoy at Middle linebacker from last year. So they have five returning backers and Nikooooooooooooooooo.
Still, the Bucs have no bigger linebackers that are supposedly needed for the new system. Crowell is a bigger linebacker.

Stop Pusssssy footing around and sign Crowell he lays the wood and can fly to the ball!!
Posted by: D Block | March 13, 2009 at 07:08 PM
Ok let me be the 1st to say that i like the youth movement in a way. But Torry Holt!! is available let's can that crap for him & sign him! He would be the best WR on the team no disrespect to Bryant but the numbers don't lie. Torry Holt Torry Holt Torry Holt Torry Holt Torry Holt Torry Holt Torry Holt!!!!!
Posted by: D Block | March 13, 2009 at 07:15 PM
Worst case scenario we can sign him & trade him for something like a 2nd or 3rd rd pick or package him with something in a deal.
Posted by: D Block | March 13, 2009 at 07:17 PM
I agree with D Block, Torry Holt and Samari Rolle when he's released this weekend. Rolle would be good to fill a Corner and both would be good veteran influences.
Posted by: bigchet | March 13, 2009 at 07:38 PM
If we can't sign this guy then we will draft a LB in the 1st round in my opinion.
Posted by: ty guy | March 13, 2009 at 08:07 PM
Guys
There is plenty of time, there is still the draft and several players will become available in june. The last thing we want is to sign people for the sake of signing people.
Posted by: Randy C | March 13, 2009 at 08:39 PM
The Tampa Two is taking on a whole new meaning - it looks like we'll only be able to play two players at a time, since we don't even have warm bodies!
Posted by: Charles | March 13, 2009 at 08:47 PM
I agree with Randy you just dont start to sign players just to have warm bodies on your roster.
Question: Was any body even talking about Crowell 1 month ago as being a improuvement to our team.............NO!!
you want veteran presence at this point I say so sign brian dawkins and tory holt, and just waith until the draft there will be alot more quality players being cut the create cap space for the draft.

NEWS FLASH: the bucs are looking for veterens?
have you not heard a word the bucs management team said over the last 2 months willem? brian dawkins was signed by the broncos 2nd day of free agency buddy.
Posted by: conradbuff | March 13, 2009 at 10:10 PM
and yes crowell was mentioned as 1 of the players bucs would tagret once they released all their veterens 1 month ago
Posted by: conradbuff | March 13, 2009 at 10:10 PM
A veteren at wide reciever?
What's the difference between Torry Holt and Joey Galloway or Ike Hilliard? There all 33 and up? Joey has better speed and Ike has great hands and reliability. Either way they would be the number 3 WR. What's the difference?

With the First overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccanneers select ?????
Posted by: Mike/Orlando | March 13, 2009 at 10:53 PM
at least we'd all have something to look foward to on draft day...haha
Posted by: bucfaninphx | March 13, 2009 at 10:57 PM
the Eagles are interested in Crowell. We cant lose this guy to the Eagles, of all teams...
Posted by: bucfaninphx | March 13, 2009 at 10:59 PM
oeps my bad on dawkins I have been kinda busy lately missed the bronco signing.
I am convinced they will bring in some vetaran leadership the reason I think management cut alot of the old veteran players had to do with making a statment (you might not agree on it) and there style they are going to play in. I dont think they will go with only, black, hayes and hayward and ruud as there veteran on LB.
Joey was injury prone last season and they couldnt get him on the field with bryant, yes Holt why not as a number 2 because who is our number 2 then Clayton I project him as a over paid 3
Posted by: willem | March 13, 2009 at 11:48 PM
Willem" We will all excuse your comments we haven't seen you in a while. The bucs don't plan on signing or entertaining players in there 30's. I understand the theory but it doesn't mean everyone over 30 doesn't have 4 yrs left in the tank. But Domonick & Raheem are on a 4-5 yr crusade it may get us to a Championship! No one knows just yet it's only the offseason. They are returning 10 starters on offense one of them are heading to the bench due to Winslow so that's a major inprovement! But only 6 on Defense that's what needs to be addressed in my opinion! That's D line & LB
Posted by: D Block | March 14, 2009 at 10:53 AM
Ok i just looked at Buc insider and they had a piece on the new head strength & conditioning coach. He had a few players in early fri the new work out regiment seems to specify on the core of the body (abs, back, neck & shoulders) & flexibility. That tells me that there should be less injury and players will be stronger for a longer period of time. More stamina so forth i don't know what the old regiment consisted of but this one sounds prtetty good if it is true. Troy Polamolu has one of the best i have seen and is very intense and rewarding.

Julian Peterson has been traded to Det for a 5th rd pick & Corey Redding!! Whatz going on in TAMPA!
Posted by: D Block | March 14, 2009 at 03:15 PM
Galloway has signed with the Patriots!!! This will be interesting during the London game Galloway, Moss & Welker lol. We really neeed a DT LB & CB!! ASAP. I'm one of the positive bloggers but it looks like a PROBLEM!!!

The more and more I see Morris and Dominick's "plan" unfold, the more i think they need to be drug tested. With that being said, I have really been looking at the DTs in the draft. I really think Tampa might use there 1st round as a LB and try to get Chris Baker in the 3rd. Chris Baker has Tampa written all over him. Like Tailb he has had off the field problems but watch tape on him. Hes big strong and fast and handles double teams well. They are saying he might go 2-3 because of his off the field problems that got him out of Penn State. Hell they said Dre Moore was suppose to go in the second and tampa got him in the fourth. Chris Baker is 6'3 326 perfect for Bates system and would be a great 3rd round pick. Baker had 16.5 TFL and 8.5 sacks this year. Hes got the tools and would be a steal in the 3rd.
Posted by: GoBucs | March 14, 2009 at 05:59 PM
Are you talking about the guy from Hampton?
Posted by: D Block | March 14, 2009 at 06:06 PM
Wasting a 1st rounder on a DT would only be worth it if it was BJ Raji and hes not going to fall to 19th. Ron Brace I saw people post but, they has he benefited alot being next to Raji. Brace hardly ever got double teamed and he lacks natural pass rushing ability. And Evandor Hood lacks true size like Jerry most reports say about him. LB for Tampa's first rounder and try and grab Baker in 3rd would be nice.

Kalif Barnes given chance to win starting LT job, signs 1 year deal with the Raiders

Mike/Orlando the Bucs select a longsnapper with first pick from the smallest ncaa school, huge cost savings for Glasers
Posted by: Harvey Arndt | March 14, 2009 at 06:53 PM
I'm not surprised at Barnes signing there. I wanted Barnes to sign here but something is obviously wrong with him Jax cut him several teams had him in for interviews but chose not to sign him. That is strange in itself to me.

Boy draft day is going to be fun... I bet the wonder twins Morris and Duh-menik will trade their first round pick for a package of 5th 6th and 7th round picks so that they won't have to pay any high dollar rookie salaries. I saw them on Dale Mabry yesterday picking up aluminum cans with the Glazer boys. Man those guys are cheap!
Posted by: Dave | March 14, 2009 at 07:31 PM
If Lions would take Curry #1 they would have awesome LB's
Posted by: Harvey Arndt | March 14, 2009 at 07:56 PM
By the way, I ran into Raheem and Mark the other day. They were bargain basement shopping for re-cycled NFL players at the Goodwill store on Gandy.
I believe they left empty handed. The asking prices must have been more than they were willing to pay.
There's a nasty rumor going around about the draft day selection. Rumor has it they plan on drafting a virtual unknown with their 1st round pick. The selection is willing to relieve some of the Glazer's Man-U debt by paying the origanization $40Million a year over 5 years. I shouldn't be giving you his name. You didn't get this from me, but his initials are BG and he had something to do with starting Microsoft.
Still enjoying life and enjoying bashing the Glazer's for firing um-wah. Read between the line's in the humor and you'll understand the truth.

Perry is 300 pounds, that isn't really undersized, especially since lineman tend to add a little weight once they hit the NFL. Personally, I like him more than Raji. He did more damage against better offensive lines. The knock I'd see on Jerry is that he is 25, that seems a bit old for a rookie DT to me. Seattle traded for Cory Redding, so they may not be looking for a DT, so Jerry may still be there at 19.
I think the Bucs may look to trade down for two picks. There looks to be a couple big names left when the Bucs pick, so it might be possible. If they go with Freeman at 19 I will die. There don't seem to be great LB talent where they pick. I'd mark out for the Road Warrior, but don't think he's a good pick. Plus, there seems to be several sleeper LB's this year that both have size and are fast.
I think the talk about Hood and the Bucs thinking Jerry is too small is just a smokescreen. They don't want someone else taking their guy.
Galloway may be interesting, but when the Pats sign DB it will become heartbreaking. The Bucs will have given up a home game to go to London, twice the distance that the Pats go, to get beaten down by DB. Why is this a Bucs home game again? Maybe ManU players can be cheerleaders for the game.
Posted by: aj | March 14, 2009 at 08:29 PM
Yes Jerry is 25 and the quote is " Jerry does not have great size or bulk. Frame is close to being maxed out." It also says he is not strong or powerful. And it says hes been pushed around in games by bigger linemen. So Jerry would not be a good first rounder to me. And yes Chris Baker from Hampton. Look at his stats and game tape. The bad notch on Baker is off field issues which i said before. Baker ran a 5.02 40-yard dash and has a 35.5 vertical jump at 6'2 326 hmmmmm need i say more? Thats a athlete. Back to the point i was making in my other post... Tampa could get a great LB for their 19th and nab Chris Baker yes from Hampton in the 3rd. He was predicted 2-3. t like i said before Dre Moore was predicted as a second rounder and Tampa got him in the 4th.
Posted by: GoBucs | March 15, 2009 at 05:15 AM
Jerry is also injury prone. He had knee surgery before the 2008 season. I know I also posted I wanted Jerry before but found out more about him. Like I said before if you can't get Raji in the 1st its not worth drafting a DT in lst because all the other ones (besides Jerry) are being said to go 2-3s.
Posted by: GoBucs | March 15, 2009 at 05:23 AM
If we could get someone like Cris Baker in the 3rd that would be very nice. Of course if we do, there will be that wave of fans that criticize his off field issues and blame Dom and Raheem for brining in another "Thug". But after that blows over I think we will be in good shape with the pick.
In the first I would like to go after a LB or DE. I'm hoping one of the top LB's fall to 19. If not a DE like Johnson or English should be around at our 1st pick.
Posted by: HayesNC | March 15, 2009 at 09:09 AM
Well that no name corner, Karl Paymah, just signed with the Vikes. So yes, again, the plan seems to be working wonders. I guess I'll go try out for linebacker.
Posted by: Charles | March 15, 2009 at 12:02 PM
Yes, the plan, is to bring in players, look at them and let them sign elsewhere. Make it appear interested in improving team, but always fall a little short. I do not like this "plan" at all. Bucs need better players. Didn't Raheem say in an interview that he wanted to compete for championship every year? It looks like only thing Bucs will be in competition for is 1st over all pick in next years draft.
Posted by: Harvey Arndt | March 15, 2009 at 01:26 PM
Hey, 1st in the draft is 1st in something, I guess! We are the only team in the NFC South without a proven winner under center, that has to count for something, huh? There's not a single D lineman who can draw a double team, that's pretty respectful, huh? What a plan the Mor-on-Ik twins have!
Posted by: Dave | March 15, 2009 at 03:13 PM
Hey "dv7401" it's better then having Delhomme he is a proven looser in my opinion lol. Give Luke a chance we are all frustrated over not landing what we fans call key FA. Everything will be alright one way or another. But we can't judge the new regime until week 8 of the regular season. Or end of the season we are not the only ones with a tough schedule. We play the nfc east & the afc east. Trust me when i say the nfc east isn't looking forward to playing the nfc south either. These two divisions have been battling over the rights to the Best division for a while.
Posted by: D Block | March 15, 2009 at 08:20 PM
D Block the NFC south is improving with the exception of the Bucs. 61 million, and they do nothing to improve a very weak defense. Watch last 4 games last year and tell me there is defensive tackle on this team that should be starting????? Bates will have to blitz 7 on every play to get any qb pressure or stop the run. And people will blame him because defense is pitiful! He needs players, not just undrafted rookies
