Jermaine Phillips making the rounds

SS Jermaine Phillips spent Tuesday with the Chargers and is expected to now visit with the Seahawks.

Phillips would help the Chargers address a position of need, and they seem intrigued by the veteran. General manager A.J. Smith told the team's website, "Jermaine is a talented, physical veteran and we were excited to have an opportunity to get to know him better. He's played a role on some very good defenses. We enjoyed visiting with him."

No word yet on whether a contract offer was tendered or if talks are continuing. Bucs GM Mark Dominik said Tuesday he remains in contact with Phillips' agent, indicating the team still has a desire to re-sign him.

Dominik, you need to sign this guy now! We need Vet leaders in that locker room. Stop negotiations with Stevens and worry about the important guys on this team.

The..Bucs...win

Noooo...don't let him go. We need a couple of defensive vets here. You better pull a Clayton on him and get him before he gets to Seattle. We need this guy!!!!

DEFENSE,DEFENSE,DEFENSE,DEFENSE,DEFENSE,DEFENSE!!!!

Lets be smart and grab this guy now...before he realizes what he is worth!!!!

GO BUCS!!!

ty guy

Even if he decides that he is worth a ton of money why can't we give it to him? If we were truely interested in re signing him we would have met his demands already because we are rich as a foot up a bull's you know what. Come on guys we need Phillips. Sabby can play in certain situations but I just don't think he can be a full time starter just yet. I'm sorry.

Robert

Actuallt, hurry and finish with Stevens and make Phillips your next priority. There is a reason every receiver in the NFL always wants to know where this guy is on the field! He softens guys up before they ever touch the ball!

mm

Flip is the best safety available right now in free agency. The Bucs make sure that Clayton doesn't board a flight but they can't come to an agreement with #23? ridiculous.

Yoshi

I couldnt agree more with you guys. J-Phil and Buchanon should be the priority over stevens. I truly hope that they re-sign him. He has been a head bussa for years and im sorry to say he is way better than sabby. Plus, we need some more leadership on defense. Bottom line, LETS GET HIM BACK!

This situation is particularly confusing to me. It was Phillips who took a step back when Raheem left to go to K State, and when he returned, so did Flip's game. Jermaine and Raheem seem close, the D backfield is the coach's sweet spot, and Raheem has publicly said he wants the team to be more "physical".
Who is our most "physical" player?

Add to that the loss of vets, Brooks, Garcia, June, Dunn and Hilliard, where is the veteran leadership going to come from on this team with a 32 year old rookie HC?

CaptFear88

I DO think we need Flip but not sure about P-Buc...of course a threatening DT would be good for ALL!

Garick

If they don't resign Phillips, then we've got a real problem. Not only because we can't afford to lose him, but that just gives more weight to the idea that some players aren't signing with us because we don't have the upfront money to give them, or we just don't have it at all. Ugh. Hope neither is the case, but sure seems like something is off.

Larry

Got to agree with the group here. I think that signing Phillips should be a high priority. Either the Chargers GM is a great poker player or they aren't going to get together, but the Seahawks may be another story.

Robert

We need to get this guy signed! I was just on Chargers web site and he is there top story. It looks like they really like him after he spent 2 days there with the team! We have enough pieces we have to put in place and we need our leaders! You want a tough, physical team?? Then it's obvious you keep a guy that has WR's shaking in their pants the second theirt number is called and they have to come into the middle of the field! Or a RB who is about to try and run it in between the tackles and knows FLIP is going to rock their world! This guy defines what the Bucs defense has been known for since Monte took over. We didn't miss a beat when Lynch left. I just wonder if the lenght of the contract is holding things up and not the money. He could want a 6 year deal and the BUCS may only want to give a 4 because Sabby is there and FLIP is almost 30. That all being said, GET HIM SIGNED NOW!!!

GTSkyrider

It makes no sense to lose FLIP, this guy is a beast and can be a leader for the team. We've missed soooo many signings so what's up????!!! Let's at least secure FLIP, you brought back Allen, who I thought we'd actually let go. If you do let FLIP go ....GET SEAN JONES!!!! THAT IS THE ONLY OTHER OPTION!

conradbuff

darren sharper would fill in fine as well. one thing ive been thinking of that may work as well is move tenard jackson to ss and pick up mccalister to play fs rather than cb. it coul work but agree with most of you the best opton is to resign phillips

willem

I have been saying this for months now sign flip, problem is I doubt if he still wants to sign in tampa after this exodes of players and the way we treated our long time vets plus being un able to make a decent fa move, I think for a guy with the ambition jermaine I think he will look for a contender who wants to win NOW and not in 2 years

Mike/Orlando

With the 1st overall pick in the 2010 NFL DRAFT The Tampa Bay Buccaneers select ???????

BucFandango

Just re-signed as a Buc

jerseybuc

Dominik is a better poker player than we give him credit for.
