Weekend tryouts yield Buccaneer roster spots

The Buccaneers have done a little roster shuffling in the wake of the weekend's rookie mini-camp.

The team has announced the signings of WR Pat Carter (Louisville), T Demar Dotson (Southern Miss), RB Kareem Huggins (Hofstra), CB Evan McCollough (James Madison). As we foreshadowed on Sunday, the team also added USF prospects DE Jarriett Buie OL Marc Dile and WR Amarri Jackson.

To make room, WR Paris Warren, T Andre Douglas and CB Greg Fassitt were released.

There are now 15 undrafted free agents on the roster, which is at its offseason maximum of 80 players after today's moves. Last week's six draft picks will not count against the roster until they officially sign their contracts which doesn't typically happen until the summer.

The absence of any news on James Madison QB Rodney Landers indicates the Bucs decided against signing him. Coach Raheem Morris raved about Landers on Sunday and raised the prospect of adding him as a special-teams specialist. Morris put Landers through an individual workout after the mini-camp and said he would mull the idea of offering Landers a contract. At least for now, it looks like that didn't happen.

Sir Pritam the Great of England

Released Paris Warren?

That's surprising

D Block

Hey fellow fans some of you may not like this but all of this years draft will have a spot on this team and possibly 3 or 4 of the rookie FA. The bucs have done a lot of good scouting after looking at the moves they made. I have to give them a lil credit for some of the acqusitions, Freeman i was against for several reasons. I feel he was a project but he is a physical freak at QB and he also has Big Ben size you remember what he did his rookie yr. I know we don't have pitts D but this offense should be more potent then ever. A good running game can make a Qb look great.

TrueBucFan

Good points D Block, but Freeman will be a project. He has alot of talent and size but in OTAs Luke or Leftwich will beat him out. Both are more NFL ready and have a jump on the play book. Freeman will really have to cram and not make any rookie mistakes in camp if he wants to start. Goodluck to all of them. The rookie I think who is going to be an instant impact is Sammie Stroughter. Watched him in college. He is a play maker. And alot of guys had him as their sleeper in the draft. He can be the other deep threat Tampa has been looking for. He is alot like Eddie Royal for the Broncos. All the coaches are already talking about him. Goodluck Sammie. OTAs and training camp is really going to be interesting. Also Bates said they still got their eye on FAs that are going to be released for more defense too.

Bretterson

I agree with TrueBucFan. Watch out for Sammie Stroughter. I go to school at Washington State and follow the Pac-10 regularly. Sammie was always a solid, underrated player for Oregon State. I'm thrilled he's a Buc now!

Erick

It may be naive but I have high hopes for this team this year. Some might argue that the Defense has taken a hit but the offense should more than offset the losses, if the D is actually worse which I'm not sure about. That said, there were a couple of games the Bucs one last year against quality teams and I believe they are a better team now. This schedule is rough but loke you guys have mentioned the Coaching staff seems to have done a pretty good job with their personnel decisions and drafting.

I think the running back from hofstra and Biggers from Western Mich will be bigger surprises. Roy Miller and Kyle Moore i expect to be impact players this year. Go Bucs

BucFandango

I think Freeman has plenty of time and will start in Week 1. Good line, good backs, good QB coach. I think it'll will happen, and for the better. I also keep having this dream where #90 Peppers is in Pewter, Adams is #98, Miller is wearing #99 and 4 linebackers. 3-4 with Peppers, sounds crazy, but I can see it...oh ya, & no Bates on the sideline. Raheem is HC and DC, the Anti-Chucky.

BucFandango

it'll will, is that an airport?

rednose

the person to look out for is the local guy from lakewood high over in st. pete pat carter. he is a game changer
