Bucs sign S Lynch, CB Hamilton

The Bucs signed two defensive backs to help their depleted secondary.

Tampa Bay signed safety Corey Lynch from the Bengals' practice squad and cornerback Marcus Hamilton, who was released by the Bears.

Hamilton played in one game for the Bucs last season against Chicago. He was released with the intent of re-signing him to the practice squad, but the Bears signed him to their 53-man roster.

The Bucs have issues in the secondary. S Jermaine Phillips was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with a broken thumb and cornerback Elbert Mack has an injured shoulder. S Tanard Jackson has two games remaining on his suspension for violating the substance abuse policy.

Hamilton is a good pickup. He showed some promise...

Kurt

I agree Aaron.

aaron

Corey Lynch?
Remaining free agents (safety):
Dexter Jackson
Lawyer Milloy
Corey Chavous
Dwight Smith

Dont you think these vets could help us out a bit more than Corey Lynch, shoot i think John Lynch probably could help us out more....

aaron

sorry scratch Milloy from that list...

jerseybuc

I hope Corey is a little tougher than our last App St player....

Daisy

I agree with aaron, why not a vet, must be more money, huh!

aaron

oh no App State!!!???? stay away!!!!

Krutch

If anyone watched 'Hard Knocks' on HBO, Lynch was a promising player. He played great in run support, but had some issues in coverage. It could be a good thing or a bad thing, but he reminds me of Sabby. Regardless, he won't be more than a special teams player this year.

The Bucs brass has made it clear they won't sign anyone on the downside of their career this year (with the exception of Leftwich). That's why we didn't go after a veteran.

Hard to believe them when they say this is NOT a rebuilding year.

Brandon

Guys, the point of a youth movement and rebuilding is that a team signs young players to be back-ups, not old vets with no upside wasting space. I'm as or more critical about the idiotic moves this team has been up to, but to add youth for depth instead of aged veterans is a good thing.

For one thing, younger players generally play more and better on special teams, and in essence that is what they are being brought here to do. They are also being brought in to be evaluated and put some tape out there, see if they can develop, and hopefully have a future with the team.

Erick

You may be right, but the secondary needed help BEFORE Phillips went down, so now what is the plan? Why not bring in someone or trade for a good safety to take Phillips spot so there is at least a glimmer of hope for not going 0-16.

Not too mention Phillips may not be here next year.

ceh

wow cory has coverage issues, lol well he will fit in just fine with the rest of secondary who cant cover anyone either.

OAR

Wow, a guy we released after one game(and released by another) and a practice squad guy. Excellent.

Steven

I know OAR, right? I was expecting we'd trade for Cortland Finnegan and/or perhaps Champ Bailey and, oh, I don't know, maybe Ed Reed and Michael Huff. I am SO dissapointed. Haha...

aj

I about marked out when I saw Bucs sign Safety Lynch.

Hate to say it, but the Bucs don't have much interest in competing this year. They seem happy to take their lumps and hope one of these guys pan out.

jjbjeff

The season is over. Schitzophrenic management moves have killed us. When they released Brooks they said their bakup LB's were ready. Hayward, Black, and Hayes are ready! Then moved Flip to WLB? Who are they kidding? We are rebuilding. Very sloooooooooowly. Thanks for the 2-14 season Bucs.
PS: Brooks is still available you idiots!!!!

Valrico Rick

Rebuilding is painful, even if you don't call it that. I'm alright with the process of going youth, but that makes the whole idea of starting Concrete Feet look stupid. Watching Playbook on NFL Network and they gave a perfect example of why he shouldn't be starting, and it had nothing to do with the fact my grandmother moves around better than he does, and she's dead!

WesleyWildcat84

Face it everyone on the short bus, they're not going to go out and evaluate people who have little future with this team.

Aaron, name one of those free agents who is 28 years or younger or could help the Bucs for more than two years tops? There's a reason they're still out there for the teams that aren't evaluating for the long haul.

Erick, we're not trying to avoid 0-16, because any given Sunday, the Giants lose this weekend.

To Jeff, the season isn't over, but the evaluation of 14 more games is alive. Only 2-14? Wow. Derrick Brooks would only be able to help us this year. Oh please, let's sign Derrick Brooks when we could watch him win somewhere else and stay the course here... wow... logic wins again.

Kurt

who cares about a young team if its no good? i want a good team.

aj

Wesley, I agree with you in principle, but Matt McCoy has about as much of a long term NFL future as DB does. The only difference is DB might be able to help you win now.

It's not like the roster is packed with young guys with tons of potential. The defense lacks veteran leadership. Veterans that just might be able to help some of these young guys get better.

I want a good team, too.

willem

I still say we should take a flyer on pacman, put him on short leash 1 year deal, he is NFL ready and a top corner.
People changemaybe pacman did......he he can mentor talib of the field lmao

D Block

I don't know if any of you remember but Dwight Smith had a few issues on and off the field after the Super Bowl. He could be really hot headed at times and could cause more problems then he is worth. I agree with a few others here i would rather see young back ups with the potential to get better and play hard as long as they are good young players. The one good thing about Flip being out is that the coaching staff should know that they are going to have to put up a lot of points to have a chance. The Defense could surprise all of us this wk, but all signs point to us being disapointed.
