WDAE's Dan Sileo suspended after report about Buccaneers ownership

Morning drive-time host Dan Sileo of WDAE-620 AM has been suspended, according to Clear Channel Communications, after his report this morning citing the Glazer family's deep financial concerns and losses.

"Dan Sileo has been suspended pending further investigation into this matter," said Dan Diloreto, president and market manager of Clear Channel Tampa.

The station posted an apology on its Web site: “During a broadcast Thursday … morning host Dan Sileo made some statements about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Glazier (sic) family that were factually incorrect. We sincerely apologize … and hereby issue a full retraction.”

Bucs co-chairman Joel Glazer responded this afternoon with a sternly-worded statement that said, among other things, "This type of behavior. . . will be dealt with in the appropriate manner."

An interesting subplot at work here is WDAE's status as the Buccaneers' flagship station. While the team doesn't have a history of interfering with the station's content, this report called into question the Glazer family's personal finances, something that could negatively impact their business dealings in other arenas. Sileo even alleged members of the Glazer family are considering filing for bankruptcy protection.

For that reason, the organization clearly flexed its muscle. It's not clear how long Sileo will be off the air as Clear Channel representatives would not elaborate beyond the statement.

Dan Sileo, for the most part, is an idiot hack who dreams of someday being an FM "shock jock". I've listened a handful of times and his analysis of sporting news makes me want to drive my car into oncoming traffic.

Listening to the audio clip, however, left me feeling that it was somewhat credible. Looking at it objectively, he was pretty composed while delivering the news. Who knows, maybe it has some validity?

I totally dismissed a lot of what Dan Sileo says because this guy says a lot of BS just to get a reaction. He is shock jock like JC was saying. He is not a credible source of information nor is he knowledgeable in sports when he says Michael Jordan was not a game changer. Huh? The time off might do him so good.

There isn't any truth to it at all! What is wrong with you people? The radio station retracted what he said, not on the basis of bad judgment, but stating that it was in FACT false. This is likely to be a legal action. On top of that the Glazers don't suck. That's stupid. They saved the team from moving, changed the uniforms, built a new stadium at a fraction of what it cost other cities to get new stadiums. They bought you a Super Bowl when they traded draft picks and CASH to Al Davis for Jon Gruden. Now they decide to stop "patching" the team together with free agents and rebuid through the draft, and you say they are the worst kind of anything bad you can think of because you don't like their plan. And even though they did outbid Washington for Haynesworth, and he chose not to come here, you still call them cheap, how stupid can you get? You people are so far off from reality it's lost it's ability to be funny. I'm unhappy with Morris and Dominic, but I stand by the owner's that have been nothing but good for the community of Tampa, and the entire Bay area. You guys act like they are doing something to you, and I would be sure that they continue to have the best interest of the team and this community at heart, no matter how bad you bash them! Clear Channel needs to get rid of Dan, Tampa needs a change. The guy is way into himself and totally dispects most who dare to come on his show. I quit listening to him for that reason. Amazing they would want someone around like this. Shock jock or what ever you think, there are much better radio host out there with FRESH perspective to fill the position. Dan needs to go back to some small station in Miami, maybe he could make something out of himself there. I vote BUC in DAN OUT!! They are both losers but let's keep the one with the most potential.

I fully agree with you Valrico Rick, although cant really comment on the community because I dont live in Tampa.

Ok the Bucs are really bad this season and I didnt see many good things at Wembley on Sunday BUT did anyone really expect anything else this season when they decided it was time to rebuild.

The patched team of golden oldies wasnt getting us any closer to a Superbowl appearance, therefore it was time to start over.

Midnight negotiations are taking place between (CCC[ironic])Clear Channel Communications & The Golden Sp!rm Club(Glazer Boys). CCC will be required to BUY ALL unsold Bucs' Game Tickets and ALL CCC employees and family members will be required to attend all home games. In exchange the GSC will forgo any legal proceedings and 620WDAE will remain as is with it's Buc Coverage. Joel Glazer has also agreed to stop polishing his head before press conferences.
