More shots at Davis' missed votes
Rod Smith's campaign criticized Jim Davis Tuesday, pointing out that Davis missed nearly one-third of all roll call votes this year while sponsoring or co-sponsoring six bills to name of post office, the kind of vote Davis recently implied he was missing when he hasn't shown up for some votes.

Can anyone else say ineffective?

I heard this debate. Rod won with his closing remarks. Incredible!!!

Come on people !
We cannot let Davis win the Primary.
Crist will eat him alive. If you wimps think Rod Smith is too tough on Davis, wait to see what the Republican's do to him!!!
He missed the vote on Homeland Security to have a meeting with his pollster for God's sake !!!

I worry that Jim Davis may be too weak for Crist. It's true.
But Rod Smith is a liar. And has proven himself to be a dirty, unethical campaigner.
And I just can't vote for him. So Davis has my vote on Sept. 5 and my prayers to do better.

davis has my enthusiastic vote. i can't wait to cast it.

These cheap shots make me want to vote for Jim Davis even more!

Ineffective. There, I said said it.
I can also say "Republican" as in "Rod is a Republican."
What's your point?
Posted by: | August 15, 2006 at 05:19 PM
Well Rod has my vote...we talk aboiut Democrats "fighting back" and having a backbone...Rod is the only one to do it against the Republicans!
Crist will eat Davis alive in a debate!

This isn't the act of a strong leader. This is grasping at straws by a man who is desperate his time is almost up. Big difference. Jim will do fine against Crist. Most Floridians will back a man who understands and shares our concern for our children, their education, their future.
Relax, Squatters, it's almost over.

If Davis is going to miss so many votes because he is campaigning for another office, he should resign from Congress. Its just a few months salary anyway, since he won't be returning in January. But then again, he will be out of a job completely by then because he will lose either September 5 or November 7.

8:01 - if he resigned then Jeb would get to appoint the temporary replacement.

The new "spin" on the Rod Squad attacks is even more moronic.
Davis has not missed a single vote that was at all important in real and tangible sense. If he had, Rod would be jumping all over that instead of symbolic legislation that passed with 420+ votes.
Now, Jim has been there for ~65% of the votes, including all the close and important ones. Obviously he is also going to vote on the "post office" bills while he is up there, but he also sponsored legislation against offshore drilling, condemning saudi arabia, promoting alternative water resources, initiating a desalinization tax credit and protecting the elderly.
Those are not nothing bills and it is clear Rod is getting ever more desperate. Rod is the candidate after all that started this race saying he would never launch an attack as it would "help the republicans".

Isn't there more to a Congressperson's job than just casting votes? Aren't they supposed to be there creating coalitions? Isn't fighting the fights in committee part of their job? Sure its tough, but isn't that what Davis was elected, what he pronmised to do when he campaigned for his current job?
When did he lie? Campaign promises or that his presence doesn't matter?

5:09 liar? prove it and then say it to Rod's face. chickensh&t

i am so looking forward to teh debate wednesday night on channel 3 hre in tampa. be sure to call you local pbs channel and request that they show this live as WEDU in Tampa is providing live feed. Every Democratic voter in Florida should have the opportunity to see this.

Maybe Jim would have been smart to introduce a bill in DC allowing the legislators to cast their vote via absentee ballott. Coulda helped hin do his job better.

No, in Florida the Governor does not appoint when there are federal legislative vacancies, or state legislative vacancies either, just vacancies in local offices.
If Davis insists on going AWOL from his job in Congress, whether the votes are significant or not, he has to be man enough to pay the political price. Instead, he says his votes are irrelevent, just as his very presence in Congress seems to be.

Who said he wasn't doing any of his meetings or "coalition building"
Prove he isn't?!?!?

His record, or lack there of, is all the proof in the world that he wasn't building coalitions.
