That 'Liberal' St. Pete Times
Usually it's the recipient of editorial board endorsements who's first to claim bragging rights. But in the Republican primary for governor, it's Tom Gallagher who trotted out a release citing the support of three papers (including you-know-who) for supporting Charlie Crist as further proof of Crist's "liberal" support.
Crist also received the editorial approval of the Palm Beach Post and Daytona Beach News-Journal. Added to his previous endorsement from the left-leaning Sierra Club, Gallagher's campaign says, shows how "liberal endorsements pile up for Crist."

Genius Move !!!

It is not a Genius move. Why would you want to call more attention to you not getting the endorsements.
Posted by: | August 14, 2006 at 11:46 AM
All endorsements that TG would bend a staffer over a car hood for.
Posted by: TG Who? | August 14, 2006 at 11:47 AM
Re the the SP Times' emdorsement, I think TG has a good point. The Times IS liberal. The CC endoresement was backhanded, however. It will probably be ignored by Republicans.

Calling the Times a liberal publication is like calling Disney World a county fair… it just isn’t true.
I thought the Times gubernatorial endorsements were well written and substantiated. I don’t often agree with them, in fact I rarely do… but I say kudos to their call on these races.

GO TG!
Surely you are not surprised ADAM.
Let's see, if you are a Republican would you believe James Dobson or the St. Pete Times, and Palm Beach Post?? hmmmm.... hard decision.
NOT!

Why did Gallagher interview with the paper and seek their endorsement if he thought it was a left-leaning publication that would hurt a "real Republican"?
Newspaper endorsements are HUGE.
Posted by: | August 14, 2006 at 12:24 PM
The endorsements ARE huge for Crist. The rank and file Republicans follow these papers endorsements much more closely than the right-wingers. Crist is definitely closer to the center than Gallagher, so he gets the nod from left of center newspapers. But CC is no liberal, that would be the late great TG before his recent convenient conversion to conservatism. As a lifelong Republican, Charlie Crist is plenty conservative enough for me, and Tom Gallagher is still a jerk, conservative or not.

Has James Dobson read his email?
Maybe then he will see the real Tom Gallagher - trade mission and all.
Better tell Laura and Charlie the rest before someone else does.

The St. Petersburg Times Endorsed John Kerry over George W. Bush “John Kerry is better choice for president (October 17, 2004)
The St. Petersburg Times Endorsed Bill McBride over Jeb Bush “McBride for governor: Bill McBride is as experienced and accomplished as any Floridian in providing progressive civic leadership… The Times recommends Bill McBride for governor.” (October 20, 2002)
The St. Petersburg Times Endorsed Al Gore over George W. Bush “Gore for president:…Superior depth, experience and policy priorities make the vice president the best choice to carry forward the achievements of the past eight years...The Times recommends Vice President Al Gore for president,” (October 29, 2000)
The St. Petersburg Times Endorsed Buddy McKay over Jeb Bush "MacKay for governor: …political candidates should be judged not just according to the quality of their campaigns but also according to the quality of their lives. By that measure, Buddy MacKay's qualifications are not just superior to Jeb Bush's; they are exemplary…(October 24, 1998)
NEWSPAPER ENDORSEMENTS ARE HUGE INDEED...

Newspaper endorsements are worthless!
Last year the Miami Herald Endorsed Roberto Casas over Julio Robaina for Mayor.
Julio Robaina won 60% of the vote. While Roberto Casas only won 25%
Posted by: | August 14, 2006 at 01:05 PM
Um, yeah. TG - do not call attention to yourself. You have no chance. Crist is now piling on the endorsements because everyone is jummping on the train - afraid to be left behind. Bye bye - MM - maybe you won't be such a snob in Tally anymore...

Liberals like the NRA and Marian Hammer, Allen Bense, the Florida Medical Association, Mel Martinez, the Florida Home Builders, all major law enforcement groups, 28 Sheriffs, the Florida Restaurant Association, Connie Mack, Jeff Miller.
Gallagher begs for an endorsement and loses it and now he cries like a little girl.
Greatest team ever assmebled!

Great post. Looks like the Times has a great track record of picking "losers" in past Presidential and Gubernatorial elections.
Let's hope the same holds true this time!
Everyone in the state of Florida knows the St. Pete Crist Times and Palm Beach Post are the two most liberal newspapers in the state.
Where's Bill O'Reilly when you need him?
If anything, the Times endorsement of CC coupled with Dobson's support of TG should just about seal the deal in favor of Gallagher.
Posted by: terminator | August 14, 2006 at 02:42 PM
Terminator, I agree with you call on 12:37’s post. It is a great post. With a declining circulation, many actually use the Times endorsements as a key to guide who they will not vote for.
But the Times a “Liberal” publication? I think not. With Adam Smith and the like, the only thing missing is red ink.

The Gallagher Romper Room Kids are at it again. Guess they forgot to mention that TG himself interviewed with at least some of these News Papers Ed Boards seeking their endorsement!. Just watch the debate tape again, its right after TG throws a tantrum about not having a fan, he states he interviewed with the Palm Beach Post and Sentinel Ed Board. Stop whining TG, its past PATHETIC!!!

lets see what Jeb had to say about Tax and spend TG in 94..Tommmy more LIBERAL than the Dems!!! PRICELESS!!!
---------------------------
Gallagher has favored the largest tax increase in Florida history, a 1-Cent Sales Tax Increase ($1.7 Billion a Year).
“ Jeb Bush, a Republican candidate for governor, called Gallagher's plan “ill-conceived” and said Florida did not need to raise taxes to fight crime. People can't afford the government we have now," Bush said. "He is making (Gov.) Lawton Chiles look like he's conservative.
------------------------
TG the disaster that keeps on giving :). Now this one is going to make our blogg nation laugh off our chairs!! with absloute amazement!!!. Lets see how TG the disaster attacked Jeb in 94. Don't miss Mr. Ethics Scandal TG!! accusing jeb of lack of Ethics. THIS IS PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-----------------------------
When Tom Gallagher opposed Jeb Bush for Governor, here is what he said about Jeb Bush:
“Jeb Bush is "rich in money and pedigree, but not qualifications."
''Maybe Jeb Bush doesn't think the quality of his business experience and ethical behavior is important. I do,'' Gallagher said.

Agreed.
I hope Adam isn't one of Charlie's "boys"?
Posted by: terminator | August 14, 2006 at 02:57 PM
CV:
Didn't Charlie advocate a penny a pound tax on sugar a few years back?
And didn't he support McKay's plan to repeal various sales tax exemptions?
BUSTED CV!

my office bookkeeper - who knows 0 about politics - said to me today: "I have no idea who I should vote for Governor. I don't know much about any of them, except that I shouldn't vote for Gallagher."
When I inquired as to her Gallagher disdain, her answer was simply "he's the unethical one."
Folks, THAT is your "undecided voter" and THAT is what "average" Floridians perceive today.

speaking of MM being such a snob around Tally (boo hoo Mallory)...what ever happened to the other half of that ill-fated brain trust - Todd Reid?

Your office bookeeper will not vote! Just like college students and so many others will not vote. You are wasting your time doing "push polls" on those folks.
The real "undecided voters" are on the Republican and Democratic super voter lists. They have to be die hard primary voters in order to count as an "undecided voters" in this primary.
Those super primary voters will investigate for themselves, they will make an informed vote, but it is true that at this late date there is still a large percentage that have not decided.
That is why Dr. James Dobson's endorsement of Tom Gallagher and the liberal media endorsing Charlie Crist will be very helpful for those die-hard super Republican primary voters.

Official statement:
"I bring forth more good news.
The campaign is progressing as we have planned. The coffers have reached their highest point yet after receiving another 225 bills.
Last week we escaped two national endorsements. In the same manner, over the weekend, we successfully avoided the endorsements of two regional pamphleteers.
We did not sit with them for negotiations as other infidels did. Instead, we decided to fire upon their barrels of ink.
We have only just begun to fight."
Posted by: baghdad brett | August 14, 2006 at 04:48 PM
how will those conservative supervoters reconcile the Dobson endorsement for a man that cheated on his wife and faces ethics violation charges?
Posted by: | August 14, 2006 at 04:50 PM
and how will conservative supervoters pick someone other than the NRA candidate?
Posted by: | August 14, 2006 at 04:52 PM
Tom Gallagher has become something that we should not vote for.
Sad, but true.

We conservatives love a story with a happy ending! Gallagher may be the young man that sowed his wild oats who has now become a better wiser man. He is an excample of a worldly man seeing the error of his ways, asking forvigeness and setting out on the higher road.
Tom Gallagher is no choir boy but he is far better than CharlaTAN Charlie!
We Christians are not perfect, just forgiven!
