Crist, Anticipating Victory
Charlie Crist started the last day of the primary campaign Monday with a pancake breakfast at a Fraternal Order of Police lodge in Jacksonville. Among the familiar faces in the crowd of 100 or so were former state Sen. Jim Horne of Orange Park, former Rep. Joe Arnall of Jacksonville Beach, and John Falconetti, a long-time Crist supporter who runs a Jacksonville printing business. It was the first event of a busy, five-city fly around that will end at the Orange Bowl in Miami, where FSU will play Miami.
Sensing an inevitable victory Tuesday, Crist can't resist the football analogies. "I learned as a quarterback a long, long time ago, you got to keep your eye on the goal," Crist said. "Run for daylight. Get in."
Then he got in a rare dig at his opponent, Tom Gallagher. Crist likes to drop names of friends in speeches (as in " ... education is important. Right, Joe?") At the FOP lodge, Crist said: "Where's Tom? I don't mean my opponent. I become less concerned about that every day."
Crist ended his breakfast speech with a prediction. "It will be a glorious victory," he said.

Now Charlie:
Don't be angry with Tom.
You know politics is a tuff business.
You did the same kind of things yourself to TG.
Now it's you in the bind.
What do you want to do? Take your Football and go home?

A little cocky, are we charlie?
Posted by: | September 04, 2006 at 11:25 AM
Charlie. I am a staunch Republican and I will NEVER vote for you!
Posted by: | September 04, 2006 at 11:25 AM
11:25- A 'staunch Republican' would vote for the Party's nominee. You are not a real Republican, and we don't want or need your vote. Go away and vote for Jim Davis.
Posted by: | September 04, 2006 at 11:31 AM
Exactly! Any Gallagher supporter that says they're voting for a Dem or nobody over Charlie should be blackballed out of the Party.
Posted by: | September 04, 2006 at 11:59 AM
Charlie is a DEM though.

11:31... Maybe the principles behind conservatism mean more to me than letting the team win and weakening the team longterm.
Posted by: | September 04, 2006 at 12:03 PM
11:25 - for you it is about power; for me ideas.

Posted by: frank | September 04, 2006 at 12:05 PM
Charlie, I am a staunch Republican and I HAVE ALREADY VOTED FOR YOU!
Posted by: | September 04, 2006 at 12:12 PM
No staunch Conservative would vote for CC, only Republican hacks.
Posted by: | September 04, 2006 at 12:15 PM
12:15
Not all republicans vote solely on 'who is the absolutely most social conservative.' It is about the best candidate, and Gallagher has many flaws. Charlie is not perfect, but Gallagher has transformed himself too many times over the years. Crist has been mostly the same.
Plus I vote on economic issues, and strong on crime. Only about 30% of republicans, and possibly less, vote on social issues alone.
I am a staunch republican (and evangelical christian), in that i would almost never vote for a democrat, but i am also moderate socially, b/c mainstream america rightfully (although they take it farther than needed) has a problem with the far christian right who simply want to dictate their moral beliefs to everyone.

11:31 If you so alienate enough good Republicans, even if your boy CC steals the primary she will never win the general.

Crist decries release to media of 1989 paternity case papers
By John Kennedy
Tallahassee Bureau
September 4, 2006
JACKSONVILLE * Republican Charlie Crist on Sunday condemned the release to news organizations of confidential court papers showing that he denied being the father of a child born in 1989.
"It's sad. The most scurrilous thing I've heard of in Florida politics," Crist said about the documents e-mailed to news organizations Saturday, three days before Tuesday's Republican primary for governor.
The campaign acknowledged the documents, including a consent form signed by Crist allowing the baby girl's adoption, appear to be accurate. They showed that in 1989 he was identified as a child's father by a woman whom Crist said he never had sex with and only vaguely knew socially.
Crist said he signed the consent form waiving all parental rights merely to avoid delaying or blocking the child's planned adoption. Those familiar with adoption cases acknowledge that courts seek consent forms from a man the mother identifies as a child's father to avoid any future claims.
Crist was not yet an elected official at the time.
The four pages of documents from the Pinellas County Circuit Court generally support Crist's account of the case. The papers were included in an e-mail to dozens of Florida news organizations late Saturday under the name David Smith of Floridians for Truth. Neither Smith nor the group could be further identified or reached.
Crist's leading rival in Tuesday's primary, Tom Gallagher, denied any involvement.
Gallagher, who polls show is trailing Crist by as much as 30 percentage points, earlier this summer held a conference call with reporters after documents from his 1979 divorce were distributed to several news organizations. In the call, Gallagher said an extramarital affair contributed to the breakup.
"Tom has gone through these sorts of attacks on his integrity and character questions before and wouldn't wish this on anyone, lest a fellow Republican," said Alberto Martinez, a Gallagher spokesman.
The 17-year-old documents involving Crist include an affidavit from a St. Petersburg woman who identified him as the father of her baby girl born June 23, 1989.
That document acknowledges that no court had established Crist as the child's father and also states that he denies parenthood.
An affidavit by Crist dated May 2, 1989, apparently prepared for the woman's lawyer, Michael B. Brown, states, "Parenthood by myself is not possible as I never consummated the act necessary for parenthood with Mr. Brown's client."
The affidavit also includes a handwritten note from Crist at the bottom: "Mike, This should make clear the adoptive process, Thanks, Charlie."
The documents show that the woman, whom the South Florida Sun-Sentinel is not identifying because neither she nor her then-attorney could be reached, was married at the time. But in her affidavit, she acknowledged she was living apart from her husband when the child was conceived and that he was not the child's father.
Copies of St. Petersburg police reports provided by the Crist campaign show that police were twice called to the woman's home, in 1989 and 1993, after she threatened suicide. After the first incident, doctors required her to receive psychological treatment, the report shows.
Asked Sunday if he was comfortable with the actions he took at the time, Crist said, "Absolutely."
Asked why he signed the consent form, apparently without seeking legal advice, Crist said, "I'd done nothing wrong. A person doesn't seek legal advice when [he] did nothing wrong."
Mark Hollis of the Tallahassee bureau contributed to this report.

1:19-- You're not a good Republican if you don't support the party's nominee.
Posted by: | September 04, 2006 at 02:42 PM
Crist will win easily.
Nice try, Gallagher goons!
Posted by: | September 04, 2006 at 03:23 PM
Jeb voted for Gallagher.
Posted by: | September 04, 2006 at 03:29 PM
And you would know that because why?
Thats what i thought. You do not know who Jeb is picking. And it doesnt matter, the people will decide.

Crist is an irresponsible goon. He didn't even care if the child WAS is, he couldn't even be bothered with a DNA test. He just signed the baby away... like so much garbage. Is this how "pro-life Charlie is?
Posted by: | September 04, 2006 at 09:00 PM
If Crist thought the baby could have been his, and knowing that she wanted to give the baby up for adoption, so he would not have to deal with it, he would have simply said the baby was likely his and signed away the papers, so the parents could adopt it.
Anyone with a sound mind could reason that argument out. There is no reason to deny having sex with someone who is pregnant if they are giving up the baby for adoption.

Oh yes, the ole 1989 DNA paternity test...

Hey termie, get off the computer and go shave that cheesy excuse for a mustache off your "I don't give a damn about the children, it's all about the union" face.

The one person who loves "C" the most, and supports his career as if it were his own, only he can't because the general public is not ready for THAT much open-mindness, is someone only his closest associates know about. "B" has had to live in the shadows since "C" set up house high on the hill. He didn't mind, though, because he truly loves "C" and would do anything in the world for him, including remaining invisible. It's really sad because "B" is wonderful, caring and compassionate. "B" knew going in (it's going on a couple of years now) that his association with such a high-profle figure would be hard, but everything is a whole lot easier when your in love. THAT'S how much he loves him. Step on out of there, Charlie and the you-know-who votes will no doubt be yours! You've got mine! "B" knows the truth about the "woman", and knows you need that as a serious "prop" for his gain, and is "okay" with it because you are loyal to "B", which says a lot about you, (FL needs that kind of loyalty!!) but it hurts him to know that their are people out there who don't know it's just a "prop" and his heart is truly hurting because of it. Just please be kind to "B", he's hurting right now. Good luck C. And the next time the GP says some crap about you not having a wife or kids and saying that its a problem, just ignore them!

Here we go again....Proof please!

As a life long democrat that is willing to give the other side a chance, I have to say that when Crist first started his campaign, I was very impressed. I thought " now heres a Rep. that I could support"! And then the Mud Slinging started and all respect was lost. There's something wrong with a candidate that will go to any means to win. Davis gets my vote as an honest man(which we really need after all the Republicans mis-deeds).
