Friends in Low Places
Will Weatherford of Land O'Lakes will run this fall for the spot vacated by Rep. Ken Littlefield, R-Wesley Chapel, (who is off to the Public Service Commission) to represent parts of Pasco and Hillsborough counties.
Weatherford, a Republican, spent the past three years working as an aide for Speaker of the House Allan Bense. He also married Bense's daughter Courtney this summer. His brother is Drew Weatherford, quarterback for Florida State University. Will Weatherford was among 77 House staffers who got some $300,000 in sweet bonuses after the session; Weatherford got $5,000 from his boss and now father-in-law.
Weatherford will run against Zephyrhills Democrat Donovan Brown, an insurance agent and political newcomer.
Brown and Weatherford are both young'ns at 26.

Here comes the youth movement

Will seems like a solid young man.
Good luck.

Will is 'charmed' for sure...

He will win the seat because Littlefield's name will be on the ballot, rather than his own.
Littlefield resigned just a tad too late to allow the Supervisor of Elections to change the names on official ballots.

he would win on his own too - The Weatherford family is respected there, and anyone who's met Will knows he is a good person.

Will is a class act and will immediately be a contender for speaker in his class. Members and staff like his affable personality and having his father inlaw as the next party chairman won't hurt either.

Will is a great young man. I think he will make a great member of the Florida House.
He is a good Christian man and I am happy to hear this news.
I have known his family for years and I can honestly say the Weatherford clan are some of the best in the state.
This Gator says go Will go!

I've lived in Pasco County for 4 years, and have never heard of the family, or the young man. Since Pasco's population has grown so much, I'm sure others are like me, and do not know of him.
It’s great that he is a nice young man, a good christian, and a class act from a good family. However, lots of young men and women right out of college fit this description.
Regardless of all of these seemingly engaging personal qualities, most people are not going to know much about whom they are voting for, or have had a chance to evaluate him as a candidate or his qualifications.
On a side note, it’s interesting that Republican leadership picked someone who is not really currently involved in local politics.

I think Will is a great guy, but crap like this is going to bring our Party into the dumper. At the very least, this reeks of nepotism and i'm disappointed if our next Party chairman will continue to make bad moves like this. Are you kidding me that there's talk of Will becoming speaker. I'm not happy.

Oh, and whatshisname down in Lee, Aubuchon, what's going on with this district. Do all that serve have to wear the 70's porn star stach?

While one would have to admit that being Speaker Bense's son in law helped Will get the position, having met Will several times you can see that he is unquestionably qualified and will be a fast contender for leadership. He's extremely articulate and knowledgeable on the issues. I think it's great for the party and great for the House! Good Luck Will!!!
